Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **
Hey all,
I've been reading this site for a while now, waiting to post or start my own thread, but I'm thinking it's time to actually post something, so I guess I'll do an introduction post!
I have little-to-no prop building experience. When I was a kid I would make my own "prop replicas" from cardboard and such, but as an adult I've never really been very good at modeling. But it's something I've WANTED to be really good at. LEGO just aint cutting it anymore.
So I found this site while on my current unemployment stint. I work in the animation industry which, every once in a while, gives you a small vacation between contracts. It's during these breaks that I get restless and start creating different projects to keep me busy. I like to consider myself creative, if not at the level I'd like to be.
So long story short, I was wandering around the internets when I came across the blog of a guy building a replica lightsaber. Lukes ANH lightsaber. After reading the step by step, I became obsessed with making one of my own. And my new hobby was created.
My continuing search for "building lightsabers" brought me to here. I have read thread after thread on builds, and I THINK I've learned a lot. I'm ready to get going. I'm hoping the enthusiasm for saber builds hasn't died down here... that I'm not too late to the game. I have a plan on what ones I want to make, and in what order.
Where this "prop building" hobby goes from there, I'm looking forward to finding out.
I also am shooting some short films this summer that will require Batman style cowl and armour builds... Not Batman fan films or anything, but a similair look to the suit. I've seen some really talented people on this site that I'm looking forward to getting some input and guidance from.
So my first project will be the ANH Vader lightsaber with a Heiliand flash (no mpp flash...). I've never even seen an old school camera flash in person, so this will be my test run... get a feel for it.
I have the heiland flash on it's way, and I'm just waiting for that call from work that my next contract is officially set... The sad thing about this new unemployment hobby is that it actually costs a lot of money.
Anyway, that's my story. I look forward to chatting with all you creative folk out there.
