Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Howdy, Folks.

I'm Drakarta, I also go by Beekay on some other websites and such.

What brought me here was the numerous threads about Ash's chainsaw from Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness. I bought the proper base saw on ebay yesterday and will be doing that build as soon as it gets here, some time in the middle of the month.

That's about it.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi all, My name is StJohn, I live in England and have been an avid model builder since my formative years, 4 decades and change. I got into model engineering and now have a small workshop comprising a Peatol Mill {That's Taig for non-UK persons :) } And two lathes, a micro-lathe from yes you guessed it Peatol again and a larger lathe from China.

I have built two sonic screwdrivers and am in the process of making the third one. The first is a replica of the Jon Pertwee/Tom Baker screwdriver and is made mostly of aluminium with a little steel and casting resin thrown in for good measure.

The second was completed recently, a derivative of the Teletran style screwdriver similar to GreatWazoo42's sonic. For anyone that is interested there is a build diary on the TardisBuilders website in the workshop area for the Teletran screwdriver along with the rough design drawings for the current one a Matt Smith derivative. The drawings for this have been subject to several revisions, and these changes are ongoing.

If I am allowed to I will start a thread for the new build and upload some pics, new and old.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello all (or y'all as I'm currently living in New Orleans)
I came here is search of some info on a VERY easy prop, but hopefully I'll be getting into more complicated things here soon.
I'm a Material Science Engineer working on pressurized vessels and systems at Stennis Space Center. Mostly LOx and LH. I expect that once people get to know me I will get A LOT of questions about different materials. I welcome those questions, I really love helping people make things. You could call it my passion. Simply keep in mind that while I know a lot about a lot of different materials, and especially about the science behind the materials. I don't know everything, and when it comes to commercial materials it can be kind of tricky because they are intentionally secretive about the ingredients.
If you want to know more about me check out my blog TJSOA.CO Tjanderson’s Weblog | Just another WordPress.com weblog (tjsoa short for TJSonOfAnder which is my handle almost everywhere I go as my name is TJ Anderson) on my blog I have links to my twitter, fb, etc. so feel free to say hi.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi all,

First off let me say how amazed and impressed that I’ve been at the quality of work that I’ve seen in my very short time here. Inspirational doesn’t really cover it.

I found this forum when looking for ideas for a Captain America shield. Originally my plan had been to pick up a cheap costume shield, repaint it and hang it on my office wall. About 15 seconds after finding this forum that was no longer the case.

One of the first threads that I found was Valor’s “budget” shield and I was pretty much lost right then and there.

One thing lead to another and now I’m about to start a new work in progress thread for my Captain America costume and props.

You people are a terrible influence. *chuckle*

I've done a lot of historical re-enactment costuming in the past (mostly for working Renaissance Fairs and Cowboy Action Shooting) but I’ve not dipped my toes in this particular pool before. So far it’s been a blast.

Hi everyone Matt here,

I have been sitting back checking this place out. I'm a member of the FX sabers forum. I like all weapon props, i'm into The Legend of Zelda series. Feel free to PM if anyone out there wants to build a master sword, you may have a potential customer.

Hi everyone. Newbie from Queensland, Australia. I came across the forum after searching for some info on some basic casting info. After realising just what can be done "at home", I thought I might stick around and draw on the communities wisdom and experience, and hopefully be able to contribute back!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey all,

Found out about this site while looking for costume ideas for my Jeepers Creepers Cosume. I started collecting silicone masks last year and things have evolved really quickly with it. I'm in the process of starting a hair punching service for silicone masks. I have some more coming in next week for my collection, with a few side jobs coming in as well. I have a folder on my facebook page that shows what I've done so far. But yeah, here looking for costume ideas and checking out some people's amazing work they've done!

Hi All,

Newbie from Sheffield, England.

A film maker rather than a prop maker, vaguely on the look out for collaborators, who can make unique and original props and costumes, rather than replicas. So I could well be in the wrong place... but even if I am, I'm enjoying exploring and looking at everybody's work :)

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi all, I'm Mike. Ive been looking into making an Iron man costume and stumbled accross the site. I live in Cornwall, UK and have some experience of making costumes (A homemade Optimus Prime and a Latex Batman suit which I've attached) I've never used pepakura before but I'm going to make a start on MK7 Iron Man suit. Just can't decide whether to go with foam or the resin / filler finish (depends on cost really!) I have the pep files and now just need to find the best one for the helmet. I look forward to posting some progress pics!

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello,
My name is Jaye and I have recently started a custom prop, set, and costume fabrication studio. We usually don't deal with replicas but after looking around on this forum for a while I decided it is a community I would like to be a part of. In our down time we make lots of props from scraps left around the shop, perhaps we will start throwing together some replicas. Let me know if there is something you would like to see built!

I'll be 55 in a couple of days, and live in the middle of no where. I'm a big Klingon fan, and I'm currently working a small Klingon Squadron to join the KAG fleet yards, luckily I have a friend in the modeling business. I build everything from Sci-Fi to World War 2 armor. I also have a TOS costume that I ware to conventions. I have a Next Gen Disruptor. But since quiety a few of our ship members are TOS we've started working on the original series Distruptors.

Hey everyone! I stumbled across this website while looking up Mass Effect weapons builds which quickly led me here. A very, very happy accident. The community here is so friendly and helpful. I'm happy to be here; my wallet.... is happy but has a feeling it will be quickly depleting due to the insane talent on this website. I love prop making, I'm fairly new to it, I've done a few builds to go along with costume commissions and my friends who wanted a prop they couldn't find/afford. I am much more versed in costume making, but prop making has definitely become my favorite pastime over the past few months. I'm working on a lot of Mass Effect weapons and a helmet right now for a cosplay group that I am a part of. All of the tips and tricks everyone has, has been really helpful, I've already learned a lot of different techniques I wouldn't have thought of otherwise. This place is awesome.

Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey all,
I'm Ted. I found out about this forum at Balticon in Hunt Valley MD this year. I'm a newbie at this craft but would like to learn. I did build Edward Elric's automail arm from Fullmetal Alchemist but because it was my first time and I was rushed, there were issues. Anyway, after seeing the Avengers I decided I want to build the Iron Man Mark VII. I'm sure there are probably a million other people that want to do this same thing but oh well. I know I really don't have any experience but I am willing to learn from the best. From talking to a professional costumer at Balticon I think I want to start out with craft foam pieces and coat them with resin and then paint. I am planning on making a body cast first out of paper tape. However any advice on where to go next would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for welcoming me to your community and I look forward to what I can learn.

Ted
