Hello from Tulsa Oklahoma, I have been into papermodels for about four years now and I am always looking to build props out of paper and I have been lurking at this site for some time now and decided to take the plunge and join, I hope there are things I can learn here and maybe download some new props to build along the way...

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

I didn't see this thread earlier and posted an information blurb somewhere else. Sure hope that counts toward my 20! :lol

Anyway, I build functional replicas of the underwater technologies seen in Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Not selling anything, but if you are into Leagues you might enjoy seeing my website.

Thank you all for the open arms greetings and the massive show of comradery I have already experienced here! The things you members are building are an inspiration!

Hello RPF!

I am an amateur freelance Theatrical Prop builder from Winnipeg Canada. I have recently started to use my Prop skills to make myself and my friends cool movie replicas.
I'm still new at this, and so far RPF seems like a great place to learn new tricks and get feedback on my own projects. The few posts I've already made, and the exploring I have done thus far seem to be confirming this hunch.

Can't wait for more!

Ali

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Greetings folks!

I'm Gala and while I've been lurking on this forum for a good 2 years, I've finally decided to get more active. Been in love with costumes ever since I was a kiddo but only started to get serious in around 2008, and after working with Disney for the last year things went a tad bananas from there. I've been a Rebel Legion member since 2009 and done the Superhero stuff since 2010.

Currently working on a Rule 63 (meaning "female version") Loki inspired by The Avengers. The progress thread can be found HERE so hop on over for some fun... the kind that bleeds the bank and makes you pull out your hair! ;)

Oh, and I'm a MA film/cinema student at NYU: Tisch so obviously film and the like = my passion.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi All,

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and inspiration. I've wanted to build Stormtrooper Armor for years, but cost was always a factor. Thanks in large part to Stealth (and JoWe, and XRobots, and many, many more) I feel as though I can finally try an Armor Build on the cheap.

So, I know there are already sooooooo many Iron Man build threads, but my plan is t build one myself. A Mark VI...

As for experience I have ZERO. I actually had to go out and buy a hot glue gun. I wasn't even allowed to build models as a kid because my Mom thought it was too messy. Well, thanks to the Hero Tutorials, and hundreds of amazing posts on this site, the 405th.com, and the 501st sites I am on my way...

Thanks again for helping a true NEWB learn a cool new hobby!

Hey all,

Kwando checking in from Melbourne, Australia.

It's been a while since I've made a costume. My first was a pepakura Masterchief for a Halloween party in 09. Had a great time making it. No photos as they're all on my home computer unfortunately.

Am interested in the latest Mark 7 Iron Man builds and 3D printing. Hoping to combine the two sometime down the road.

Some of the work that's being presented here is amazing and inspiring. Looking forward to being part of the community.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello everyone!

I'm Aki from the Philippines. I'm fairly new to prop making and so I don't have anything to show but my Iron man Mk VI WIP. I've picked up sculpting last year and done a couple of pieces too. I started my IM build last Feb, went on a 2month hiatus and continued it earlier this month. Then I finally got the courage to post here! I know I'll be enjoying my stay here...for I know it'll be quite a long journey for me. Please visit my thread and don't hesitate to leave a comment. Let's keep building!

:cheers

Hello all, im Terran in Virginia. Im a big BIG aliens fan. I made a full blown USCM set of armor back in highschool, but now 13 years later I plan to revisit the project and make improvements wherever possible.

Just finished my first Pulse build and its time to dive back into the armor. After a few weeks of lurking figured Id finally post.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello,
I am Sasha currently living in Chicago. I've been going to Dragon*Con for 10 years now and have been making costumes pretty much all my life. I usually do more in the way of sewing, but I do make a fair amount of props. I tend to use materials I find around or can get really cheap, then spend a ton of time and effort, wear the costume once, then cannibalize it for another costume. It's a bad habit, I know.
I have been making foam armor and coating it in plastidip spray for years and I now feel fairly proud that I figured this out on my own and now I see it's a popular method. Makes me feel like I'm doing something right. Here's my first armor:

If I had to do it over, I'd use better paint and sealer, but I think it still looks pretty cool for a first attempt.

I'm currently working on some wings, making each feather out of satin because finding real black feathers that have that nice glossy shine is expensive and the satin actually looks great.

This was the first version, but the form was made of wire and paper and it would be hard to pack and breakable and would require me to make the costumes around the wings with hidden fastenings, which seems like too much effort, so I abandoned them after I finished the outside. Now, with wings 2.0 I have made the form out of foam and made them attach via magnets. The plus side is now I can wear them with anything and now they are able to be bent or squished without any real damage. Just don't let it near your cell phone. The down side is that I was not able to harvest any of the feathers off the old wings, so I've had to make a whole new set. I am fray checking all the new feathers, too, which was another problem with wings 1.0.

Anyways, long intro is long. Hopefully I will be fairly active on this forum, but I doubt I'll do much more than lurk.

Hi, I'm John. Just started work on a new prop project. Should be pretty cool when I'm done.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello all! I've been lurking around here for a little while, but finally got around to joining. I have been costuming for a couple of years now, and I am a member at the BOTB, SCF, and LOH where I have seem some incredible work from members here. Now that my Batman suit is finished (well, until I make the next upgrade!) I want to try my hand at making some props/helmets, and what better place to come. I am actually planning to sculpt a classic Antman helmet using a hodge-podge of pepakura files I have stumbled across here. My hope is to get started in a week or two, as I have my paper files in hand, and I have the resin and cloth ready to go! I may try my hand at something else before digging into an all original sculpt, so I will post as I go. Looking forward to being a member here, and thank you in advance for all of your help.

Bill
