Nerf Gun Props? YES!

After (like many others) being inspired by the fantastic work earlier on in this thread, especially by Johnson Arms, I've started painting my Nerf guns. This is my favourite so far. A Roughcut painted to have a wooden body.

That is one of the nicest 'wood' paint jobs I have seen, it completely transforms the Roughcut, really awesome.
You should do a mini tutorial on your wood effect, I'm sure folks would appreciate it.

+1 WOW for ^this^ "woodwork". TRULY amazing results. Any chance you'd be willing to do a tutorial on the process?

Thanks for all the appreciation for my roughcut. I'd like to say that I had my own special way of doing it, but I actually just copied this Youtube video from Hypercats:

https://youtu.be/CuXPUwZGIUo

The only thing I changed from what they did is that they said they used latex paint. I couldn't find any of that so I just got a tester pot of eggshell coloured paint and used that. I'd looked at other videos to create the wood effect but this works brilliantly.

This is a simple paint job presently. Just some Ultra Flat black and silver weathering. But I like how it looks. I do plan to add some muted colors to it.

Thanks for the pointer to the Youtube vid AWTB, it will be most useful. However even with the videos help you still made a great job of the Roughcut paintjob yourself.
I've seen so many other folks try 'wood' painjobs on models and most look pretty "mehh", your one really looks like wood, I love it.

Here are 3 more pics of a Nerf Magnus I've been playing with. A silver body sprayed over with metallic blue and then highlighted (although the highlights don't really show through here). I'll put up more at a later date.

After seeing all this great stuff I thought I'd share some of my paint jobs. They're not too complex. Black with colored accents mostly. But I like the way the Steampunk Maverick turned out.

I got the weathered effect just by dry brushing silver paint across the gun from top to bottom and then left to right. Simple as that really. I just made sure that there was more dry brushing on the outline edges of the gun (if that makes sense).

More pics from me this time of my Nerf Barricade. Some serious drybrushing was needed on the pistol grip. Same with the red body. Barricades are so much bigger than even a Magnus.

Saw this thread and raided my son's room for any Nerf guns he wasn't using anymore. Found this old Buzz Bee Tek 3 and figured if I ruined it, I'd be doing him a favor anyway. It was always a pretty crappy gun.... TILL NOW.

Great thread. Gave me a lot of inspiration. :thumbsup

Sneaking in one last minute random parts mod before I deconstruct my old work shed to make space for a much needed larger one.

I was sorting a few things out and I put some stuff in a pile to go in my plastic bits n bobs bin. Found some more stuff in the house that hadn't made it to the shed and found one of my Nerf guns tagged for modding (kids had borrowed it).

I looked at the pile again once everything was in the shed, looked at the gun in my hand and suddenly had the idea for this:

Going to lose the huge barrel on the front end for something a little more realistic. The spikes/neadles I'm thinking could be lit up (green or blue) as there's loads of room for stuff in the bottle up front which I can fill in with expanding foam to firm up later on. Don't think it'll be a functional Nerf gun though.

Just made some P90 rails and a ring sight for a Rayven. Using black and white plastic suits the elite colors. I have removed the Nerf marking in preparation for a repaint if the temperature and humidity cooperate.

Edit: Haven't put the lenses in the sight yet. Will do that after the repaint.

I don't remember if I ever posted a completed photo of this build. I was going for a killzone kind of vibe on this one. It was a lot of fun.

A little side by side of where it started.
