My Reach Spartan Armor WIP

looking for advice on building an AR, the reach AR to be exact...
The suit is moving along faster than I'd anticipated which means I will have time to make a suitable weapon. The magnum I pepped did come out awesome, but I need something bigger, so I'm going to attempt a scratch build of the AR. Not that the available files aren't awesome, I just want to challenge myself to make something my own. I have plenty of reference pics, and am quite confident that I can make a pretty badass replica, I just don't know what to make the brunt of it from. I plan on making one solid frame piece, than layering out the details with foam. Pvc pipe for the barrel. I don't want to use cardboard, trying to keep the bondo'ing to a minimum. I was thinking wood, but I don't really have the resources to cut it. Any suggestions?

Ever thought if EPS? Its car able and easy to get a good product with practice. Doc Daily and Andrew Cook have used it to create a lot of good props with it and I'm starting yo work with itself.

I wouldn't say you should start a LARP with them, but it is paintable (I think...) though you need to coat it with something (not quite sure, still moving forward with it). You will REALLY want to check out Cook's videos on it, heck, the guy made a binary rifle XD

I use the auto primer all the time the only thing I can think of is there was something on the foam that made it crack. Did u seal it before primer? Oh and do u have a Facebook?

daninboo- yeah, I always do two heavy coats of plasti-dip before primer...I'm not worried about it anymore, i actually like the way it came out, actually a neat textural element...

Glad to see more progress on this (as always) man, I'm really starting to envy your foam skills. How many projects/builds have you done previous to this?

Well, I put on everything I have so far and wore it around the house for about 30 minutes. I feel like I just stepped out of a sauna. Holy crap, how do you wear these things for a day??!! Needless to say, fans just got added to my to-do list. I'm thinking two in the front and two in the back (in the shoulder bells), seems like plenty of room to do so, with one central switch in the front. I'll probably just get the fans at the dollar store and take them apart, hold the motors in place with popsicle sticks inside the suit.
Anyway, I just reinforced the torso with 40 (literally) hot glue sticks, might be overkill, but its still ultra lightweight and I want it to hold up. I'm getting really excited to strut this thing around... :)

I'm so amazed that this is only your first build (you put my ingenuity to shame :( ). I hope to one day get my N6 all together (worked a bit on it yesterday) and electronics (from what you've described) are going to be necisary for me as well... though... I have no clue with small electronics :( (I'll be watching how you do those as well :D :p ).

I'm probably just going to rewire led flashlights and dollar store personal fans to a single switch...I don't know anything about electonics either, but I think I can handle that...

AAnd by the way, I'm only posting the good stuff...I go through a lot of trial and error, so stop knocking your own work :)

Unfortunately, I can't paint or spray anything for a few weeks until we move into our new place, but I will at least get everything built by then. Nothing new to post yet, its been a busy week. I'll be back at it tonight...
