Mike Mignola comics Hellboy costume.

Hey whatsup everyone! Reviving this thread to show Mark II of this costume being made for asavge. Finished up the RHoD fabrication today.

I'm a massive fan of Mignola's art and this looks amazing, I started working on a hellboy costume a few months ago and was heading in a movie/comic hybrid direction, but seeing this you've inspired me to base it completely off the comic (fortunately I won't have to change much).

Anyway great work! I can't wait to see the finished product.

Gotta say wow! What a stellar effort! Just loving it. Looks like he jumped right off the page. Well done!

Have to say those Coimcpalooza pics look awesome. Great work on the costume and nailing the Hellboy poses.

Thanks. I'm honestly most happy with how well the costume held up. Usually my costumes don't fare too well at cons, but this one was fabricated pretty solid.

Base color and shading is done. First started with a black coat, then a red coat, then some shading.

And buckles!

GREAT Costume! really captures the comic!!! I didn't catch, is that all scratch made? If you don't care, take me through the process of building the mask. I want to do a bookend-ish piece for my Hellboy Library collection.

Yep it's all made from EVA floor mats. I used a heat gun to mold and shape them, and hot glue to glue em together. I used a woodburning knife to cut the foam up, and a dremel with various bits for detailing. The hair was done with thin craft foam. Everything was covered in plastidip paint, a couple layers of krylon paint, and details done with acrylic paint and brushes.

Shipped it off a while ago but I just wanted to share how the lenses turned out. I used the heat gun to form plastic from a bright orange measuring triangle. I'm pretty happy with the result.

This is so awesome! I've always loved Mignola's art style and you've captured the look perfectly.Great job!

The thing about ModPodge is, a lot of places online advocate a lot of thin coats in order to not cover up details. But I need this ModPodge to fill in the cracks and I'll accentuate most of the details with the paint job. I'm sort of skeptical of how this thing will sand when it's dry. Fingers crossed.

Not a fan of the Podge either, wether it’s in thin layers or chunks, but it’s better than spraying anything. The beauty of such a character’s final rendering is that you can texturize the paint, to make it burnt, aged, weathered. Which is seems you have done later on. My point being, does it need to be filled with podge? If the parts match, glue should suffice, right?

The costumes pretty much finished. I'm sure I'll add some more buckles and paint touches in the coming month. I'll paint my exposed skin red when I get some proper photos.

Really like the paint job bringing back the right hand of doom and the body sides in two dimensions - with those darker areas - very clever. I was thinking the other day that I should it on mine.
