MattyCollector "Mattel Hoverboard" discussion

got a set of new graphics (top only so far), looks a lot better already, still needs a few tweaks though... (the top pink stripes are missing on purpose as i'll be cutting the graphic to sit in the recess on the board and attaching the pink velcro)

That does look good. :thumbsup

You're in Canada??

Yup I'm in Markham, Ontario.

Here's a non-destructive mod I was thinking of, that I thought I'd share for those who want to keep their board mint, but also want to improve how it looks:

Since Matty used velcro loop tape for the footstrap, why not take more accurate pink fur, and sew a matching length of velcro hook tape to it, facing out. Then all you have to do is adhere the two lengths together and you have a more accurate footstrap that you can remove at any time to maintain its original condition.

And then just make a small hollow cylinder -- open on one end -- out of black paper and drop it into the handlebar hole and again, you have a more accurate look without sacrificing the original condition of the board.

Thoughts?

THAT'S the Matty Board? Wow, huge improvement. It really is the graphics that throws it off so much. That looks soo sweet.

yeah the graphics make a huge difference! I'm still toying with the idea of moving the footpad back too.... although i do think it looks good where it is with the new graphics

Looks great. Well done, Mike. :)

I have finished my files as well and will make some test prints over the weekend. Here's a small preview:

thanks :) yours look good too! will you be making them downloadable? i haven't got around to measuring the bottom graphics yet

Roland,

If one took the Mattel board down to a bare slate, meaning...
  • the decals were removed
  • the front top channels for the pink velcro were filled in
  • the stock footpad was removed and area filled in in preparation for a new footpad to be added on TOP of the board as is accurate, and
  • the bottom magnets were removed, pink protrusion areas underneath the magnets removed, and protruding area under rear magnet bracket removed
...creating FLAT top/bottom surfaces, would your lenticular board graphics fit these flat surfaces of the Mattel board, or are the surface dimensions of the Mattel board too far off from what you used to create your lenticular graphics?

I'm itching to stick some good accurate-looking lenticular material (which I hope to have within a couple weeks—will need to be custom-made) to the stripped and flattened top/bottom surfaces of my Mattel board, followed by your lenticular graphics (stuck on top of the lenticular, followed by removing the sections covering the lenticular areas so the lenticular shows through) and some Icons-molded bottom parts...

Awwww yeah!! Awesome, man! Looks amazing! Any plans do do a grey/silver strip to put around the edge? The board's edge is pretty rough under the sticker, so painting might not turn out so great. All it'd need to be is a quarter inch wide band of grey.

Hi,new here....

I am from Canada, Ontario specifically, and I ordered 3. Received shipping notice on the 5th and 8th, still nothing... I don't remember my pke meter taking so long..

Anyone else in Canada received their's?

nothing yet and I'm in Montreal.

Why waste your beautiful Icon parts and lenticular on this board? The bevels are terrible. :(

But the fluorescent pink injection-molded plastic is beautiful.

To be honest, my original plan was to have a hoverboard of every iteration: Mattel stock, Mattel converted to accurate photo board, Mattel converted to accurate lenticular board, wooden photo board, wooden lenticular board, etc.

BUUUTTT...it looks like I may be moving out of the country for a while, living in an apartment, and am having to take a hard look at the possessions. Hard as it may be for me to accept, I may only be able to have one hoverboard in my life. So I'm planning to go all-out on converting mine to see if the Mattel board can be good enough to be my ONE board (to rule all boards).

Also, remember that some of the lenticular wooden boards had a rounded upper edge.

Roland, Roland... this preview is getting me crazy! :wacko

I don't see the time to see your conclusion! It'll be awesome!!!

Congratulations!

What Mattel could not do with all their resources, two individuals have already knocked out screen accurate graphics. Mattycollector graphics look amateurish by comparison.

That's understandable, these things can be tricky to lug around... but come on, Icons parts on a Matty board? :cry

Trade ya my accurized BTTF123's?:lol
