MattyCollector "Mattel Hoverboard" discussion

As for me, I still haven't received my board yet. It was shipped 2 weeks ago. I live in Montreal, thus I don't have a tracking #.

My hope is that I don't get the board on time, ask for a refund with my CC company and then receive the board for free.

fingers crossed!

I'm a casual BTTF fan but I've been following this Thread for a long while just because I wanted to see if the replica was done right or horribly messed up.

Given the amount of reference Mattel had of screen used boards, I can't believe how much different this board looks. Like the MR Obi ANH Saber, it does 'look like' it supposed to, and yet it's so inaccurate in so many ways.

For $50 I would have picked one up as a toy, but as a prop replica? Not at their asking price, not by a long-shot.

I feel obligated to chime in since I hosted that first Matty video for Beyond the Marquee.

I feel just as deceived as everyone. I was REALLY looking forward to seeing the final product. Everything we were told (even off camera) lead us to believe this prop was going to get the love and attention it deserved.

For the record: The guys at Matty were all REALLY passionate about it, and we spent more time geeking out about BTTF than recording; so what ultimately got in the way of the final product is anyone's guess.

For me, the biggest disappointment is the lack of the lenticular detailing. That was my first question to them, and I even asked permission off camera to point it out on the prototype.

So yeah, this is a huge bummer! I really wanted this to be as amazing as they claimed it would be!

And after calling Digital River AGAIN, i was at least given this bit of clarification: The message boards are moderated entirely by Mattel and Digital River has nothing to do with them. They only handle the shipping, refunds, and can give out product info.

The number for the Mattycollector division of Mattel in California is: (310)252-2000 ext. 3849

I've had to call and complain about an issue with Matty's SDCC Pre-Order Vouchers. After a month of beating around the bush with Digital River and CS, I went straight to the top!

I was really disappointed about the lenticular as well. I still cannot believe that they cheaped out on that as it was one of the selling points.

However, I could get over not having a lenticular long before I could get over the fact that they used scotch tape to hold the cheap stickers together.

Scott Neitlich should have tempered expectations. Instead He went into marketing/Salesman pitch mode in the video, to over hype the Matty Collector Hoverboard. Mattel line of thinking was that they will buy our crap regardless of accuracy or quality. This was a half assed effort, Mattel deserves to be called on the carpet for this crap they pulled.

Then make sure you file a complaint with the BBB like I did. We need to put as much pressure on Mattel over this debacle as we can. We can't let them off the hook for this.

So, I mean, what DID happen? Did they just go ahead with the improper tooling, and after they were called out on it ("sooo not final"), but then decided, "ahh, screw it" - and proceed with it as it was?

Again, I wonder if anyone from Matty is on here - I mean, if *I* were a prop designer for a major toy company, I'd be all over this place.

I think you just answered your own question.

Interesting to see after banning and editing a new influx of positive new member one posters starting up on the thread at Matty.

On another note has anyone in the uk had there's on the standard delivery yet, I usually having my goods within 10 working days, I'm on 12 now

Nothing here yet. I have a feeling customs will be the hold up at this time of year. Get ready for another bill!

Question to Roland:

If you do end up making new decals for the Matty Hoverboard, should we watch this thread for purchasing information?

It's not allowed to sell anything outside the junkyard. But I don't think you will miss my sales thread when the time comes. :)

Who in the UK has recieved theirs? It'd be good to get one before Christmas. Ironically 2 parcels from Japan beat Mattel, with Mattel having a 2 week head start

And what's funny, is Mattel actually had months and months of a head start when you think about it, what with the preorders.

They could have easily planned ahead and had them shipped so they would arrive to people before Christmas.

I just don't understand the tardiness

Look at Weta for the D9 guns. We had a similar wait time. The guys set up a warehouse IN the UK so we got them on time. They had the replicas made in China and then QCd by the Weta Workshop in NZ to make sure they were film accurate. THEN they were shipped to the UK warehouse so they got their product out right away. Given, these replicas were more expensive, but I would pay the same price to have Weta make screen accurate hoverboard replicas rather than Mattel right now.

It comes down to - who is better at making movie replicas? That's what this board was advertised as. Mattel now has dirty hands, and the shipping woes is just the icing on the 'don't buy from them ever again' cake

I have to admit, as I said in my above post;

I'm somewhat disappointed that a product I ordered back in March of this year may very well not arrive in time for Christmas. That's just ridiculous when you think about it.

It'd be different if I'd known the reason it took so long was due to them making sure everything was correct with the product. But we know that simply wasn't the case at all.
