MattyCollector "Mattel Hoverboard" discussion

Yeah but what I am really saying is that Matty makes it money from mums and dads buying their kids toys, not the collectors. They can afford to lose them is push really comes to shove. It is not in their best interest to so though.

Actually you're contradicting yourself as what you say is right about Mattel, but not "Matty" (as in Mattycollector). According to Scott, international fans (and presumably the whole of the mattycollector demographic) are considered "a drop in the bucket" (to quote the man himself). The thing is that the Hoverboard and every other Mattycollector product aren't marketted at children- they're marketted at adult collectors. The deomgraphic you're talking about are what Mattel targets with its retail lines.

I agree that Mattel could survive without Matty, but the thing is that Matty doesn't have much life left in it and even the diehard He-Fans which are its bread and butter, are starting to jump ship.

This boggles my nerdy mind, it truly does. I wasn't going to complain till the boards arrived but I need to now. They advertised it as a accurate to the last detail replica, and even though there are variances between boards so compromises would have to be made they could still have gotten a lot closer than they did. I know that the "die hard fans" may not be the majority of their customer base, but for this board that's who they were aiming for. Its for a property, that although is still popular is quite old, and not currently having a major resurgence. That and the fact that there are/were available almost exclusively through preorder with only a small number to be sold through their "collectors" site upon release. And the preorder happened several months in advance. They wanted our orders, we were the target demographic for this product and it seems they have failed in every way possible. I keep hoping they are pulling the best joke ever with these boards and are going to surprise us all with the final product but the likely hood of that is next to none. Over 90% of collectors would be happy loosing the "gliding" and sounds for a solid hunk of plastic that had proper dimensions and graphics, instead of an inaccurate gimmicky toy. And unless they issues a public statement or at the very lest private ones to all who preordered telling them exactly what they are getting and giving them the option to back out. Then when the box hits the from step and money is gone from bank accounts, guess what thats fraud exactly as others had said, and I would be shocked if there weren't legal ramifications for matty.

Financially Matty is having a hard time justifying itself within Mattel. Some really good designers and engineers were pulled off the hoverboard project and put on regular (money making) toylines. Adult collector projects like this do not generate the income that a company like Mattel is looking for. Any profit they were going to make has already been used up in salaries and tooling. I'm not making excuses for them....its just how it is over there. Especially within the last year or two.

My bigger issue is if they are going to create and sell an item like this that is not for profit, but maybe more for promotion...why not make it extremely accurate and detailed? Although they may have already accomplished that with news articles, stories, etc hence the "whatever" attitude towards the finished production board.

Just to let everyone know there are some hardcore BTTF fans working inside Mattel that are just as frustrated as all of you. Its even worse when they are being told "No, mind your business...we don't want your help".

I'd rather this board be delayed until it is 100% accurate. It seems that the information is not very forthcoming. Matty/ Scott needs to do a good QnA to discuss these issues and how they will be corrected.

autoprops713, if they did that, it's not our problem. They should have said from the beginning that it was not going to be accurate. Period. They spent WEEKS saying it was going to be screen-accurate, to the point of not being any hole or mark that wasn't on the movie boards. They promised the lenticular sticker. They promised quite a few things and they were kind enough on the forums on the pre-reserve time.
After getting the money from all of us, they began to screw things up, getting bad measurements and tools. They were in absolute silence on the forums and just answered 2 or 3 days to copy-paste some stupid generic quotes. They had an attitude of "now we have your money, we don't mind about all you costumers, we will do as cheap and bad looking as we would like and you shut up"

I repeat. This is a fraud. In all it's meaning. A fraud. A fraud that will cost every one of us $120 + shipping just because they were lying since the beginning.

All the videos and responses have been crap. The "accuraccy video" is a damn joke. It's clear Scott himself and his team ripped the velcro and stickers away of their stand hoverboard model to say "hey, this model is crap. Wait a couple of months to see the final product that's gonna be awesome", and now they give us THE SAME EXACT model with the lenticular pattern kind of corrected but still not the promised lenticular. They were just lying to us again to get some time and delay any possible reclamations. They were getting free time.

You know? I'm gonna call my bank and say them to not accept any charge from Mattel. I'm outside US... so when they ask for an explanation, I'll give them a good one: This is a fraud and I'm not paying. And they can sue me overseas if they want to. They won't get anything.

Enough of months of lies from Scott and his team.

You know, I know the ghost traps they put out last year had a couple problems with not opening, and now I see that they're falling way short of expectations on this one. Did that old Ghostbusters PKE Meter they put out have similar failings? It seems like that's the only thing I never hear anyone say anything bad about.

Speechless that's all I can say:facepalm $120 more like $1.20 and now I can't believe I preordered, let's hope Mattel are prepared to handle the mountains of complaints and if I have my way a full refund will be due lookin at what I am goin to purchase:angry

Guys we knew this a Long time ago?? Why is everyone shocked? How about this when you get your board put it away and never touch it again because with everyone complaining including myself we will make this board a collectors item just for the simple fact of all the controversy surrounding it an make double what we all paid in due time.Accurate or not its from Mattel and this WILL be desirable and go up in value.with all the heat Mattel will be getting from this,I will bet any amount of money we will see no more of these being made for sure.Just look at it as a one of a kind toy.I would be stupid to ask for a refund a this point.

Nailed it! I am keeping my preorder. I am excited to get the board. If I ever decide to sell it I am certain I will make money off of it..

Looking at the new pictures of the board, I'm more sure that its just a Dot not a hole.
No it's a hole. If you look very carefully at the first picture in Ojobenito's post, you can see the shadow of the bottom edge toward the bottom of the circle. The camera flash washes out the details (or lack thereof) a bit.

Like pitbull said, I'll keep mine. And besides, if I decide not to sell it, it will go well with my super-accurate:rolleyes DST BTTF2 hat! ..............:lol

I agree. It's definitely a hole.

i feel like im the only one that actually thinks this is pretty cool! didn't pre-order though... would be willing to buy someones off them!

The worst lf all this is that some users gave them things to fix on the board months ago.
I myself made a huge image with almost all flaws, and I did that for free. There must be someone a Mattel earning money for making changes out of nowhere and with no reasong. They only changed things related to stickers (and not the most important and promised thing, the lenticular sticker) Nothing on the board itself has been changed. The footpad is kind of weird and looks like a green red button, and the footstrap is.... I just don't have the words.
We are angry but above all we are dissappointed. This makes no sense at all...

I'm sorry, but this just turned out far below the quality of what it should be.
Glad I didn't pre-order, and still very happy with my bttf123 board.

But I guess like everyone else here, I honestly thought there was no way they could screw up this much of a milk-run. It seems that Mattel really does have the ability to turn screwing up making and selling products (a sale pack that was meant to go on sale at midnight EST still hasn't gone on sale 9 hours later) into an art form.
[/url]

I waited for over 8 hours for that sale to start.... I was so frustrated!! They are so slack down there, I have no idea what goes on at that place to provide such poor customer service.

I only wish that I lived in NY so that I could go down to NYCC myself and directly ask Scott & his pals why they have lied and how could they mess this up. After all of the promises, media attention & pressure that they recieved I fail to see how this could happened.... I mean they even had Bob Gale & his boards down there to be used as references :facepalm:facepalm:facepalm

have you seen your thread on Matty has been removed? Nice to know Mattel are concerned about buyers not being happy....

I just checked and I've received the following two PMs:

This from Catra's Wrath

Bowspearer, if you are unhappy with a product or feel that it does not match the prototype shown, then you are welcome to provide feedback on that - no problem with that whatsoever.

We do please ask however that you keep it respectful and refrain from any personal attacks on any Mattel staff. Whilst your feedback and comments are welcome, please do remember that it is a Mattel owned and operated site, posting comments using words like 'Fraud' and 'Liar' aimed at Mattel products or employees is one sure way to be removed from the forums.

Better to have a friendly conversation about it now rather than it escalate and turns nasty.

This from M.C. Don

There is a line that has been stepped over here. So Bowspearer I've moderated your ability to post for a week as you have blatantly disregarded our member's agreement one too many times. You are always entitled to an opinion, but nasty threats are certainly not welcomed and against the binding legal agreement that you had to agree to to join this service.

If you create another account to post and bash us more - you will be banned from the site in perpetuity. We have rules, abide by them or leave.

I am here to help.

For those who are interested; here is the "Ask Matty" post in question:

More lies from Scott "Pinnochio" Neitlich - Topic

Scott, you told us the final version of the Hoverboard would be shown at NYCC. Well photos have emerged from people at the con and I have to say they're not a pretty sight.

Although the bottom of the board has yet to be shown, the top of it is a disaster!

No lenticular decal (despite the fact that an ameteur props group can sort one out) and you've screwed up the strap AS WELL as the velcro! Considering this, I'm not exactly holding out hope for much better with the bottom of the board.

So this was to be the final version but now it's not and the problems were to be corrected but now they're not?

How can we trust anything you say at this point? Why shouldn't every single one of us with orders simply cancel our credit cards attached to the order so we simply cannot be charged and our orders simply don't go through?

As a consumer, this honestly comes across as a blatant FRAUD (and I've seen several people saying as much) and a blatant bait and switch.

Why should we trust that we'll get any improvements on what we've seen.

How can any of us trust you after it has been a litany of lie after lie coming out of your mouth where this board has been concerned?

I'll be very interested to see whether hell freezes over and this post gets a response which actually endears trust in those of us who have pre-ordered this (which at this point you have completely destroyed I might add), or will it be the typical fare of being ignored or responded to with canned lines which treat those of us who have pre-ordered this with complete and utter contempt?

Contempt it is it seems. So as we can see, Mattel are interested in legalities when it comes to covering their asses, but they have no problem in ignoring their legal obligations when it comes to honoring consumer laws.
