MattyCollector "Mattel Hoverboard" discussion

So, Scott saying on that comic con video that the model they had was "soooo far from final" was just another lie. They only changed the lenticular pattern. The rest is just the same.

The pink strap on the footpad is a bad joke. There is not a single surviving original prop or movie screenshot that show something even similar to that awful pink strap. BAD.

Once again, I recall the video from Scott BEFORE reservation ended. "This sticker (pointing to the top decal) will be a hologram, that shiny lenticular hologram". No lenticular sticker on the final model. LIE TO MAKE US PAY AND NOT GIVING US WHAT WAS PROMISED!

The pink "velcro" doesn't look like velcro on the photo, it's more like some kind of soft fur, but maybe is just the photo.

We have yet to see the bottom side of the board anyway but....

Mattel has been lying from the beginning. We told them quite early about all the board issues that should be fixed, and they didn't fix almost anything. Scott saying a couple of months ago that the sdcc hoverboard was "so much not final" is another bad joke. That piece of junk falling apart was final except for the sticker that still is not as they promised on the beginning. (lenticular and shiny as the hero boards). Also this forum user is saying that this final model stickers are peeling away... ON DAY ONE!!!!!

Mattel, seriously, you've screwed up your product. You made false promises to get the money and not made them true. You should give an explanation to the fans, and also some options or even a cancel option for those who feel cheated for your LIES (because now after seeing the final model, nobody can say those things you said aren't a lie).

This is incredible...sdcc "way so far from final..." yeah... sure....

The pink stripes in the back aren't supposed to have Velcro.

I think I was holding out for a miracle.

It's not so much that it ended up having so many inaccuracies. It's that Mattel lied from the beginning about how many inaccuracies it would have, which was practically none from what they originally promised.

Seriously, members of the rpf can get a run together for the lenticular material and Mattel can't?

If they at least fixed the dimensions of the bottom parts I'll probably keep my pre-order and keep this thing as a curiosity. If they're still as jacked up as they were before, I'll probably pull out and dare them to try to stop me.

I feel the pain here. Looking at this, the only thing I would not be able to do on a DIY board is the small recess that the sticker sits in. Not worth $120 IMO.

Scott has been treating the costumers as nerds. Lie after lie, and telling that the sdcc model was "so not final" and falling apart. I'm pretty sure that they ripped the velcro and stickers apart just for the "accuracy video" we all saw, to give the impression that the board was a cheap look a like model. But that was the final model except for the "lenticular" pattern. (and I'm wondering if they would have fixed the dot size on the pattern if we would have been in silence...).
I mean... the cheap ugly board was final, and one of this forum users who saw it yesterday said that the stickers were already falling apart. Also, and most important thing. Not the promised lenticular. They knew the heromboards were lenticular, and they knew that the boards that Mr.Gale show them were stunt boards for long shots and it was not lentucular, but the hero boards were. Mattel promised lenticular material: they lied to their costumers just to get the money and then wash their hands...

This is just crazy. I thought Mattel was a much more serious company, but they're just big liars with no idea on how to make an EASY prop replica. Because Mattel... it was easier to do it right, that to do this awful thing. And we still have to see the bottom part. Hope someone gets a photo soon.

This is a fraud. That is the word: a FRAUD. They made us pay advertising us a false product with false properties, a very different one than what they promised on the pre-reserve and we paid for.

EDIT: MORE PHOTOS. Just to point out another thing. I know they had to make a rectangular hole to get the pink velcro in place, but the velcro is at a lower level that the board itself, there is like a "step" on that place. Couldn't they have used "taller" velcro? The velcro should be above the board, not carved onto it. And if you make a "step" to keep the velcro in place, use a taller velcro. By the way, and I'm not sure because I'm not at nycc, but it looks like the same material that the awfully looking strap from the footpad. Guess why if that's true? To save even more costs by not using fur like the original props. Mattel just came up with that bedtime false story about that fur being the material used on the original boards as said by the original propmasters. FALSE AGAIN!!!! There is not a single hoverboard screen-used, or not screen-used (from the behind the scenes videos, etc) with that stupid flimsy strap. They just used that to save even more costs. I'm pretty sure.
And again.... NO LENTICULAR AS PROMISED BY SCOOT. And don't tell us more lies, Mattel. You just wanted to be cheaper and cheaper. You can keep your stupid and useless "sounds" and "gliding" (LOL) feature, save on that, and GET US WHAT YOU PROMISED WHEN ASKING FOR MONEY!!!!!
Mattel... it wasn't so hard. You just needed the will to do it right, but you haven't even that.

We knew that at this point it was highly likely they were going to do the "stunt" board without the holographic print.
They screwed up on the lenticular, they goofed up the strap and the Velcro.

They did clean up the graphics and did get the striping well on the edging.

I am interested on "IF" they got the bottom hardware right or not now. Given the basics up top... but lets wait and see.

Another FUNNY picture found from nycc:

After Scott destroying and ripping off the velcro and stickers for the "accuracy" video and saying it was "so far from final and it's just a model falling apart" (THEY rip the velcro for that video to give that impression) and saying that the NYCC would be the final model. We now have another funny note along the hoverboard displayed at NYCC that says:

"Final colours, sculpt, deco, and accessories may vary from the sample shown" (photo below)

So again.... NOT FINAL, SCOTT? Another lie from you (seriously, I've lost the count) to sell the product or keep us waiting for you to make the easy fixes that you don't want to make? Will they tear apart and destroy this model too like the sdcc model and make another video saying how bad and early model is this one too and that the final final really final model is the one we will get at our homes after paying you so we don't get a refund?
They told us that the nycc was going to be final, but they put that note there to keep their back covered in case of complains.
LOL, LOL, AND LOL!!!!!! WORST AND LESS SERIOUS COMPANY EVER!!!!!

PS: By the way, the handlebars hole is black, not pink. Maybe they can save 0,00001 $ of paint on each hoverboard. Thank god I have spraycans...

Can someone please go down to NYCC and give Matty Collector an earful asking them why the have blatantly lied & mislead us about the hoverboard? & also record it and upload their response onto youtube.... I am so disappointed in Matty Collector & Scott Neitlich's bull****

Because they used classic bait and switch tactics to promote and sell preorders for this board, they are under legal obligation to refund any and all preorders if any customer is unsatisfied with the finished product. I will wait to see more video/photos of this thing before I place additional pressure on Matty to give refunds to ripped off customers, but for now: 'It don't look gooood'.

Scott specifically PROMISED lenticular material for this prop. It does not have it. That is a lie used to sell a product what is nothing like what was initially promised. Legally, they have to refund anyone who is unsatisfied because they overpromised on an item to sell preorders.

Yep.

Besides disappointment, I'm afraid a refund is all you'd be getting; and I'm sure Matty will have no problem issuing it.

Sad part is that if this turns out to be 'disaster' board, Matty will still sell out.

Diehard fans are not the bulk of its consumer base.

It sucks, but there it is :(

Hi, first post here and anctually found you guys looking for pics that actually ellayed my fears about the board. Sadly, they have been confirmed.

I hate to say it but as far as preordering it goes; it's our own fault for being idiotic enough to think that this prop replica would be any different to the countless debacles Mattel has had with their collector lines in terms of Ghostbusters and Masters of the Universe Classics.

But I guess like everyone else here, I honestly thought there was no way they could screw up this much of a milk-run. It seems that Mattel really does have the ability to turn screwing up making and selling products (a sale pack that was meant to go on sale at midnight EST still hasn't gone on sale 9 hours later) into an art form.

I wouldn't count on it. Bear in mind that many of Mattel's customers buy other lines and that the preorder was designed to be a cross-sell with their other 6" figure lines.

Lately Mattel have continued to screw up to the point where people really have had enough. They only managed to fill their subscriptions this time through guilt tripping fans into subscribing and I'm not even sure that's going to be enough this time with the way the screw-ups just keep on coming.

They may still sell out, but Mattel's goodwill has just about been used up at this point.

Incidentally, I posted the following "ask matty" thread about the board, if anyone is interested in seeing just what kind of a response we get (ie will hell freeze over or will it be the usual "up yours"): More lies from Scott "Pinnochio" Neitlich - Topic

I don't think this board is going to be bought by just collectors. Matty will go on selling items like this with the "we can't please everyone" attitude they seem to have.

Actually the word going around is that a stack of people have canceled their subs because of the recent screwup with Frosta. I honestly think that it's getting to the point where only he diehard He-Fans are keeping it going and even then people seem to be starting to say "enough is enough".

Yeah but what I am really saying is that Matty makes it money from mums and dads buying their kids toys, not the collectors. They can afford to lose them is push really comes to shove. It is not in their best interest to so though.

With forum like this that provide the level of detail they do on props like this board, Matty was just dumb not to listen.
