MattyCollector "Mattel Hoverboard" discussion

Now that they have a final board to show at NYCC next week (so no more prototypes at this stage), I'm wondering if autoprops713 has a little more of his insider info about the board. It would be great to hear something to keep our hopes high or low.

Ditto!

It's pretty pointless to modify an existing board unless you want the sound FX going. The thing is probably going to be dimensionally off, so it won't provide a decent base. Best thing is to build one from scratch if you're wanting to go screen accurate.

According to the Matty collector site on the hoverboard page
Movie-accurate down to the smallest detail and fully sanctioned by Universal Studios, this is a 1:1 scale model

I wasn't gonna nit pick but they should really change the advertising if they are now saying its different on the message boards :p. Also, I hate so say this but that was the description that was up for the pre orders, if we aren't getting that, does that mean potential lawsuit?

Well sounds like things got a bit quiet over there at Mattel...

Update:

No, I have not seen any yet. I have seen what looks like final final mini boards. They actually look pretty good. I guess some 1:1 samples should be showing up, since they will be showing at NYCC. It is sort of something no one speaks of around here.

ps...still working on getting Bob Gale's boards PMS color codes and dimensions.

Cha-chiiiiing :lol Get your tools ready Mike :)

I took yours to Knightcon this year and soooo many people wanted a picture with it next to the time machine. I was like a celebrity lol.

:D When i've done shows they do attract a lot of attention (mostly from people wanting to take pics and not buy though!).

It's going to be interesting to see the final product, if the mould for the board (which also included the magnets on the one shown didn't it?) is the same for the final version, then this is going to be a complete failure, which is a real shame since they had access to actual props and had chance to take accurate precise measurements. Maybe they'll prove us wrong, let's hope they do!

I still have one on Preorder - I suppose I'll keep it. I'm honestly just glad I kept my original Stunt Hoverboard Decal. I might just have to build a replica for myself now.

Even though I'm making replica parts and planning on making my own hero and stunt boards, I'm most likely gonna keep my pre-order. There's a chance I'll sell it later down the road but for now, I'm gonna keep it.

... There's a chance I'll sell it later down the road ...

It's a licensed product. I'm pretty sure you can sell it for more money than you paid for it. But as a piece in your own collection you would probably never be happy with it.

ehhh not sure about this one....some of the Ghostbuster stuff is pretty cool, but I have definitely seen fan made stuff that looks better

It started today about an hour ago and goes through this weekend. No pictures of the hoverboard yet so it may just not be unveiled yet.

I've been trying to find a skateboard manufacturer to make the wooden board. No takers. Apparently it's just too complicated.

Anyone else think they might know someone that can make them?

@ kurtyboy

My pops made a perfect all-wood hoverboard prototype (no decals or magnets) which I still have if you are interested.
Alternately, if there were interest, we could make more.
As documented in my "Blue Box" and Dexter trophy box threads, we are set up for truly professional woodworking.

back from comic con, board is heavy, HEAVY! and glides smoothly on the show floor but not very far, about 10 feet. I was there at 2 and talked to the head guy at Matty and he was really cool to talk to. The board itself is not lenticular. from what i saw the sticker is just a flat sticker made to look lentincular and the stickesr around the board were peeling.

it's a nice heavy sturdy board, but not the prop you guys are after. its a great toy tho!

not bad looking for 120....in the end....it is a toy...it would be different if efx did this.....

i would expect this type of quality or poorer quality from museum replicas
