Marty McFly's Skateboard - Valterra Splatter Deck Conversion

Hi,

Does anyone know where I can get all of the Madrid Stickers for this skateboard. I don't really have the stuff to try and print them myself. It would probably be easier if I just bought them. This is the last piece I need to finish my deck.

Talk to Emma.

Dhennick99, where did you find those stickers? I'm am working on creating my own Valterra board, but am having a hard time with the stickers. Did you have these custom made?

I got the actual trucks used in the movie. The bushings are just straight orange. Not red orange.

My board has been dropped off at the sign printer to have the vector files printed as a paint mask and then applied to the board. I should have it back in a week. In the meantime, I have to find some spray paint that's a close match for the colors on the board. The yellow shouldn't be hard to find, but the only magenta spray paints I could find locally are neon. I don't think the original paints are fluorescent, are they?

Definitely not a day-glo or hot color, just plain old magenta. Can't wait to see the results.

I didn't think it was day-glo, but I wanted to make sure. The only shade of magenta spray paint I seem to find at places like Lowe's are day-glo, so ordinary magenta might take an internet order to procure. Did you clear coat it with gloss? Matte? Semi-matte? Also, any pointers on getting a clean, rounded cut for the grip tape? That's the only thing I worry about getting right at this stage.

Pics to come, for sure!

It is really easy to install a grip tape, if you follow these steps, you're 100% sure to not screw up :) I used this video for mine, the good thing is that you can apply the grip tape right from the middle as it's cut in the middle, so the risk of air bubble is minor, maybe nonexistent :p

Looks simple enough :)

Paints at the ready. Magenta only comes in satin finish, so I'm going to have to use a satin for the magenta and a gloss for the yellow. The only satin yellow I could find was "lemongrass" which is too flat and skews toward being a tiny bit green. I'm going to hit the finished board with a gloss clear coat, so hopefully that should give it a consistent appearance since I'm having to mix and match satin and gloss paint.

Just waiting to get the board itself back into my hands. Shouldn't be much longer.

The skateboard is being re-issued and sold at the upcoming 30th Anniversary event in California

“We’re Going Back” has a very special agreement with Universal Studios to create exclusive, officially-licensed, limited edition products! There are several limited edition pieces that will be released, including a final reissue of the highly requested Marty McFly Madrid/Valterra skateboard, completely redesigned using Marty’s actual skateboard prop. A limited number of actual vintage 3D glasses have been acquired by “We’re Going Back” and officially licensed exact replicas of the 3D glasses worn in Back to the Future have been painstakingly recreated!

Paint mask applied. Ready for paint.

Fail.

I spray painted the yellow onto the board, and then when I went to remove the masked pieces, the yellow paint tore and ruined the design. In several places. Badly.

Not sure where to go from here. This approach doesn't seem to work. :angry

Why didn't you get the colors printed?

I couldn't find a place that would screen print onto a skateboard, at least not one you provided.

Where did you order your board from?

Anything can be fixed. Sorry to hear about the trouble. I recall losing some of my graphic on my first board with plain old artists tape.

Without seeing all of your materials, my only recomendation in removing paint masks would be to prescore the edges with a sharp blade. Maybe combined with applying some extra heat and a gentle 45 degree 'pull' from the side would improve the results. You don't want to lift the masks straight off of the surface but peel them slowly/evenly away from the surface instead.

The final replica is on sale at weregoingback.com until October 25th... It states it will never again be offered, so now is the time! I just preordered one myself.

So did I. I'm still going to try and finish the one I started though. One to keep, one to play with :)

I have a real valterra deck. When I get back to it I will finish repairing the chips on the edges and try to find a model paint that matches the magenta on the top. Everything on it are genuine items except for a couple of the decals I had printed out. I ordered the replica that went up for sale recently so I may sell the one I'm making. After all even if you get all vintage parts and a real deck it's not truly accurate because the deck in the movie was custom and isn't exactly like the one available in stores at the time.

I just ordered one as well, which means that I will now use the replica I put together as one of my old school cruising decks. I have to admit it will be interesting to see how many folks will pick up on it being the same deck used in BTTF, other than some of my skating buddies who will know it more as a cheapo Valterra and less from the film. Here it is pictured with the Tony Hawk and Natas Kaupus reissues that I use as cruisers and the popsicle setup I skate at the park.

In the description for the reissue it states that this release of the Valterra replica is being produced with the actual "hero board" being used as the reference source and goes on to explain that the stickers are being redesigned to be more accurate as well. I am also interested to see if they use the correct angled copers as opposed to the rounded ones used on the 2010 replica. I also checked to see if they were listed for sale at the Madrid Skateboards site and they were not; however I did notice that the Madrid Fly wheels are no longer available, leading me to believe that the remaining stock was pulled to be used for this last round of replicas.

I am hoping they will re-do the wheels as well, to have the recessed letters like the vintage originals.
