Hello everyone!

I am delighted to present to you an exciting project on which I have worked with enthusiasm: a meticulously crafted replica of Winifred Sanderson's Spellbook from the beloved film Hocus Pocus.

The book was designed using 3D printing and molding various pieces with silicone. Once the silicone mold was ready, latex was poured inside and reinforced with fabric for durability.

The book is colored using various techniques to achieve an authentic antique look, faithfully reproducing the appearance of the film.

The book contains over 300 double-sided pages, about 200 directly inspired by the film and 100 additional pages created to add thickness and richness. The pages are printed in blood-red on aged paper for a retro effect.

The pages are bound together using traditional bookbinding techniques, ensuring remarkable strength and aesthetics.

The book's iconic eye has been meticulously sculpted and created to resemble the one seen in the film.

The different parts of the book are sewn with synthetic thread, offering an authentic and durable touch.

The "serpent" pieces are made of metal and designed to last over time. Each piece is painted and weathered to be faithful to the film, and securely fixed with rivets to ensure their placement and stability over time.

Every component of the book is made with high-quality materials, ensuring exceptional longevity and resistance to wear and tear.

No one has to date created a replica of this book with such accuracy and detail, especially with illustrated pages. The best replica to date.

### Prototype in Evolution

All the photos you see represent the prototype. Some aspects may still change based on feedback and further improvements.

This book is more than just an object; it is a true work of art, skillfully blending traditional craftsmanship and modern techniques. Whether to enhance your collection or as a centerpiece for your Halloween decorations, this Winifred Sanderson's Spellbook is a unique acquisition. Limited edition

Price: 1500€

not including shipping costs

Hey,

I see you have decided to sell your own version of Book after you posted a bunch photos in my build thread of the same prop. I notice you did the same on other peoples post of the their hocus pocus book as well instead of building your own thread.

I was hoping to follow up on your version, after I declined to sell you my STL of my sculpt, did you then sculpt this? Or is this someone else's 3D model? I was just curious since you had asked to buy my sculpt here on the RPF as well as ask to buy my STL (presumably for this reason?) i.e. to make your own copy and sell them?

Hello,

I wanted to let you know that I don't speak English very well, so my responses might lack precision. I will do my best to be clear and understandable ☺️.

Yes, I have indeed decided to create and sell my own version of the book. Being a fan of movie replicas and a collector, I wanted to add a spellbook to my collection.

I wanted to buy your STL file to create a realistic replica just for myself. However, since I haven't received any response from you since March 2024 regarding a possible resource sharing, I decided to create my own version in collaboration with Vlad Alex.

Vlad Alex is a very talented and resourceful 3D sculptor. I hired and paid him to create a version of the book, and he will also receive a percentage of the sales.

Back in 2005, I had already tried to create a wooden version (I have photos if you want to see), but it wasn't very realistic. So, I paused to take courses in silicone molding and learn various techniques for creating objects in latex, 3D, etc., and waited until I was ready.

I did post some photos of the book's creation process, but only to share, not to sell. As a beginner on the forum, I'm still learning to use some of the site's features, and I'm sorry if I was clumsy in posting those photos.

After some thought, I decided to sell my book because our versions are very different. Your version doesn't have pages; it's rigid in resin and without a realistic eye, but I acknowledge that it is very well made. Congratulations on your work!

My version is similar in the object's sculpture, which is normal since we are reproducing the same object. However, mine is made of latex, bound with a specific cord, and painted with various classic and elaborate techniques.

All the pages were reproduced on the "PAGES" application on MacBook, illustrated with royalty-free images, printed on aged paper with irregular edges, and bound using bookbinding techniques (another course I took).

In conclusion, although we are reproducing the same object, the materials and techniques used to create the final product are very different from yours. I am selling my book to fund my training in molding, painting, bookbinding, leatherwork, 3D printing, etc. My intention was never to "steal" your work. If that’s the impression you got from my various posts, I sincerely apologize and ask for your forgiveness. I wish to continue evolving in my art and creations while continuing my training.

Your book is magnificent, congratulations again.

I am open to discussing further if there's a need to clarify any situation.

Thank you in advance,

Swen

This looks absolutely amazing, great job! If I had the money I would totally get one, unfortunately I do not right now.

I understand that this is a significant amount, we are looking to find solutions to make it cost less.

Hello,

Today, I received five yellow zircon stones, and I am considering making a limited edition of five books for now, with the possibility of more if there is enough interest. Here is a photo of the zircon stone on the resin buckle.

Regarding the metal parts of the book, I haven't decided yet whether to cast them in metal or leave them in resin. I'll be conducting some casting tests soon . Let's see how they turn out .

Best regards,

I would like to add that it would be quite foolish of me to buy an STL on the RPF forum and sell it on the same RPF forum.

Not so. We have people here who offer the service of creating STL files. In the project runs section, just look for 3D design and be sure and tell them you want to sell the design. You pay them, and you get the design, and then you use it however you want including selling copies. This is normal.

That being said, you can not normally get a FREE design as they are normally for non-commercial use.

thank you very much for your feedback and advice. I can continue to offer my book hocus pocus, I think that the books are very different from each other, as explained in my previous message

I would be interested in a finished book depending on price. What is the current status of this project? You can DM me cost information, if you prefer. I am in the US.

You have done a great job on your replica and going the extra mile with producing aged and worn pages.

I'm curious as to the longevity of using latex for the cover, even reinforced it will break down over time and come apart. Maybe a flexible urethane or silicone?

thank you very much for your feedback, it’s great .

I have tried several techniques over time. silicone is very resistant but difficult to paint and obtain the desired result, plus it is very expensive. regarding latex yes latex foam decomposes over time but it is not latex foam. I know latex well, I have been doing special effects makeup for a very long time (2008) I still have some of my old makeup which is still in very good condition. the color of natural latex changes but when it is painted, it does not change, at least from what I have experienced. natural latex ages very well over time. I wanted to try casting my own metal parts. I'm going to try to do it, if I can't do it I'm thinking of looking for someone to do it. Do you have any contacts to recommend to me? thank you in advance

I am testing different paint renderings

stage of the project:
creation of the pages finished ✅
creation of the cover 90% finished

decided if I cast the different parts of the snake and buckle in metal or resin : in progress

No one has yet made the book with metal hardware, which I would be most interested in. I hope you can someone who can cast/machine up the snakes and latch in metal at a reasonable cost.
Please keep me in mind as you near completion of these. My interest is real.

If you have any advice for pouring silicone into silicone, I'm listening. What do you call flexible urethane? I am always ready to improve my techniques

I will continue to post the different stages of progress of the project. however I want to be completely transparent with everyone. I am doing this project in my free time, so production time may change.

What’s the inside pages look like? I assume they’re accurate to the movie? I didn’t see any photos really other than the first page I believe?

Hi,

I saw various examples on the web and managed to find some fonts to recreate the pages from the movie. This required a lot of research: pausing the movie when the pages turned, advancing frame by frame, and transcribing the text into Pages. I also created additional pages from start to finish to add thickness to the book. If I had kept only the original pages seen in the movie, the book would have seemed very thin.

You can see the book pages at the link I provided:

Feel free to give me your feedback!

Thanks.
