Mandalorian Season 3

I lost a lot respect for Ryan Airey after he started using his platform to publicize his political ideology. Plus, he gets stuff wrong all the time. My wife and I switched to New Rockstars for their breakdowns. When we don’t intend to watch a series, it’s an easier way to see the content and hear about the connections (like every other Marvel Disney+ show.)

One thing about this season of Mando, I had hoped there would be a really cool standout design in one of the background costumes. I’ve thought for a while a custom Mando suit would be cool to build, but will always love basing my costumes off a screen used design. I didn’t see a single costume that I thought was cool enough to recreate.

The closest one is the fleet commander, but even then I don’t think the design is outstanding. I do still love the idea of Mandalorian privateers, but we didn’t really get to see anything up close for their costumes.

I watch New Rockstars, too, and between the two I get a satisfactory sum of the easter egg/references. Both are wrong on occasion. Both have a tendency to think they recognize a legacy sound effect or music cue, and then the editor tries to demonstrate the match and all it does is show that they were mistaken. I've wondered why the editor doesn't just omit such observations when they can't demonstrate them.

They both have writers, too, it isn't just them when they're right or wrong.

I haven't personally found anything ideologically objectionable. If they draw a parallel with the Empire and fascism on Earth, well, yeah, ask GL about that! ;)

NR is doing a rewatch series on Daredevil, and I thought it was time I finally give that show a watch (I originally gave up a few episodes in, found it too grim). However, since it IS a rewatch, they don't hesitate to make MAJOR spoilery references to things that happen later, and that is really pissing me off. I sent a message begging him to stop, but if that continues I'm going to have to tap out of his videos on the subject for now.

This is perfect!! I think it was interesting that this series revived R5...like really? Let's take a broken discarded droid from the OT and try to make him work. It's so indicative of the current state of Star Wars. R2D2 represents the OT and R5 the current regime. R5 didn't work then(He had a bad motivator) and the current regime doesn't work now(They have bad motivators as well). Pretty sure i know who the Jawas are employed by currently.
"Hey...what are trying to push on us?"

Ha. New Rockstars cracks me up. Oh Eric Voss.

"Mando shoots 5 times and MISSES twice! This could be a reference to the 1982 Star Wars comic "Boba Fett in the land of the lost #2" Where on page 5 he's holding a gun and you can see the drawing of him is MISSING his targeting scope on his visor"

The FRACK are you talking about?!

Don't get me wrong. I'm a fan. But I'd love to get drunk with him at a bar and talk about reaching for context....

They know they wouldn't have any content if they didn't keep making connections where none exist!

I do like that Mando and baby Yoda had a little cottage with a frog pond at the end of the series. I'm Happy to finish it there so long as skywalker doesn't show up to steal the baby again ! I'd shoot him on sight !

Good idea! Put Luke out of his misery before we have to watch the Sequels! That's the kind of thinking we need around the RPF!

I've had a gutsful of the Skywalker saga, tbh. I do find it interesting to see where the power struggle in the SW universe is going but not to the extent that I need to see it in every damn SW spinoff! I really wish Grogu had been left with Luke at the end of season 3. Now Mando still has to lug around this MacGuffin which doesn't even do anything for at least another season! My hopes for The Mandalorian in the beginning were that he'd be a grizzled bounty hunter chasing down misfits on outer rim planets with the Old Empire/New Republic only being on the periphery of the story. Maybe we'll still get something like that in the next season.

I love how they ended Mandalorian at Season 2 when Luke took Grogu...
Who knows what kind of adventures they might get up to and where Mando himself might finish up but I'm glad they didn't just bang on and just milk the characters with loads more pointless episodes that just denigrate what they've achieved so far

I would hope that at some point Grogu would go back to Luke. That could lead into the whole Jedi school thing. Years later, maybe somehow Ben kills Grogu, but there is no proof whatsoever, but Luke suspects it. This could lead into Luke's vision of the dark side in Ben. Could bring a lot more weight into Luke's mindset during the scene of Luke almost killing Ben.

Sure would fix my outlook of the film

Did anyone notice that they use the same shot of BoKatan 3 times at the start of the episode: normal, flipped, then normal again,....with Axe Woves flying up to his ship breaking up the shots:

That's pretty common in movies where scenes need a slight extension or flipping for whatever reason in editing, either for a need to extend a scene slightly or continuity issues, and because its usual a last minute detail and only for a moment they just manipulate a few frames to get what they want particularly when time prohibits getting a crew together to shoot it.
I seem to recall in a discussion in a behind the scenes video on editing the original Star Wars that when Luke is attacked by one of the sandpeople while looking for R2 they felt the scene needed a shot of the guy shaking his gaffii stick over Luke to round out the scene better.. so using a few frames of the sandguy when he first startles Luke they just 'boomeranged' those few frames so it looks like he's shaking his stick above his head in triumph.
