Mandalorian Season 3

Did anyone else think this?

I don't know if an explanation was ever onscreen, but in my head, after the entire droid army was shutdown all at once in TPM, revealing the (very obvious) weakness, the droids were redesigned to be more autonomous, necessitating the use of Tactical droids to command battles with more old fashioned communication methods. This would also allow the battle droids to develop the quirky personalities we see in the Clone Wars cartoon.
Correct, In Canon, both Legends and Disney, the droids were modified after Naboo to no longer be reliant on a transmitted command code and to be able to operate independently. There was a cut scene from Episode II where a part of the Jedi Strike Team attempts to shut down the signal from the command ship, only for it to be a trap and them to be captured. These were the Jedi, including Plo Koon and Ki-Adi-Mundi who got escorted into the arena late in the fight as the survivors are encircled before the Clones show up. This was going to explain to the audience how they could no longer just blow up one ship to win the battle.

Oh wow, that would’ve been nice! That the droids no longer needed a control ship after that was so clearly demonstrated in TPM seems like a fairly important point for George to just gloss over. Even some brief dialogue about it would’ve been better than nothing.

If they were deactivated in the events of RotS, was there later some cottage industry where people were gathering up all these derelict droids and reworking them or overriding the shutdown code?

The puppet work for this season has been terrble. The aforementioned Ughnaut mouth movement also plagued the Pirate King's. Same with the Anzellans and Baby Yoda's movement whenever he walks or bounces around.
What the production team really needs to do with Grogu is to make 2 versions of him. The regular puppet, and another one that has weights in it so that when people pick him up it doesn't look like they're picking something that weighs as much as a puppet. Since they've been having people pick him up much more this season, it's been really standing out to me that there's no weight to him whenever he's being picked up.

Agreed 100%.

Also, a lot of plus sized people in this episode. I’m all for body positivity, but as my wife and I talked about, that is not the norm in the Star Wars universe. I assume that’s a nod to the life of opulence and arts on that planet?

As for the cameos, the Lady’s Man last week was okay because he played the role straight (even if I was waiting for comedy), but good Lord, Jack Black and Lizzo were terrible. My wife enjoyed them, but I thought it was like watching an MTV skit. I would have never guessed either one of those people being a part of the universe, and essentially being exactly as I expected.

If this was my first look at Star Wars, I’d never watch it again. Season 3 doesn’t even take itself seriously, so why should I?

Currently watching the Celebration live-stream, & the interview with Esposito, Weathers, & Emily Swallow was just on.

The more I see Emily, the more I'm convinced that she WILL eventually remove her helmet. There's no way you hire someone that graceful, charming, & gorgeous to ONLY have her under a helmet for the entire production.

I am in a couple of the big FB Mando/Din build groups and have noticed a big uptick in for sale posts for complete kits recently

I'm one of the first to complete a pre-Beskar suit, 2 months before the show started airing and have been gradually building my Beskar armor piece by piece over the past few years. The latest season totally demotivated me to complete it.

I also completed a pre-Beskar suit, and am happy to have done so…but thankful I never started on the Beskar version. I’d be hard pressed to finish it after seeing this season.

I am not in the Bo groups but I bet they are losing their minds now after this episode.
Instead of a spin-off for Bo like was suggested earlier, I could see this show shifting to her being the title Mandalorian .

I have a pre beskar too. Need to see some pics from you guys.

Would love to check your suits out as well! Here is mine:

I have been thinking that one of the background Mandalorians would jump out at me as being a next costume, but I haven’t seen a single one that I’d even consider as an option. The privateer/male Night Owl suits weren’t bad, but I don’t think they are good enough for me to bite.

I did see that Axe Woves chest armor has changed styles though. I wonder why? I’m not fond of that character either way…Seemed like he was fodder last season, then didn’t show up with Bo or Koska for the Gideon raid. I figured he was a throw away, not leadership material.

I’m now only collecting OT props…may have to sell my new Mando bust

This is embarrassing

Pretty much everything I've been making for the past 3 years has been from Mando. Din's helmet, blaster, armor, and Bo-Katan's helmet are all on my bench right now. And I'd be lying if my reaction to s3 hasn't soiled my interest in working on them...it's such an odd feeling. The first 2 seasons I wanted to make something from nearly every episode. This season...there's hardly anything that caught my eye. No new cool props, no new weapons. The show isn't even fulfilling my prop love anymore :(

This past week I've actually had thoughts about shelving them for a bit and doing some stuff from Guardians of the Galaxy, both in excitement for Vol. 3 and because that franchise has been reliable and I actually have faith for this third installment.

Sweet! Maybe I can pick up some Mando gear for cheap! Been really considering getting into costuming lately.
