Magic of Myth ( MoM ) Luke RotJ Hero ( cave build ) lightsaber research, images, reference, & collaborative model builder's discussion.

Man, between this and the Starkiller run, I’m gonna have gorgeous static and FX builds. Just gotta decide which one gets built static, and which is FX.

Love that spray paint.
Maybe a layer of matte clear coat on top would make it even more accurate.
Burnished the paint a bit: it really is a great color

also did a bit of start-stop with the Disney 4K. Got another grab of the Yuma in the desert with less overblown lighting.
Just had to up the black level and saturation (matching the skiff color for reference)

Given this, it looks to me like the paint color was the same back then as it is now.

And the ACE paint definitely has my approval. It does wonders to handle it in person and make comparisons

well, Adam and I will be pursuing a true static version to follow this one so.... XD
That will feature even more haphazard and cobbled mistakes from the original

Yes, but the Starkiller run began before that announcement. Also, I have a sense of brand loyalty, and having both kits will be a chance to compare two different takes (but with some cross-pollination) on the same prop. Nothing beats a little healthy competition, after all.

I am excited to see where thew static run goes. This saber basically had to situate a rod in place so Mark could swing it around. That's all it was designed for. Re-decorated, yes, but internally that (to me) gives more clues ... IF the Yuma really is the Close-Up Hero

Can’t argue with that! ;)

Thanks for all your hard work trying to replicate the screen-used color. I do think that bronze looks best out of the box as an idealized metal choice for the neck, and that the Ace paint looks like the best paint color.

Very much a work in progress but I wanted to preview the FX Reveal board format we are adapting from the full static board. As you can see it’s a bit tighter on room. I’m going to continue to adjust the spacing and proportions of some of the elements to have a more natural balance and emphasis. I don’t want it to appear *stretched*. More to come. (And yes, I made it blurry! Can’t let you guys see *too* much yet)

Whoa. That's incredible, such talent..

Do you think those weird copper traces on the chip and stuff are decoration?

yes. Incidentally, at one point BRRogers noticed the pattern lines up with some of the elements from the Death Star. So it MIGHT be some sort of foil bits they glued onto the chip to cover up the normal manufacturer logo and used some leftover death star model bits to do it...

Hackery at its finest.

Makes sense. They used photoetched brass for all of the Death Star superstructure detailing, so they could easily have just grabbed some pieces from the spares pile and used it to dress up the chip to make it look less Earthly.

Yep, BRRogers has some overlays and side by side comparisons of just that. The patterns are Identical so that is the working theory of precisely what happened to give the card those weird gold patterns across it.

don't ask me how they avoided shorting any of the circuitry by doing that but we see traces of glue so maybe it was dialectric glue.

Can confirm: the sections are etched brass.

I found the clearer photos of the Death Star 2 prop, AND actually found the same sections that they must have used. Having been matched and rendered and confirmed at scale. I’m desiring to have them etched and included in the kit to add atop the reveal pcb. Some of the mess in the middle is where they layered it up but once I found the actual sections separated, it made complete sense how the layering worked
That was a whole afternoon of madness
*edit*
the next best solution will be for someone to come forward with better scans of the original unaltered brass sheets.
A set had been up at auction but went unsold some time ago. And alas I am not made of money

my wife that day... “what ARE you doing?”

To clarify I think they painted the top of the IC. With some white and an army green to cover the IC code/manufacturer info. The DS brass sits on top.
Someone must have told them to have it ready for an even better closeup

Ace stores are the only thing that carries the ace brand as far as I know, but I’m sure they would be able to ship over border? Or someone might be able to ship it for you :)
