Limited Run Luke's ROTJ Static Hero/Yuma/ISYHCANL Prop Replica Kit (2nd Run) *SIGN UP CLOSED*

Hello Dave, please put me down for a Hero set please if there is still one available. I will DM my email for invoice. Thank you. Paul.
Hi. That's great. Thanks. No problem. I'll get you added now. Cheers (y)

The parts haven't been ordered yet, so no limit on numbers. I'll be taking payments from 1/9/20. The cutoff will be 7/9/20 (the day I'm planning to place the order for the parts). :)

*UPDATE*

Hi Everyone. As promised, here is an update with some new renders of the final models...

It took a bit longer than anticipated to arrive at the final version. It's been a very long process, which began last year with the original ISYHCANL version of this. When you align these models with a reference photo, and adjust it to match the subject matter, it's easy to think that that's the end of the story. But when you then take that model and align it with another reference, taken from a different angle, and using a different lens/FOV, you find subtle inaccuracies. You then correct the model and plug it back in to the previous view, to find that further adjustments need to be made!

I've gradually whittled down these final models, and have now honed in on a version that works across a range of references.

Here are some shots of the final models:

The previous run was already very accurate, so the changes are very subtle, but here's a quick list of some of the things that have changed:
  • Every edge has been reevaluated and adjusted to match higher res reference images
  • Transition from control box section to grenade section is no longer 90 step
  • Some of the edges have been softened on the neck ("copper") section to match the reference images
  • The position of the second grub screw has moved slightly
  • The screw and triangle positions/orientations have changed slightly
  • The hero box screws are now M1.6 2mm screws rather than M1.4 3mm
  • The triangles are now a fraction larger
  • I have sourced a more accurate T strip to the one provided with the previous kit
  • Deeper black buttons
  • Functioning second grub screw (deeper emitter entrance)
The emitter now has a deeper entrance to take a short Yuma blade tang, which can be secured using the second, functioning grub screw:

For the Hero version, this can be filled in and painted, as it is on the original prop.

I'm calling it a day with the models now. I need to get these converted in to a usable format for the manufacturer and update the accompanying CAD drawings now, so my time is going to be taken up with that leading up to the order date of 07/09/20.

Hopefully everyone is happy with how everything looks? I'll hopefully have one of the PCBs to show before I begin taking payments on 01/09/20. Or at least a photo of the printed card.

As always, I'll keep you posted with any further developments. In the meantime, anyone that would like to jump on to the run, please leave a comment or send a DM. I'll be leaving sign up open until order day (07/09/20)

Thanks again to everyone for your support! MTFBWY

*Update*

Hi Everyone. Just a quick heads up. I'll be sending out requests for payment later today based on everyone's orders so far.

It will probably be this evening (UK time) as I'd like to get everything in to a spreadsheet first and have a few other bits to get done too.

I'm going to be working out everyone's PayPal fees on an individual basis using ebayfeescalculator.com. I didn't actually realise (rather stupidly) just how different the fees would be, depending on order size and location. I don't want anyone to be overcharged. If I'm not sure where you are, I'll work out the total price for UK/Europe/International, and you can choose the one that applies to you. :)

I've requested a photo of one of the PCB boards, which are currently in production. Hopefully that will come through at some point today, so I'll be able to share some progress on that before requesting payment.

Couple of other things to share too... ;)

Like I said, It will be later this evening though if that's OK (Just to avoid any frustration).

Thanks again to everyone for your support. Very excited for this final run!

All the best, and MTFBWY!

Dave

Sorry guys... I nearly got through everyone... I'm most of the way through sending out payment info. Gotta turn in now though or I'm going to start making mistakes! :D

Apologies if I haven't got to you yet. I'll most definitely get through the rest of the list first thing in the morning!

That update will have to wait now too I'm afraid. :( Better to post it when I can string a sentence together! :p

Hope that's ok with everyone.

*EDIT*

Anyone who pays in the meantime, Thank you! I'll respond ASAP tomorrow morning. (y)

*Update*

Hi Everyone. Apologies for the delay on this promised update. I've been really busy as you all know, sending out confirmation messages and responding to everyone. It took a little longer than I expected, but I got there eventually! :p

Thank you to everyone who's paid so far! And to everyone who intends to. The cut off (when I intend on ordering the parts), is 7th Sep.

I haven't contacted those who have ordered a stand alone PCB yet, as I you haven't seen them yet, and the 7/9/20 date doesn't apply to these.

I did receive a picture from the manufacturer today.....

These are still in production and have another process (gold plating) to go through before being cut out, but I couldn't resist sharing!

The other image is the stand-in microcontroller that will sit inside the blank square. It has one of the gold foil labels I've had produced applied.

Hopefully you can picture the final thing based on the concept I mocked up:

I can't wait to get hold of one of these and get one built up to show you! I especially can't wait to get one installed in the Hero from my first run!

Another welcome development is that I had a delivery of new T-Section. I'm happy to say that it's a massive improvement on the previous run! The T profile I sourced previously was a little thin for my liking, but it was the closest thing that I could find at the time. All attempts to have them manufactured came to a dead end, with the 3D printed ones I had made warping and chipping due to their size (Which is why they weren't included in the kits).

Well, I'm happy to say that I've finally found something that is as close to screen accurate as you can get! They are also a much sturdier material (the last ones were a little rubbery in texture):

I know I said I was done with adjusting the model, but there was some discussion behind the scenes regarding the grenade section...

In order to put the grenade ring thickness debate to rest once and for all, I decided to do a little old-school photogrammetry using photoshop.

I took the most side-on high-res shot of the grenade available, blew it up to 4K, increased the contrast and played with the levels to remove any bloom, and then proceeded to use the analysis tools inside of photoshop to get accurate measurements for each ring and each gap between them (to three decimal places of a mm). I used the known distance between the first ring and the neck ring to set the scale.

I then built a reference grid inside of 3DS Max using these measurements, for me to snap the vertices of the model to along the X axis:

Rings1.jpg

The model changed very little, so I won't be updating the renders and overlays. It was a valuable exercise though, as it adds to the certainty that the model is perfect before sending to the manufacturer. :)

Now I'm definitely stepping away from the model! :D

Thanks again to everyone for your support on this project!

MTFBWY!

Dave

*Anyone who would like to jump onboard before sign up closes, I'll be placing the order for the parts on the 7th.*
