Son of a...

The grip screws look like they're plain old slotted screws and the kobold/d-ring looks like hex socket cap screws...

Edit: on second look, the kobold/d-ring still looks like rivets based on the head profile, but the center looks like it has angles, almost like the hole part (dunno what the term is) is hex shaped.

I'll go with Phillips head screws for the grips and rivets for the Kobold. I think you can make your eyes see just about anything for the grip screws, but I like the simplicity/logic behind the Phillips head thinking.

It is obvious that they are those little candy dots, dyed black and marked with crosses to ward off vampires. Mystery solved. Make sure I get credit on partofsw.com YOUR WELCOME!

@Lichtbringer - Are those sheet metal screws or machine screws? Great looking lightsaber by the way. I'm starting to accumulate the bits for an ESB build. I'm still learning about all the varieties. If I'm not mistaken, the front brass screws didn't appear until after the opening scenes on Hoth?

A kind of wood screws - bought them in a hifi-shop, they were used to hold the speaker-chassis in loudspeakers. Looking like standard sheet metal screws, just a little bit more tiny.

Still need to paint them. :confused

M2 machine screws, brass was the only material i could get in that size easily.

did you have to put nuts on the back of those? I guess I don't know how those type of screws work :lol I dont have a tap &die set downstairs

If you'd ask me the original lightsaber-propbuilder got sick and tired of gluing those grips back on time and again ... so at one point he cut the T-track and pre-drilled the holes and just added the whatever kind of screws or rivets were available without to much hassle, since Mark was waiting for it on set.

IMO this is exactly what they did why they did it, and why its so hard for us to replicate :darnkids

well perhaps if all who are building an ESB saber right now, would pretend that it has to go to set within a certain timeframe and we are allowed to use anything that's readily available . . . we could scr*w this thread and be done with it, wouldn't we? :lol
