It actually is that dumb!
Totaly out of context. Watch the interview. He does have his gripes but those statements on the video were in some cases talking about when ESB was made.

I wanted to post a video here, but I was afraid of it being marked as political. But go to YouTube look, up “O’Keefe Media Group” and look for the video from three days ago with a Disney VP. It pretty much confirms what we all already knew.
oh most definitely. He is upset and all but that doesn't mean they can twist his words to fit an argument like on that video. How in the hell could George NOT be upset by what Disney has done to his franchise?
I guarantee you he's upset. What he says or does publicly is a different matter.
These franchises are huge corporate product lines. A stray sentence from some of these people can make a stock price move and everybody knows it. Nothing that George Lucas says about current Disney should be considered candid.

This is the part i dislike about the current state of the fandom. It's so polarized that its either all the love or all the hate. We need to be more objective.
I have a roll of that paper!
Those were some great times. I really believe that today's polarization comes from social media algorithms more than anything.I've been going through old 95- issues of SW Insider magazine and the thing that sticks out to me is how they talked about their projects and the fans versus now. Rick McCallum, doing a Prequel update Q&A, regularly says they are making them for fans and that, usually after being asked about FX, says the story comes first. Almost all projects, be it games, books, or whatever, the people involved say the story is first. Then other articles, in particular an interview with Dustin Chin (LucasArts, about Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight) said basically that fans are loyal and fickle and in most cases know more about SW than they do, so they owe it to them to make a good product. Compared to now where actors and Lucasfilm employees regularly attack fans for real criticism.
