I want to make a short movie about Palpatine AFTER RoTJ going back to the crashed Death Star to construct a Sith knife that basically says "Look in the closet, I put a surprise in there!"

Here's a question, what are Storm & Clonetrooper helmets good for? Or more to say, what can they do? They don't seem to offer any sort of link with their weapon for targeting, even Crosshair, a clone developed and wearing armor specifically designed for sniping still has to shoulder his weapon and look down a scope. They don't seem to offer night vision either, in both The Batch and Mando, we see troopers using flashlights in the dark. So what benefits do these buckets actually offer? They're not even good enough to stop stone weapons being wielded by overgrown teddy bears.
I know it's been said before, but it's always worth repeating. In the original two movies Storm Troopers were actually a pretty effective fighting force.

First time we see them, they totally dominate the rebels. Then they aren't the ones who let the droids go, that was the regulars. The troopers get sent to recover the droids and actually do a decent job. If R2 hadn't run off and Luke got REALLY lucky they would've got them. In less than a day they track the droids to the Jawas, Decimate the Jawas AND track them to the Lars place. Even then they still manage to almost get them in Mos Eisley.

They are ineffective on the Death Star but we learn that they were ORDERED to let the rebels escape. During the attack on the Death Star, again the regulars blow it by warping to the wrong side of the planet, but the tie pilots do a decent job of taking out the rebels. Luke only gets his shot because Han got there at the right time.

Movie 2: The commanders make some blunders, but once the Snow Troopers land on the scene it's all over but the crying. Cloud city gives them no trouble, and the heroes only manage an escape because the troopers were understaffed because Vader didn't want them seen. They still didn't "lose" they just weren't enough to stop the fleeing heroes from escaping.

Even in ROTJ, they look bumbling getting beat by Teddy bears, but really I think Lucas was TRYING to make the Teddy Bears look really effective, not make the troopers look like buffoons.

After that it's all downhill. I think the final nail in the coffin was Rogue One: a whole squad of troopers in armor getting taken out by the blind guy with a stick. It's now pretty much official that the cosplay armor is cannon and provides zero protection. I think in Obi-One one of them gets knocked out by a barefist punch.

The Mandalorian makes the Stormtroopers (and Scout troopers) look more stupid than anything previously seen.
I laughed so hard when those scout troopers went riding down the hill in Mando and then crashed all on their own. What a joke they've become. Not very compelling when your main fighting force is essentially useless.

To me it started with Rogue 1 when a blind guy with a staff beat up an entire squad; which fans thought was a 'cool' scene. There's a reason why Jedi Knights use lightsabers and not traditional swords because if melee combat is your preference, you would need your weapon to be other-worldly and you yourself would need enhanced abilities if you're going to face off against well armored troops who are equipped with ranged weaponry. That's why it was also dumb when maz gave finn the lightsaber and told him to go fight with it. He'd should've been killed by the first enemy he encountered.

So my question today for everyone is.

When did Luke's lightsaber officially become the "Hero" version? The "V3" seemed to be the official saber for awhile. The toys were modeled after that one. It was used often in video games. Like the Jedi Outcast/Academy the old Pandemic Battlefronts. It was in the Visual Dictionary. But at some point the "Hero" lightsaber kinda took over. Was it Master Replicas that got that change happening when they made their version?

I don't know when, the change became commonplace, but I've always pictured Lucas, Marquand, and editors splicing footage together in the dark room and when they got to the shot of Vader talking about how Luke constructed a new lightsaber they all realized that the "new" saber Prowse was holding looked like Luke found it in a garbage dump. So they had the prop guy whip up the hero and shot it with one of them wearing black gloves.

I have no idea what happened, but that's how I picture it. Realistically, the hero makes the most sense and they should've shot with it, but didn't think of it until after primary shooting.

Yeah that's probably how it happened for the film. But the prop itself doesn't get recognized as THE Luke Skywalker lightsaber for many years. All through the 90s and early 2000s. It's the V3.

For instance the Kenner/Hasbro lightsaber used the V3 as the inspiration.

The lightsaber icon for the classic Battlefront 2 also is the V3.

And in the Visual Dictionary.

I'm trying to think of when I first saw the "Hero" lightsaber. I think it was probably the Master Replicas in some catalog.

The book "From Star Wars to Indiana Jones: The Best of the Lucasfilm Archives" featured both and its from 1995.

So I may have found something. It looks like Hasbro's first take on the "Hero" saber was their Ultimate FX Lightsaber. Coming out in 2010, I believe, going off the logo. Interestingly, during 2010’s Star Wars celebration, was the first time fans got to see the deleted "Cave Build" scene. Possibly cementing the "Hero" as "canonical" version of Luke's lightsaber. (Though the DICE/EA Battlefronts use a Master Replicas V2)

Wouldn't it be weird that if (in-universe), Luke would routinely swap out his saber control box/emitter/pommel as he saw fit between adventures?

Like a marksman changing out a rifle grip/stock/scope/barrel/suppressor tip? So that all of these variants could be explained in-universe?

That would make sense. The only time I remember, in the old EU, where Luke changed up his equipment, was he built a shoto lightsaber to fight Lumiya as an off hand weapon to catch her whip.

Sort of. If each variant appeared in only one film or show. But ROTJ alone has at least 6 different versions of the lightsaber. (Though 5 props) Two of them were hero sabers. It's funny, because the V3, that for years was THE Luke lightsaber, didn't even appear in the film that way. It was repainted to match the repainted "Yuma" stunt.

It's funny. Some of the criticism I and others have leveled at The Mandalorian. Is that it feels like Dave and Jon are just playing with their toys. Well....

“We're fortunate, you know,” Filoni tells StarWars.com. “Between Jon and I, we get along like we're playing with our old Kenner toys.”

Lol
