This can't help but dance right over the "no religion" line, but yeah -- fearmongering from people who don't actually understand the things they're talking about. Like the "Satanic Panic" about D&D back in the '80s and '90s. Most of the Force comes form Zen Buddhism, with a few bits from elsewhere, and the "May the Force be with you" is such a strong echo of a certain religious call-and-response thing that my friend who was raised Catholic can't help but reflexively respond, "And also with you". Occult means "hidden". There is nothing hidden about Star Wars' roots, and ain't none of it from witchcraft or other things ignorant types mean when they say "occult".
