I like Watchmen the comic. A lot of people -- including Snyder -- miss the point of it, though. This is apparent in what he changed for the movie, as well as stuff he didn't include at all.
300 is awesome because it's supposed be utterly ridonkulous over-the-top. It perfectly faithfully captures the comic and is, basically, the story being told about the Spartan defense of the pass afterward -- magnifying and exaggerating the heroics out of all semblance of reality. That's about the only one I give Snyder credit for getting right.
Man of Steel is pretty much the hero version of Joker -- Clark has almost no agency in it. He doesn't become a hero because Earth-dad tells him not to. Then he becomes a hero because Krypton-dad tells him to. Then he meets a pretty girl and all his heroing for the rest of this film and the next are because of her. Watch them again (if you can) and you'll see -- about the only time he stirs himself to act is when Lois is in danger. Superman Returns' Superman took pains to prevent innocents from being hurt by the crap blowing up around them. MoS' Superman did not. He's a selfish, whiny, petulant jerk -- and a moron, too, BTW. Wonder Woman was right there in BvS. Why didn't she take the spear to kill Doomsday? It wouldn't have done a thing to her.
My Star Wars fondness is despite the flaws. All through. I am seeking to address as many of those as I can in my Massive Rewrite of Doom™, but in spite of problems I see going all the way back to the original, I love Star Wars in general, and a lot more moments than not in particular. Even AOTC, even TLJ. If more quality models were out (*cough*Bandai*cough*) for the PT and ST eras, I'd have more of them. As grateful as I am for all my TIEs and my Y-Wing and my (FINALLY!!!eleventy) 1:72 B-Wing, I want Z-95s and actual non-box-scale TIE Silencer and ARC-170, and a Starfortress and the Ghost and so forth. The earliest (in-universe) film-related prop I have is a Battle Droid blaster. The latest (so far) is a Resistance pilot helmet. Expand that to ancillary material and that range expands to 3,000 years before the films to 100 years after.
