You don’t like watchmen!! You MONSTER!! ;)

Naaah I agree with ya on mostly all you’ve said, except I love watchmen

I was just curious your taste in films.

I'm not even sure I can put my finger on what my taste in film is. I just know that I've come to a point where there is something almost instinctive inside me that tells me I like a film or not. Its like looking at photo or a painting or something. You don't always know why, but you just know the moment you see it, that you like it. Something speaks to you.

I like Watchmen the comic. A lot of people -- including Snyder -- miss the point of it, though. This is apparent in what he changed for the movie, as well as stuff he didn't include at all.

300 is awesome because it's supposed be utterly ridonkulous over-the-top. It perfectly faithfully captures the comic and is, basically, the story being told about the Spartan defense of the pass afterward -- magnifying and exaggerating the heroics out of all semblance of reality. That's about the only one I give Snyder credit for getting right.

Man of Steel is pretty much the hero version of Joker -- Clark has almost no agency in it. He doesn't become a hero because Earth-dad tells him not to. Then he becomes a hero because Krypton-dad tells him to. Then he meets a pretty girl and all his heroing for the rest of this film and the next are because of her. Watch them again (if you can) and you'll see -- about the only time he stirs himself to act is when Lois is in danger. Superman Returns' Superman took pains to prevent innocents from being hurt by the crap blowing up around them. MoS' Superman did not. He's a selfish, whiny, petulant jerk -- and a moron, too, BTW. Wonder Woman was right there in BvS. Why didn't she take the spear to kill Doomsday? It wouldn't have done a thing to her.

My Star Wars fondness is despite the flaws. All through. I am seeking to address as many of those as I can in my Massive Rewrite of Doom™, but in spite of problems I see going all the way back to the original, I love Star Wars in general, and a lot more moments than not in particular. Even AOTC, even TLJ. If more quality models were out (*cough*Bandai*cough*) for the PT and ST eras, I'd have more of them. As grateful as I am for all my TIEs and my Y-Wing and my (FINALLY!!!eleventy) 1:72 B-Wing, I want Z-95s and actual non-box-scale TIE Silencer and ARC-170, and a Starfortress and the Ghost and so forth. The earliest (in-universe) film-related prop I have is a Battle Droid blaster. The latest (so far) is a Resistance pilot helmet. Expand that to ancillary material and that range expands to 3,000 years before the films to 100 years after.

This is precisely my initial reaction to TLJ. Then upon further reflection I was able to pin down what it was I didn't like. But yeah sometimes you just can't always place what it is you don't like, you just know something doesn't sit right.

I have a few costume pieces that are PT era from when my daughter was 6 and really into those films. (I'll never get rid of the matching Jedi belts my wife and I have!) Otherwise the few things I have are OT except my custom saber mag lite for work.
We had to downsize when we moved a few years ago and my daughter divested herself of all her prequel toys and memorabilia (even the tiger striped Gunship, which I loved). She said she had outgrown the PT (at 13  ). I had to rescue the PT and SE-OT DVD sets from the give away pile. She's still ticked off about what the ST did to her first childhood crush. Poor kid will probably join the Sith after her disillusionment!;)

I only have OT Era stuff. I used to have some PT stuff but I downsized my collection to just the OT. The only official merchandise I have are the DVD'S and a few books. Everything else I made or purchased from other fan makers.

I don't know if Lucas really told him the Force is just running everything. Why would the Jedi even exist? There's no reason for anyone to do anything because the Force will just make it all happen.
Between Filoni and Lucas, I have a feeling Freddie knows what he's talking about. The Force is literally described as controlling everything.

Mmmm maybe it's the Force works though people, like the Jedi. Maybe the reason they exist is because of the Force?

Or maybe, just maybe... it's a plot device to tell a story about personal growth, adventure and the value of sacrifice. Maybe the concept has shifted and changed over almost half a century in the view of the author depending on his stage in life. Or maybe it's just whatever a particular audience member wants it to be in order to enjoy the story they're digesting at the time. :) (y)

“Lord of the Rings is a story about land wizards made for children”

Do we see just how goddamn stupid and disingenuous that argument is yet? I don’t understand why this garbage argument continues to float around and is always used as some sort of final Ace-in-the-hole standing when all other excuses fail..
Also why are we making the excuse that children aren’t smart enough to notice massive errors in film/writing? Do we even want to make film/writing that way??

Actually The Lord of the Rings is more about Sauron. He is the Lord of the rings.
