Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build - COMPLETE!

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Thanks Murdoch. I'm starting to sweat on the deadline to be honest, but I think now that I have the coating method sussed it should all start falling into place...Now I need to choose paints! I'm waiting for the new trailer to drop today to see if there is any new info on that front :D

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

that body deadener looks like its giving a fantastic finish.
maybe i should have tried it lol.

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Heh, well I'm only really flying by the seat of my pants with regards to using it mate. It's far from a thoroughly tested and proven method so we'll see how it goes.

Update:
Finished off the left shin last night and traced and cut out the pieces for the right that I will start tonight. I coated the helmet this morning before I came to work (and was silently screaming with horror internally the entire time because I didn't want to screw it up...) and I think it came out ok. I'll take a pic tonight after I get home when hopefully it's a bit more dry. Going to print out the boot files today and once the second shin is finished, I just have the gloves and boots left to go...And the cannon, which I'm leaving until last I think...

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Great Job man! it looks AWESOME!!

I hope that my second attempt at this after this my current IP is done, it will look just as good.

What type of foam are u using?

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

It's 10mm thick dual density (hence the two colours) camping mats that I get for $8 each from Kmart here in Australia lol. Thus far it has met my needs, but I'll look into trying out some of those antifatigue mats at some point in the future just to see how they perform.

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Sorry for the double post so close together, but here is the pic of the helmet that I promised, and also the second shin that I made up tonight :D. Only boots, gloves and cannon left to go! Picking up some more deadener on Thursday after work (first can is almost empty) as well as some more plastic filler primer and might shop for some paint while I'm there so I can get stuck into making this bad boy colourful :D!

I also need to remove the faceplate now that the helmet has been covered, and hope like hell that the coating helps it hold it's shape well lol.

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Thanks mate.

Put some filler primer on the shoulders this morning before I went to work and will be starting on either the gloves or the boots tonight...Probably the gloves to be honest. Unfortunately I forgot to bring the shoulders inside the house before I left for work, and after weeks of 30+ degree Aussie summer heat, today it's decided to start raining apparently...REALLY hoping they don't get too wet...

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Update timez! Tonight I added the 'gun rail' parts of the forearms, and they're currently drying after their first coat of PVA. Also went shopping on the way home and picked up what I needed for the electronics, as well as more deadener, adhesion promoter, filler primer and I got some paint as well. I think I got the colours pretty damn close, or at least as close as I could find, what do you guys/gals think?

The hands are on the go at the moment. They've been traced out, ready to be cut and put together, hoping to start and get as much of that done as I can tomorrow night :D

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Thanks SDUK :D

So I coated the biceps this morning and plan on coating the forearms tonight when I get home from work if there's enough light left. Then tonights agenda is to cut the faceplate from the helmet (CAREFULLY!!!!!) and attach the magnets ready for priming etc tomorrow and then to start on building the hands, hoping to get at least one, maybe both done tonight. Tomorrow I'm hoping to prime the biceps, forearms and hopefully helmet, and possibly lay down the silver undercoat on to the shoulders to see how that comes up :D.

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Can't wait to see the final result it looks very good!

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Just a quick post with pics of the helmet now I have the faceplate off and the magnets installed :D. It sits slightly askew at the top, but not far enough to be noticeable at a distance, so I think it will look pretty good!

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Looking good man.

Just started the boots and finished one set of fingers for the right hand today.

Hopefully i finish up the boots and maybe both forearms by the end of the weekend.

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

@Ladman: Nice mate. I haven't done the boots yet, they're next lol.

So, today's update. I have primed the helmet, biceps and forearms (after this pic was taken) and chucked the silver undercoat on the shoulders. Tomorrow the other pieces get their silvery goodness :D. Also made up one whole hand, and the palm of the second. Tomorrow I'll make up the finger pieces for the second hand, and if I have time, start on the boots! After that, the only piece left to make is the cannon!

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Looks great! How did you like your results with the silver?

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Yeah I think they came out pretty well :D That is the one 'compromise' I've made with the paint so far. It's a cheap enamel paint from my local hardware store, it's what I used for the silver on my Cap Shield, but I know it comes put pretty well, so I'll stick with that for my silver, and just use the automotive paint for the blue and red.

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

This foam work is blowing my mind! !!
The details going into the hands and helmet are amazing. ..and now seeing the paint going on really gives it that solid look!
IRONLEOMAN is currently building my patriot. ..if only I wasnt so busy and had the time to do it myself. .the sence of satisfaction must be awesome! !
If comes out anything like this I will be very happy..
Looking forward to the next update on the paintwork. ..

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Thanks Cyclops :).

I didn't have a lot of time to work on it today, so all I managed to do was silver up the helmet and biceps, and I made up the left hand fingers except for the finger tips. But I stopped at the local hardware store and picked up some more silver paint and some water tubing to use on the gloves in the finger joins :D.

Tomorrow I will attempt to finish the hands and start on the boots. Then all that's left is the cannon, getting it all coated/painted up and the electronics!
