Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build - COMPLETE!

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

The first helmet I made was the largest one, which was scaled factor 0.941. Then I made the smallest one which was the default scale which is 0.808, the middle one that fits was 0.8725, halfway between the other two lol.

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Great, thank you! I'm trying to minimize the number of parts I have to remake, so the more reference, the better!

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

No worries mate, but if you manage to get through the armour without having to resize things, you're very lucky lol. That being said, the helmet is the only piece thus far that I've had to re-do.

Started tracing out parts for the thighs last night, hoping to have them and maybe the shins done by the end of the week. Really need to start coating pieces soon or I will run out of time before the convention, so hopefully in a few days I'll have some progress pics of the coating and what sort of finish I can get on the pieces...Now I just have to push myself into making a decision on the colour scheme lol...

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

That's the plan lol. I think, as long as I knuckle down and nothing unforseen happens I should be able to get it finished in time :D If not, it'll definitely be finished by the time the IM3 premier rolls around.

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Thanks mate. I started burning lines into some of the pieces last night, so I think I'll start glue coating the shoulders tonight and I'm hoping to also get the first thigh put together. Hopefully by this weekend I'll manage to get some pieces to the primer stage :D.

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Update time!

So got the first thigh finished up tonight, start on the second one tomorrow. Needed to pad the inside again to get the stupid thing to stay up. Also here are some "thus far" shots that I've been promising for a while lol. Don't mind the fact the helmet is falling down, I haven't padded it yet and I had to mod the neck after these shots so it didn't push the helmet forward. (In case anyone is wondering, I removed the top most part of the neck that sits at a 45ish degree angle to the rest of neck.)

PS: Yes I am wearing Justice League boxers :p

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Crap. You are working rather quickly my friend. It's looking sweet. Need more pics though side & back profile please.Nice FN work man...GM

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Thanks Murdoch, it's slowly coming together. It'll look better with the arm pieces attached at the elbows (hence the little white chicago screws you can see in the pic, I just didn't bother to attach them) and once I work out how I'm going to get the upper and lower torso to fit together and stay in the same place lol. As you can see in the pics they have a habit of getting out of alignment with minimal movement.

As for further pics, next time I decide to chuck it on for a test fit I'll get some of the back and sides for you mate :)

Tonight is second thigh making and continuing to glue coat the biceps and then onto other pieces. Also going to make up a small test piece with the brush on deadener to see what sort of finish I can get :D

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

ITs coming along nice man. Im just finishing up the right shoulder, then its on to my forearms. I just got my right hand back from printing. It looks sweet. ill post some pics later. Just waiting for all the electronics to come in i ordered and had set up for me from therealtonystark.

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Thanks Ladman :D. Your's is coming along great as well!

So I've finished up the second thigh the other day and I'm starting on putting together the left shin. I also took the plunge and started coating the shoulder pieces (Due to the fact they're relatively easy to make, so if I screw them up it won't take as long to redo them lol) and the result was very encouraging. I ended up giving away the brush on deadener as it brushed on like Vegemite with small gravel in it (Aussies will understand) and left a pretty bad surface when compared to the aerosolised version. The pics attached are only two coats of straight PVA and one coat of the aerosol auto body deadener. I think they look awesome!

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Agreed! surface not so bad at all. And, as I assume you can appreciate, most Americans have no idea what Vegemite is (outside of Police fans). I appreciate it from work, but then again Americans are just now getting marketed Nutella (this was unknown outside of import stores until about a year ago)
You are doing great! Kudos to the lady for posting here too (my girlfriend loved that)

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

I only took notice because of her scissor suggestion, and recognized the costume in the avatar picture. Without my lady, I would not know what the difference was between 'paper' scissors, 'fabric' scissors, 'trim' scissors, 'hem' scissors, etc..... I only understood 'sharp', and 'you ruined these' before her free violent lessons.

That sounds hauntingly familiar...I get similar "lessons". Such as the one yesterday about not accidentally dropping PVA on the dining room table in the space that she wants to put down her dress material...

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Not to run off topic too much, but my lady is a 'conscientious objector'. She watches my nonsense, and usually just lets it go. There are occasions, however, where I think she determines enough is enough. I have been told to get rid of Optimus Prime (he is 3 meters tall). She told me 'TOO MANY ROBOTS IN THE BEDROOM' when I asked her how dinner was yesterday. I told her they're harmless. She told me she thought I was harmless too. I asked her if I could build her something. She said a giraffe. I said robot giraffe. She said no.

LOL! I must say I'm fairly lucky considering my lady is into Cosplay as well so we're basically as bad as each other. I complain that there is fabric everywhere and pattern pieces strewn across the house, and she complains about my foam everywhere and that my glue smells, but we are quite happy to let each other potter along.

As of now about 2/3s of the left shin is constructed. Should finish that off tomorrow and start on the right. I also bought a pair of cheap canvas slip on shoes today that I'm going to build the boots around to make them wearable, and picked up some 'cheap' (Still AUD$60, but better than $160 for top of the line stuff) compression sports clothing to use as an undersuit. And with that, I do believe it's bed time!

Re: Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build

Man your build is coming together nicely, a sweet looking build my friend...GM
