Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit Pics Updated 06/25/2013!! WIP

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Thanks, Tyler and Steve. Once my suit is here with the new helmet, I'll definitely have to mod the eyelights so I don't get gashed in the face. LOL
I'll be paranoid as hell going through like like I was insanely paranoid when drilling holes into my Fett jetpack to fit the proper harness to it, but I'll do it! I won't be Iron Man if I can't see where the heck I'm going or if I take the helmet off and my face is bleeding! LOL

I'm curious on what the mods you'll need to do and how they'll turn out, Tyler! Leslee's suits have a way of triggering my special "Iron Man OCD", so keeping watch over your assembly thread with as many pics as you post and watching Steve work on all his stuff will have to do until I get my suit. LOL

Thanks again, guys!!!! I think I'm almost as excited as you guys are when you do this stuff.

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

loving your progress man :)

Thanks kcr

And Jay you're very welcome, I hope to have some pictures up by late afternoon on the specialized joints going into the legs and if the legs aren't done by tonight, they will be tomorrow night and put up either saturday or sunday.. I'm currently waiting for my mannequin to show up so I can toss the abdomen on it.. the chest piece so I can start on the arc reactor and the shoulder bells, then it will be just a matter of throwing the legs on and I'll have a almost finished Iron Man standing in my living room haha

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Sorry to bring this up again, but what size is that ab section when fitted together? It looks really small! I know thissection is bigger on these new suits than the War machine that Steve has, but I'd really like a definitive waist size on this...looking great by the way.

Thanks guys.

Probably better than standing in your bedroom. I doubt my wife would appreciate having that thing staring at her all night! :facepalm LOL
Here's an idea for a set of pictures! Is there any way you could take shots of exactly where the clips in the pieces are and how they attach to the harness strapping system? Perhaps how things like the forearms attach to the biceps, then biceps attach to chest piece, and how the shoulders attach and to what? :eek

Can't wait to see it together on the mannequin AND on you!

Hey there Craig, I will pull the abdomen sections out and measure them tonight for you... If I had to guess right now I'd say the max would be a 36 inch waist.

Jay, funny you should bring up the bedroom comment lmao... I actually asked my wife if I could have it in there as a "night light" she turned me down immediately, told me she'd think someone was watching us sleep... women :\ lol. As for the clips there really arent many to be honest... but I will take pictures of the ones that are... though once I get done putting the kit together they're be none as it sits better on a human form then a harness imho. The shoulders will connect to the upper arm via a nylon webbing strap. As for the mannequin, the seller contacted me and told me he regrettably was out of the style I wanted so I ordered a new one... wait till you guys see it :D

willing to sell your gloves?

No I am not dxrob, sorry, I actually am working on assembling them for my wife... They'll go nicely with my first Iron Man Mark IV/VI helmet that I purchased from Leslee... maybe it'll be her rescue armor :p

I have an appointment at 3 or 4 pm to fit my leg pieces and the arm pieces for the suit, I will take pictures of the prosthetic joints I am using in the legs and possibly the joint mechanism that I will be using in the arms as well... in the next few days I hope to trim down my neck collar to fit more comfortably and maybe even work on cutting the led eyes out of the helmet and re-positioning those so they do not cut into my face.

As soon as the mannequin shows up I will toss the abs, chest, arms, shoulder bells, collar and helm on for a half finished look. Due to the stiffness of the mannequin I will have to cut the feet off just to get the leg armor on and I plan on mounting it to a removable stand with 1.5" round or square stock going into the legs. Again pictures tonight of Craig and Jay's requests as well as some legwork.

Have a good one everybody!!

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Awesome!!! It looks much smaller than that on the pics...I'm a 36 right now and getting smaller hahahahaha mega, cheers bud :0)

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Yeah. im like just under a 38 right now not quite a 36 and I am just shy of getting the ab section to seal so I have a bit more weight to lose... that's what the mannequin is for.. I have a picture of the joint system I'm using on the legs and arms but it's late and I'm tired so I'll be throwing that up tomorrow with the waist and hip measurements. Off to bed with me though lol, take care!!

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Oh I'm here, sorry about keeping you on the edge, as well as anyone else, here we go... I apologize ahead of time for the crappy cell phone pictures.. I'll upload some better decent pictures later. This is the hinge that I decided to go with... flexibility and strength... I plan on wrapping the nylon straps with silicone tape and then dipping them in liquid plastic and giving them a nice silver paint-job to blend in with the Poly-urethane rubber covers.

This hinge system is made up of aluminum bars riveted into a nylon strap... I was going to fiberglass them in but went with a epoxy job instead... trust me they are not coming out lol :D

Here we have the hinges installed on the left leg, I have tried it on and it fits great, it still needs a little work though, once my mannequin shows up tomorrow I can start throwing pieces on it and adjusting everything for the right fit on myself

Here is a shot from the back

Next we have the right arm, the same method for attaching a hinge as I did on the legs, this will allow me many different poses with the suit on. With this method... I have no boundaries when it comes to flexibilty.

Next we have the boots covers with the boots inside, I had to grind these down unfortunately in the front tongue, and the back top heel... I couldn't get my size 14 feet inside no matter how hard I tried :( I asked Steve what he thought of the idea and he advised me not to... sorry Steve... I was careful and it worked... just need to round off the edges prime and re-paint... the benefit is I can no get my feet inside, and remove them with ease.

Lastly for tonight, here is the bottom of the cover and boot... there's a lip on the back bottom of Leslee's boot covers... to avoid wear and tear on the boot I confirmed with Steve about adding a piece of rubber to that area... it looks great and does it's job...

Questions?? Comments??

More pictures to come tomorrow night of my wearing the left leg, right arm and helmet... suit almost looks completed, though it feels as if I have MORE work to do on it :lol Again mannequin should be here tomorrow.. I will be tossing the abs... chest, neck piece, helmet, arms wrists and shoulders to that... still working on the small gloves... Night everyone!!

Oh and I have the waist measurements, almost forgot... hips of the abdomen piece come out at 36" and the waist is about a 38-39.

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

EXCELLENT shots and post! Thanks for sharing all of your progress. It's giving me a lot of great ideas to go with when it's time for my suit, especially in terms of all the hinges with all of the joints, to make them work great and work great. Can't wait to see more!!

Thanks, dude!!

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Thanks guys, every morning I wake up I think of a new way to improve the suit and how everything attaches, I'm extremely excited for this mannequin to show up, I'll have the pieces on it tonight with some pictures tomorrow sometime hopefully. I'm sure as soon as I see stuff on the mannequin I'll come up with even more ideas for the suit to sit.

Jay I believe you asked about how the parts clip into the body harness... there really isn't much of a point to use the harness if you're going to be installing joints in the arms and legs... The harness I believe was mainly intended to pull the suit together for those that only rely on nylon straps and clips to hold it all together. Unfortunately, I've found out that after installing hinges and the weight of the pieces are too heavy for the body harness. I also cut the nylon straps out in the legs to be able to install the hinges. I am thinking about somehow anchoring the leg pieces to the harness though to help give it some support and I'll include those pictures if I ever go witht hat route.

The arms however, fit nicely without attaching to the harness, I am thinking about attaching them anyways so I know they will not move around and that will be done by adding another bracket and strap to each arm around the armpit area and then attaching to the harness itself, again I will post those pictures when that time comes.

This weekend I plan on spending time cutting the eye lenses out and repositioning those so they're not jabbing into my face, hopefully my work will give you ideas and guide you if you haven't done so on your already ;)

Mannequin again shows up today so I'll throw a pic up of that and fill you all in on my plans of altering that to display the Iron Man Mark VI kit.

Anyways, I have to get to work... rain is 6 hours away and I need allt he time I can get to drill beans. Have a great day everyone!!

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Unfortunately the mannequin is a couple days late.. comes Monday.. good news though.. I talked to a good friend of mine, he's 6'4 perfect build for the suit... he's offered to be my "living mannequin" we're suiting him up soon, everything but the gloves.. tho moment I've been waiting for lol

everything looks great.. and thanks for all the info you have up in this thread.. may i ask how tall are you again? i'm a skinny 5'11 so i think the suit might be too large for me.. what do you think?

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Thanks, I try to be very detailed when explaining what is being done to the suit to get a great quality fit. I am 6'5... I believe the suit was intended for 6'1 and above... you could always shoot a message to Leslee and ask him what he thinks about your height fitting into the suit... Everything sits perfectly on me as it is... I've only made a few slight alterations to pieces of the suit that are not very noticeable. I'd say the cutoff for height on it would probably be 6' even... but that's just my opinion :\

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Any pics of the whole suit on? I'm thinking of ordering from masked rider but I really want to see the whole thing put together.

It's looking awesome btw.

Working on that.. I was supposed to have a friend stop by today to try it on for me.. he canceled to go "tubing".. I'd think people wouldn't pass up an offer at wearing a movie quality suit.. but I guess I'm wrong. My mannequin comes tomorrow afternoon so the top half of the suit will be on that.
