Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit Pics Updated 06/25/2013!! WIP

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

hi buddy.. so when are we expecting a full armor shot of the suit?? =D

Probably a month or so.. I'm looking at mid-June possibly.. I picked up the material for my leg and arm joints today and my new gloves should be in next week sometime, just need to trim and finish em prime em and paint em and install the new lights the arc reactors should be here tomorrow and possibly completed mid next week alongside the arms and legs and gloves/wrists by next weekend. If everything stays on schedule there that should give me enough time to trim the neck piece and get a final proper fit the first full week of june and the final full view of the armor on me by June 11-12. *fingers crossed* of course :p

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Do you plan to take more pictures of the parts in individual detail? I know for me, the more I see the better it is. Even if it DOES trigger my OCD into overdrive. LOL

Anything and everything! Uhhhh how about how the pieces clip into the strapping system? I don't think we've ever seen the details on how this whole amazing system works?
Would you be ok with one more measurement too? Chest from collar to ribs?

Thanks, dude!!!

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

hey buddy, can i ask you for a favor.. judging from the pics, leslee lots like he cut opening for the neck seal in the back directly through the middle.. How does it connect together and does it look clean once it is connected? If you are not too busy can you post up a pic..

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

I'm interested to find out your opinion on the one piece shoes, and also the strapping system :)

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Giving this a little bump. No activity in a few days...
I haven't had the chance to post pics yet or any review, but my MaskedRider Mark IV / VI helmet came the other day (birthday present from my wife) and I've been wondering just how high up the neck seal in the suit goes - like to the bottom back of the helmet or is there a gap - and if it gives a nice sealed look to it?
Hope everything's going cool!

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Yeah sorry been busy with family things lately, I am also buying materials to start putting everything together.. I'll take some more detailed pictures of the neck seal tonight and post em when I get home from work. the seal goes up into the helmet a good 1.5 inch although it's so tight around the entire neck that I will have to cut some of the front part out and even then it won't seal completely in the back.. pics to come

Great armour and I think you're well under way in putting all together... I was one of the first ones to convert Leslee's armour into something wearable and
you always learn as you go. Leslee again out did himself!!! You'll have to keep adjusting things as you wear it. At fist I couldn't even walk up a flight of stairs... Keep up the good work!!

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Sorry on the late measurements of the suit guys, I'm a 5th generation farmer or so and things are really hectic this season lol, we've had a lot of rain and it's been preventing us from getting into the fields. Anyhow, I measured the chest piece, collar to the ribs is 11 inches, I'm at 6'5 and I'm going to have plenty of room for the waist armor to ride up inside the chest cavity. As for the neck piece I'm including a picture of where im going to have to trim it in the front and about how much it is left open in the back when it is around my neck. Let's just say this thing is very uncomfortable.... I'd have to be a Kaminoan to enjoy wearing this thing :\

and projected trimming

It really doesn't have a sealed look to it :( But I hope to correct that with some snap fasteners and other material... that will be a on going work in progress even after everything else is done. As for the boots... they are one piece you will have to buy boots to go with it. Steve pointed me in the right direction and I picked up a pair of black "born julian" ankle boots.. I'll take pictures of the those for you later tonight and with them outside of the boots as well.

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

thanks for posting up pictures.. Seems like so much work to get everything put on. Seems like you have to "macgyver" a lot of pieces. Can't wait to see more pictures. Thanks man

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

yup you're welcome, and it's true you really do have to put a lot of thought into how the pieces go together and the best way to get them there... tomorrow night I will have the abdomen pieces done and fastened together... starting on it tonight... my resources are 1.5" black velcro and snap fasteners lol. Pictures tomorrow night!!

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

So I decided to not go with any snap fasteners on the abdomen pieces as the velcro did a fantastic job sealing the two pieces together... I wish I could take pictures of me wearing it. However I need to shed about 15-20 more lbs before that will be possible. I will post pictures tonight of the velcro on the pieces... of them together as well.. Tomorrow afternoon I am going to be working on installing the hinges on my leg pieces and my arm pieces and fiberglassing those in. Hopefully tomorrow night I can get pictures of them up as well. Tonight with the pictures of the abdomen will be the pictures of the items I am using for the hinges. I really am working hard to lose weight as fast as I can to get into the suit when it is completed however I will be purchasing a mannequin in the next few days so I can suit that up and get some pictures of my detailed WIP so you'll all see how it will fit on an actual human-like form... stay tuned for the abdomen pieces and the parts list for the joints tonight.. Thank you!!

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Awesome!! Thanks, dude. Really appreciate as many detailed images as possible. Really helps me know what I'm in store for when my suit comes. :)

Question on the helmet to you and even Steve or anyone else who has one of Leslees amazing gear, do you find the light boxes for the eyes to be in the way? The white ones behind the black box eye lenses, I mean. I'm considering gently removing them and modifying the LED strip to sit closer to the eye-light-lense so I can not just see better but not have the white boxes cut into my face. Or are those boxes just on this helmet because it's meant to be more of a display piece since when ordering a suit, you order a helmet to go with it?

Please forgive the odd tint to the image. Didn't take the pic in the best light, but you can see the big white boxes I'm talking about that house the LED light strip.

Thoughts?

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Hey there J... they do cut into my face as well :( The boxes on this new helmet are setup quite differently then my old helmet.. I may have to remove them as well and re-adjust how they sit... then glue them back on.. that was one thing I noticed that was different from the first Mark IV/VI helmet I bought from Leslee. I will post pictures of how the old faceplate's eyes are attached as well.. that faceplate was much more comfortable. I didn't get any pictures taken tonight and thrown up but I will take a few tomorrow morning and add them to the ones that will be going up tomorrow night with the joints installed in the legs... Hope this answers your question.. Let me know if you need to know anything else.

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

So here are the abdomen pieces put together with velcro the velcro was 2" wide black and as I put it on the torso I trimmed it down to look better.

Here are my materials for the joint hinges in my legs and arms... a fiberglass repair kit is all you need for a small job like this.. I believe mine ran me $27 though I have seen them cheaper but this was local bought. Eight quarter inch thread bolts with plastic washers and lock nuts so they don't come apart. The aluminum bars are four feet long each so I know I have plenty if I screw up on a cut and they are approximately 16th of an inch thick.

More pictures to come tonight of the joints installed stay tuned!!

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Hey there everybody, so I said I was going to have pics but unfortunately I do not. I asked my prosthetist doctor to assist me with the right leg joint due to my right leg below the knee amputation and the center knee pivot being off... He's on board with me and helping however he can. He actually had a better hinge to install inside the legs that they use to use in prosthetic limbs... these hinges are extremely strong and not bulky, I wish I had taken a picture of all of them to share with you. I go back Friday afternoon to work on them with him.

J, I took pictures of my old helmet from Leslee and the new helmet that came with the suit... these are both the same model but the way the leds and eye boxes were installed is different. The faceplate on the left is the new one and the right is the old. It appears on the old one that Leslee installed the light strips on top of the eye lens which gives the entire setup of the helmet a more comfortable fit after you add padding to the helmet to cushion your head. On the new helmet, he installed the lights in the back and installed a bigger box inside the helmet... so they push right up against your forehead/eyebrows, I'll agree with you, it is extremely uncomfortable.. Here's what I plan to do. I plan on taking my dremel tool and cutting the boxes out.. removing the top white strip and then flipping the box so the led strip sits on top of the eye lens... the light will still shine down onto the lens and it may give a less brighten view, but in all it will be the same exact setup that his original mark IV/VI Helmets had and fit more comfortably on my noggin. :D Let me know if you need any other pointers.

Hi J,
Yeah the boxes that house the LED's have changed but not massively, if you can , very carefuly remove the bottom ledge of the box this will help . and then the back wall of the box that's nearest to your face trim it up slightly with a sanding wheel. Both of these jobs will give your face more room and then when your doe, paint the back box matt black on the outside, this will stop light bouncing back in your face.
