Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit Pics Updated 06/25/2013!! WIP

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Where did you screw the bolts for the thigh and leg piece? And what type of screw or bolts did you use? I bought myself nylon strap and aluminum bars but can't figure out on the screws.

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Hey there Hanzo, I didnt use any screws or bolts for the leg and thighs, I used the nylon straps and aluminum bars... I installed rivets in those to give it the pivot action. I'm working from home today so I'll toss a picture of that up to give you a closer look. I epoxied the bars into the thigh and leg and will be going over the epoxy with a strong layer of fiberglass just to make sure it holds.

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

Hey there everyone, I'm to the point where I'm probably going to call it quits updating this thread... I am at an all time low of putting work into this suit... my hinges just fell through on it and I'm feeling very un-motivated to complete this project.. I can't get responses from people on my neck piece work around, which goes to show this community is not very helpful or if they are it's just to a select few of people that they deem worthy to help. Anyways I'm not sure where this build is going... as far as I'm concerned I'm about to chuck it in the dumpster and throw in the towel... I wouldn't wish this much work on anyone... Masked Rider's suits are very complicated to put together you always have to be one step ahead and constantly thinking of how you're going to go about putting it altogether... but this was my first suit.. I was told when it arrived all I would have to do is make minor adjustments and suit up.. Nothing is minor.

This could be just a bad day or something but I seriously doubt that I'm going to continue working on this... nothing is ever panning out positively for me concerning this suit... Thanks for everything and taking a look at my thread... bye guys

Terribly sorry to hear this...cause I also bought the Masked Rider suit and I exactly know what your feeling...nothing comes together correctly. I hope one day you continue this project. I haven't given up yet, and for now I just want it up display in my room.

Woah! Hang on in there mate, take a break from it for now! Don't throw in the towel. ***** I've had to work on my masked rider suit for a year almost on and off to he it right and I'm still improving it even though I've worn it a good few times. Too many people think to can just get these out of the box and then wear them but that's not ever going to be the case. You take these suits on as a project even though they are painted, that doesn't mean they are ready to wear because everyone is of a different bud and height for starters.
Yeah there's a fair amount of skill that's needs and knowledge but there is help at hand. I've given you loads of help and links mate but even my time is stretched. Every single guy who bought a masked rider suit as been out my wa and I find it hard to keep up if I'm honest! I gave you Marks details about the neck but I know he's not getting involved in RPF stuff of late as he says he's not got the time and that's the truth just like me he's become too busy. I'm STILL working on my mk3 after 2.5 years as that's what it takes sometimes as fair enough it wasn't painted but don't throw your towel in Tyler , you've made Great progress! Take a short break and come back to it in a month . This is an amazing suit and it'll be worth it once it's done.
What else aside of the neck are you needing help with? What happened with the metal hinge bars?

Wow!
Well, I'm sorry to hear that you're at the point of giving up, but on the same token, I don't think Leslee purposely misled you or out and out lied. I mean, the guy modified the leg to help with your specific situation with the prosthetic. That's not the kind of thing a liar and someone who purposely misleads people would do, is it? When I spoke to him, he made it perfectly clear that unless you are of a certain height and measurements, that a degree of modifications are going to have to be made and those will be difficult seeing as it's hard rubber and fiberglass. The suit isn't an open the box, put it on, ready to roll. No suit is like that. My Boba Fett is from Bobamaker in the UK. It's made to my measurements and painted - one would think it's out of the box, put on wearable, but it's not. Even that, which was made to my measurements specifically, needed a fair amount of modifications in order to be wearable at all, not to mention the mods needed to make it wearable for the extended time needed for Trooping events.

Now I'm not criticizing you at all, and I feel terrible that you're having such problems with this, and are having a bad time overall, bad day specifically, but Leslee is a great guy and I would hate for him to be ridiculed or for anyone to insinuate that he's purposely misleading people, because he doesn't do that, at least in my experiences. As far as getting help and saying how nobody helps unless you're a specific select few, that's untrue too, man. Come on. Steve has been helping you as best as he can while having his busy life working, he just recently got married, he's got his War Machine he Troops with, he's in the 501st and Troops as Vader, he Troops as Batman, AND he's building his Iron Man Mark III suit too. But he's always there to help if you have a question, he's been here in this thread helping, and anyone else that you've asked for help, you have to give people the benefit of he doubt especially in this hobby and on a forum as busy as this. Some people come on here once a week, or once a month, or bi-monthly. But on the same token, nobody is obliged to help either.
Again, I'm in no way attacking, criticizing or slamming you. I can certainly appreciate the frustration and anger. You expected things to go much more differently than they are, and being your first suit, you're probably not prepared for what you have to deal with and do with a suit like this that is created to fit a very specific height and measurement. It's fiberglass and hard rubber - modifications won't be easy.

If I had mine, I would be more than happy to help you with yours as best as I could over the internet - probably Skype with you if you needed. If you need help, like Steve said, post exactly what's up, and even though I don't have my Iron Man yet, I'd be happy to try and help you figure out what needs to be done to get the suit wearable for you.

Either way, just breathe, step back, and come back with a fresh start!
Hope to see you back soon!

J

I have to heavily agree here , I held back with my last post as really you pissed me off with what you said as a whole Tyler . Leslee is a top bloke and helped so many out and is a personal friend of mine and after all the pointers I've given you .. Not good man, bad day yeah I get that and you've said you've had other problems but don't slam good people ! That will ruin his rep!
I'm still here and always will be but we all have real lives and are busy as hell I can tell you that!

I apologize, I didn't mean for it to be a slam against Leslee, I'm just saying they're complicated because this is my first build and I lack the knowledge and experience. Leslee has done a lot for me already and I hope when I get back on the project again (a night of sleep and better part of a morning changes minds) that I can continue to work with Leslee and get these kinks worked out. I'm currently trying to find a work around for the neck I've tried Mark and a guy that Matt (surrealstudios) has mentioned to me but no replies so I'm on my own there.

My metal joints need to be re-worked I dont think I can use those, I need something that acts as a joint but almost "glides" smoothly... maybe on a set track, I don't know, I have a couple ideas, one that I saw in a past thread but I can't remember who's so I don't dare post the picture as I'd rather not **** off anyone else as I already may have.

Well I'm off to clean out a furnace and then grab a heat gun and start chipping epoxy out of my thigh and lower leg pieces.

Bottom line with these builds is, no one should ever think they are going to be out of the box to wear, and while I know you didn't think that, I know for a fact you had no idea just how much time plus skill would be needed to get this ready!

Other than me being there several thousand miles from where I live, you're going to have to follow pictures and help via text.

Onc way to get smooth traction on the pivot point is to place a small thin plastic washer between the bolt and the metal bar, that will act as a buffer and make the thing slide like butter! It's the little things like that , that make all the difference, . it's not always time spent working on these things, it's time taken out thinking about how you're going to solve these problems, but in no way ever, rush it, it's not worth it!

Post up some pictures of your progress. and remember, those bars will not hold under stress until you've fiberglass backed them! Do not rely on the epoxy resin to hold them , that is simply to grab them while your glass over them. After which point , ideally you'll need a day for them to rest and set fully.

I got really frustrated the first week I received my suit also. I've gotten other PM from users that are having the same issues, and all of them are having issues with the knee joints. Robosteve is currently sending me more pictures so I can get a better understanding. I'll post pictures of mines and his when I'm done.

I looked back briefly and couldn't find the problem you are having with your neck piece?? I have one of Leslee's neck pieces that I use with my mark iv, I may be able to help you out......

There is no issue with the necks themselves, it's purely down to the wearer being too thick a neck to be comfortable in it. So a colour matching gap filler can be added at the rear . or a replacement neck.

Hanzo, if you look back at page 2 of this thread you'll see the pics I posted up of how and where I fiberglassed my thigh pieces inside with metal bars,
also here's a picture link to the type of metal bars you'll need.

Ahhh I see... I had that problem with mine also... The neck piece is a great piece. But it was entirely too long and thick to be comfortable for even a minute... I ended up cutting a great deal off of mine to make it a good length, I also ground out some of the innner layer of material to give a little room on the Inside, then I added a few small bits of foam to the front I side to push the neck piece foward, so that it will go into the helmet when I raised my head back up to normal legend after looking down..... My neck piece fully closes in the rear when I wear it, I simply Velcro or together to get a decent alignment...

Just finished my neck piece.. I used scissors to cut the top of the neck... worked pretty well.. exacto blade takes too long.. Then i velcro the inside of the bottom together and in the middle i got some long magnets so they keep the middle and top closed while being able to take off easily... Let me know if you guys need any help... Currently working on the hands and arms... anyone found a easily way to keep the hands closed?

I say everyone take a different part of the body and then we combine ideas.. =D let me know if u guys need some pictures.. The thigh sits well after i took a lot of foam and padded it on the inside.. I also hot glued some of the clips that was included so that it would connect to the body strap. Yes i also think the knee to shin part is the most annoying.. everything after that is easy peasy

Can I get the name of the bar and measurements please robosteve?

Sure Henzo, I just took a picture of them in their packet for you .

They should be found in any hardware store! Pre drilled Aluminum bars , roughly 5" long by 1/2" wide , 3mm deep. with up to four holes drilled in already.

Well Funn, this is what I'm going to use for my knee joint. Eboxy them than fiberglass'em in. Not sure how the movement or hinges will work. Robosteve? can you clarify for me and Funn about this?

It's late here in the UK, I'm going to draw you a 3d model diagram up tomorrow so it's perfectly clear.
