Iron Man Mark III (Dark Asylum)

Re: New iron man suit in the the works

Thanks, this is the kinda stuff I look forawrd to making sure this type of work has a good cause behind it I appreciate any one who builds props and costumes and artwork in general and puts it to good use makes something small like this have a huge impact on those that don't get to see things come together like this this project will be put to great use I'm making sure of that.

I truely appricate what the Troops do for us and they don't get near enough respect and appreciation they deserve so if to some agree this project is a small part in aiding them in any way glad to be a apart of it and for any of the troops that read this I say "THANKS" and my best wishes to you guys and girls and in your fight.

This is also a project I will be putting to good use with the Kids and terminally ill I'm a father myself and I know what big difference these small things have on their futures as well so, if you're going to do it do it for the right causes.

That is what I have been doing for years and why when I saw the original chance to get one of these I got in on it. Just waiting on you and Jason and like I told him - once I get to the hospitals, etc. I will be posting pictures back up to here for you to use. I did my tour and sat in those hospitals - I want to be able to give back a little hope and this will help with it. Again - nice job - anxious for it to arrive.

Re: New iron man suit in the the works

Hey DA -

If you get pics, and this goes to all Iron Man suit wearers -

If you go in to a hospital or childrens' home etc, please send me the pictures if you're able to. I am working on something w/The March of Dimes in the next upcoming months as well as the Make a Wish foundation.

You'd be surprised how many kids want to do something with a superhero for the day, but the agencies don't know where to go to find people.

If you'd be interested in this, shoot me a PM with "Heros' Cause" in the title with your info.

Re: New iron man suit in the the works

Your work is brilliant, very detailed pulls.

Can't wait to see more!

Re: New iron man suit in the the works

I'm still keeping an eye on this one...be much easier for me to assemble something like this in kit form than to try and make one from scratch in pepakura myself. It's looking really good, BTW!

Dark asylum how is things progressing along I'm sure you are working out whatever problems that has come up.

Thanks, well everything is done for the old suits but I've been graduating to and new custom suit so I've had to basically resculpt some parts for a custom fit and adding true details and using a new fashion of building I'll have a tutorial up on how it's done I imagine it will be a huge help to other prop builders on the RPF as well but I imagine you already knew all this.

That's a really cool artical and I hope every one else well read it if they haven't already. Nothing is impossible always neat how true science fiction becomes science fact, thanks for sharing this I appreciate it.

It's all based on what you enjoy more I think I grew building model kits as a kid so it's a project and style I've always been a fan of and the materials alone are better just for costume works I've never done pepakura before I've done simular templates and builds with sheet plastic for one of a kinds and wood work for forming molds so I can't tell you if it's better or not just what ever you'll be happiest with.

So needless to say I'm still working on things and after seeing Ironman 2 is a little more inspiring to work towards the Iron man stuff especially the Mark V helmet. But it's good to see the thread hasn't fallen too much even beyond my lack of posting just think the self bumping with miner post and no real updates is just pompous so I'll save it for something more worth while and I appreciate the interest and the following behind this project, thanks I appreciate it.

Re: New iron man suit in the the works

glad to hear things haven't fallen by the wayside, as you probably noticed by my PM's I'm very interested in this thread and the results and progress as it unfolds....

Same here....have a box full of finished and unfinished 1/24th and 1/25th scale model muscle cars in the basement here somewhere. Kits always worked best for me. I did enjoy mixing and matching the parts and modifying them, though.

Re: New iron man suit in the the works

Ok a friend of mine convenced me it was time to post something if anything just to keep people up to date so I have the sculpt 90% done on the Unibeam I kmow every one else buys the Arc reactors and use those but it's not accurate so I went with the unibeam the CGI suit has.

arc1i.jpg

I still have a few more details to do but this is about as much of the details seen from inside the chest lense on the CGI suit.

arc2c.jpg

Nice perfect fit so next step after I finishe the last details is a quick silicon mold and a clear cast iurethane copy then I'll paint the chrome detail and add the ring and screen center part.

unibeam.jpg

Here's for the people that don't remember the actual unibeam it plugs into the arc reactor and is the true detail seen, I like the unibean myself looks more high tech and I love the slotted ring outside with the amber glow adds more diversity and contrast so I'll be going that rout on the ABS suit.

I'll get a clear cast the black out paint work ready for the LED work and should be a cool chest light.

The original unibean is ABS parts I used a hole saw and band saw to cut out the layers and sanded edges and welded together I don't have high tech machines like C&C cutters or cab machines so I do it all by hand old school tools fun stuff about 30 minutes of work.

Hope you like the design and hope to get some more updates and wish every one else good luck and the best to you and your work aswell.

Re: New iron man suit in the the works

Nice work on the unibeam, I didn't know that's what it was called. :cool
That was the way I was going to go as well, now I see it way closer than the everybody elses arc's I'm sticking to the plan. :thumbsup
Suits coming along great, really like the newer version.

Thanks good to see new faces on the thread, the unibeam is just a bigger more powerful replusor ray just no one makes them so gotta be done from scratch if you prefer them but there's a some references I have more just needed to give the idea behind the actual part, hell it's only seen in it's full detail in one scene the rest of the time all you see is a bright light.

Thanks Fett glad you've been following the thread I see you've been busy as well kicking @$$ taking names you got my support there good luck to you sir.

Well time to go finish this peace and other parts get things updated soon good luck folks.

Re: New iron man suit in the the works

Dark, I hope this is cool, if not let me know and I'll take it down. I thought Id share pics of my finished Dark Asylum suit.

The suit is very light weight. It was 20 lbs without the shoes. I can bend over at the waist and touch my toes if i want to. The articulation in the suit is amazing. No costume like this is going to be comfortable but this suit is relatively comfortable. More so than my stormtrooper. The light weight of the suit is a blessing when your in it. I couldn't imagine anythign heavier. A heavier suit would be torture. The plastic lets the air in quite well too.

I still a have to buy dark red pants, finish the fingers, the arc light, and the repulsors, but other than that I'm done. I'm finished soldering now, so the lights will be in very soon.
