Hmm... I really should check those Indy novels out, huh? Now, I'm really curious about them.

I really enjoy the novels (though as I said, Interior World is just TOO out there for me). Rob Macgregor's novels (Pearl at Delphi to Interior World) seem aimed perhaps at a slightly younger market (late teens), but the books from Martin Caidin (Sky Pirates - that I've just started - and The White Witch) seem aimed at an older market (and are more technical - Caidin seems to be a real aeroplane buff). No idea about Max McCoy's yet.

Holy smokes you have come a long way!
Looks really great..... Is the unicorn horn a narwhal tusk? .

I wish it WAS a narwhals tusk! I've looked, but those things are EXPENSIVE - even resin cast replicas run about $200 (though just the tip is about $60). MY unicorn's horn cost me $3:

It is (or was) a 14 inch long acrylic icicle decoration I found. I cut off the end hook and repainted it. Unfortunately it does still have a pretty noticeable seem line (I couldn't be bothered going to the trouble of filling and sanding given the shape and the fact that it's just a quick piece), but it's hidden if you display it right.

May I ask, What are you going to do for the infernal machine?

Not really thought that far ahead yet. I've saved a whole load of production art that I'll be using for the location drawings, etc, but I've never played any of the games (nor ever owned a console), so I'll be relying on watching YouTube walk-throughs to get the stories and see the artifacts. If anyone has any really good caps of the artifacts from the games, I'd appreciate it.

Re: Indiana Jones Diary WIP - 1920-1957 - Interior World completed

OK, finished Sky Pirates. I've read a lot of people complaining about Martin Caidin's Indy novels, but I actually liked this story more than most of MacGregor's novels - it was a far more believeable story (no mystical elements). Indy WAS grumpy in it all the time though, it WAS extremely techincal with regard to flying planes and there WASN'T a resolution to what happens with the members of E.V.I.L. though.

Anyways, not so many interesting locations or objects to draw this time (and a lot of explanitory text), but here it is anyway - Indiana Jones and the Sky Pirates:

Diary34-1.jpg

I got a vintage Statue of Liberty postcard to complete the last entry of the last book (Interior World).

As you can't really read it, here's the article I made:

Diary37.jpg

And with the Ford Trimotor modifications sheet opened up:

Diary37b.jpg

These were real Ford Trimotor schematics I found and modifided very slightly in Photoshop.

Again, can't really read the newspaper article, so here it is:

"UFO" schematics opened out:

Diary41b.jpg

Diary41c.jpg

Diary42.jpg

Last schematic page opened out:

I took these "UFO" schematics from a "Vertical Take-Off aircraft Control" patent submitted by J.C.M. Frost in 1955 (US patent #3,020,002 - http://www.freepatentsonline.com/3020002.html) and modified the layout in Photoshop. I went through LOADS of saucer patents and this was the closest to what's described in the novel).

Next up is Indiana Jones and the White Witch. :thumbsup

Re: Indiana Jones Diary WIP - 1920-1957 - Sky Pirates completed

Dear God...:eek

Maybe the most outstanding private diary i've ever seen. A lot of love, passion and hard work can be seen in these pages.

Any insert about Deirdre Campbell, first wife of Jones? I could help you with that if interested

No Deirdre inserts yet - just mentioned in text. I saw your Deirdre inserts over on COW - excellent work as always. The photo of Jones and Deirdre is very well done, but the woman in the photo just doesn't look like how I imagine Deirdre (she's supposed to be beautiful, with long red hair).

I'd love to know who the model was that was used for the cover art of Indiana Jones and the Seven Veils (the pic you've used to make the rememberance insert with) - a great photo could be done using her in a different pose.

Or a marriage certificate from the correct time period and region for Indy and Deirdre would be great...

OK, that's Sky Pirates done - no more Martin Caidin novels, on to Max McCoy's 1st Indy novel next!

Here's the completed Indiana Jones and the White Witch:

This map was actually taken from a real map of Florida that was actually drawn in 1864:

Again, real map:

The coins mentioned in the book are said to be Roman gold coins from the time of *****, so I figured that they would be this particular Roman gold coin from 31BC-14AD. I've actually ordered a gold-plated replica of this coin which will hopefully arrive soon, so I can add it to the collection.

And that's it. :) Next up is Indiana Jones and the Philosopher's Stone. :thumbsup

Awesome and inspiring as ever. Are you going to have a black elastic band around it like the Grail Diary?

I should have plenty of the elastic around here somewhere if you need any.

Re: Indiana Jones Diary WIP - 1920-1957 - White Witch completed

This is amazing work. I discovered the novels after the latest movie came out and you book has been all those places! Keep it up!

Re: Indiana Jones Diary WIP - 1920-1957 - White Witch completed

Very cool diary!!! Awesome job you're doing so far!!!
What's interesting, is that I have a replica jade mask that looks very similar to the one drawn on the pic below. You can see it on my website in the "Oddities" section.:cool:thumbsup

I never noticed that on your site before. Great mask! The one in the illustration is the mask of Camozotz, the bat god, which Struzan used for his cover art. Though your mask is not of Camozotz it does share a striking resemblance.

Kind regards,
Indy

Thanks Indy!
Isn't the mask illustration in the diary really an illustration of the real green jade burial mask discovered in the tomb of what is believed to have been the 18th ruler of Tikal, Lord Quetzal (K'uk' Ahau)?
The mask is thought to date to the early 6th century. The hooked bill on the mask resembles the national bird of Guatemala, the Quetzal.

OMG this is so freaking amazing! I love the entire Indiana Jones series, including all the books you listed.

Yes it is. That was one of the problems I had to decide upon - whether to draw the jade mask in my journal to look like the mask that is pictured on the front cover of the book (which, as you say, is NOT Camozotz as is said in the book), or whether to do a different mask, based on photos of full body statues of Camozotz (of which a jade mask has never been found). In the end, though it's not technically correct, I decided to go with what most Indy fans would recognise.

That's one of the problems with the cover art on the novels - it looks good, but many of the artefacts painted there don't match the description of the artefact given in the novel. The alicorn from Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Horn is perhaps the most obvious - the alicorn on the cover is NOTHING like the alicorn described in the book (it's too short, the spiralling is wrong, and most importantly, it doesn't have the silver double-headed eagle handle).

Just finished reading Philosopher's Stone and am about a third of the way through the journal entries - I think this is my favourite Indy novel so far. :thumbsup Shame that McCoy didn't really use the Voynich Manuscript to it's full potential - none of the many illustrations are used and the V.M. contains a 6-page fold-out of what looks like a map, which again, was never used. Pity.

This is awesome! I really love the Genesis Deluge. :)

mayaartifactsjpc014.jpg

That's the one! I only had a small photo of it on a map with no annotations. Thanks for posting it!

I actually saw a jadeite replica of this piece in Flores, just outside of Tikal, but the shopkeeper wanted a fortune for it. I think he just didn't want to sell it.

Kind regards,
Indy
