Indiana Jones Diary WIP - 1920-1957 - Emperor's Tomb Level 1-3

Re: Indiana Jones Diary WIP - 1920-1957 - Secret of the Sphinx completed

Awesome. Now I have to read the books again in order and try and piece my own diary together.

I am very impressed with the art and detail.

Thanks for sharing.

Still no new pages? Love your diary and can't wait to see more. :)

Amazing work man...well done.

Re: Indiana Jones Diary WIP - 1920-1957 - Secret of the Sphinx completed

Thanks guys. :)

After nearly a year of being left on the back burner, I'm finally back in an Indy mood. :thumbsup

I have completed the journal entries for "Shrine of the Sea Devil" (photos to follow) and am starting research (i.e. sitting watching a walkthrough of the entire game on YouTube) on Emperor's Tomb.

I just posted at the Club Obi Wan forum on your diary post, inspired by it to start my own version. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Got the list of books and perusing your photos for ideas.

OK, so back on track, here we have the diary entry for "Indiana Jones and the Shrine of the Sea Devil":

This features a copy of a real article about Amelia Earhart's flight that was printed in 1935 and a copy of a real autographed photo of Amelia (which has been altered to include a dedication to Indy).

Next up will be Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb. I think it'll be quiet a while before that's finished though. Just the first level of the game - located on Ceylon (modern day Sri Lanka) will have a couple of pages.

Superb as ever, always looking forward to see your progress. Reading Peril at Delphi again getting ready to start my version.

Thanks for the inspiration.

Got a journal, bottles of Noodler's ink, fountain pens and ready to start my own version.

Wife is rolling her eyes as I've taken over dining room table!

What journal did you go with? As I'm coming to the end of this one and will shortly need to start a 2nd, I've been looking for a new one. Unfortunately I can't find the seller that I bought this one from to get another. I want one with handmade paper pages that look aged/browned like this one.

Re: Indiana Jones Diary WIP - 1920-1957 - Shrine of the Sea Devil completed

I have several types but got one from Barnes and Noble which is Italian leather and twice the size of the Grail Diary, I decided Indy could use a bigger journal as he'd lug it around in his respirator bag anyway.

It has lined white paper though, I thought about if you fill one journal would Indy use an identical one or pick up another at whatever source he is at when the needs arises.

I am typing up the text in Word and will work from that so the journal may change as I get ready to start the actual hand writing.

W.H. Smith may have something.

OK, at long last I'm finally finished the journal! Well, THIS journal at least, as I've run out of pages. I will however be continuing with the timeline in a second journal....

Working on "Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb", I have completed the journal entries for the first 3 levels of the game. The next journal will pick off straight from where this one finishes - so the new journal will actually see the exploits in Hong Kong. At the moment Ceylon, Prague and Istanbul and covered.

So here we go:

Diary91.jpg

This is an old 1555 map of Ceylon (then known as Sumatra - now known as Sri Lanka) and is the same one that Indy is looking at at the start of the game.

The Silent Guardians were a pain to draw - they're hardly shown (especially open) in any of the online walkthroughs. The Heart of Kouru Watu is a cool looking idol - would be great to have a replica of in the collection.

The newspaper cuttings were taken from the Emperor's Tomb user manual.

The Astrological Clock in Prague drawing is a photoshopped screen-cap:

The homunculus info is taken from Wikipedia with an old wood cutting from Faust:

The Dragon Shard - 2nd piece of the Mirror of Dreams

The Phoenix Shard - the 3rd piece of the Mirror of Dreams. Though not actually named, I worked out from the screencaps that the other animal was a kind of bird. In China the Phoenix is paired with the Dragon a lot, so I figured out that's what it's supposed to be.

Looks like I forgot to photograph a page - with the Heart of Kouru Watu - the 1st piece of the Mirror of Dreams - on it. Will get that done soon and uploaded...

Looks great! So glad you stuck with. I really enjoy seeing what you come up with for your entries.

Thank you for also referencing the inserts.

Best,

No. Well a little. I finished off the entries for Emperor's Tomb by starting another journal, but then stopped there.

I did scan in all of the pages and Photoshop each one to clean them up and remove inserts (so that they can be printed seperately and stuck in place) and arranged all the pages in a file so they're in the correct order to print. I hunted around for A4-sized aged looking paper (didn't fancy tea-dying 50 sheets per journal) without much success. Did find some that looked decent (made from recycled paper) and tried to print off a copy of the journal, but the paper turned out to be just short of A4 size and so the printer (reprographics dept at the Uni) couldn't print on it front and back. At that point I kind of gave up.

I still have the file, and if I come across aged-looking A4 paper (need 50 sheets per journal) I may try to do a run of journals yet if there's interest.
