I have such a problem with John Carter being a huge flop…I love that movie. It was a victim of very poorly executed marketing on the part of…well, Disney.

Amazing how many of those flops have been produced since 2015.

Thanks for posting the chart. Here's MY personal takeaway from that chart...

There were SEVERAL of those films that I saw & thoroughly enjoyed. There were a few I own & go back to repeatedly. I'm not in the movie business & could care less about the box office if I enjoyed it. I can think of a few 'classics' or 'cult' films that have grown in popularity & acclaim YEARS after they absolutely crapped the bed in theaters.

I appreciate those that have seen the film & been willing to come into what essentially hostile territory to share your opinions of liking the movie. I try to be encouraging & fair here, but it sure is getting harder.

Like what you like & enjoy what you enjoy. Especially with those that actually MATTER in your life.

Do what I've done... Keep checking the room where you store all your fornications, because as time goes on, you'll find you have less than ZERO fornications to give about what others think.

I have no problem with anyone who likes this movie because I do believe you are all coming from a place of honest love for the character.

It just makes me me sad that I don't believe the same about the execs in charge of Lucasfilm.

I disagree. Box office success is not the end all be all.

It's still Disney's fault for making a ludicrously expensive movie that didn't appeal to the vast majority of the film-going audience. You'd think they would have done some market research first.

Yeah it is Disney's fault. But that does not necessarily mean the film was bad. It didn't appeal to enough people and/or not enough people care enough about Indiana Jones to want to see it.

Those biggest box office bombs, awesome I worked on ten of them, so those ten were expected to fail. But it's also missing others such as Southland Tales, Idiocracy, Run Ronny Run, to name a few. I disagree. Box office success is not the end all be all.

Yeah it is Disney's fault. But that does not necessarily mean the film was bad. It didn't appeal to enough people and/or not enough people care enough about Indiana Jones to want to see it.

When it comes to films getting made, it certainly is. Like it or not, Hollywood is all about making money. No money = no movies.

The Heaven's Gate figure is counting the gross against the production budget, which is inaccurate. With prints and advertising, the loss was as I stated in my post above. Its break-even number was $140 million without adjusting for inflation. Heaven's Gate on Wikipedia.

Well, people don't want KK's new Rey-driven Star Wars saga.i don't blame anyone for that.

...but it seems like every objective metric used to determine if a movie is "good" is getting debunked.

"Poisoning the well" before a film is released also seems effective.

I still dont know what people were expecting from an 80 year-old in an action flick
