Imperial Gunboat -Painted

Here is a scratch and bash Im currently doing. Its my take on the Imperial Gunboat (a craft from the TIE Fighter videogame). The original design was based on the Imp shuttle, but I wanted it to look more in the line of what a Flying Fortress from Sienar Fleet Systems would look like.

I have done most of the scribing and are now adding details.

The basic idea is a heavy tie fighter with shields and hyperdrive. Two crewmembers: Pilot and gunner. It will have a turret, missiles and heavy laser guns. The cockpit and engines will have lights.

Which direction is it intended to fly? When I first saw it, it seemed a bit awkward. But I am warming up to the design as I get to looking at it more and more.

As for the heavy gun mounts, what about modifying the solar panels to be sort of TIE Interceptor like, but with the heavy forward lasers at the end of them rather then the four small Interceptor lasers? Of course, depending on the scale, that could be tough to achieve, but it is an idea anyway.

JMChladek: Thanks for great feedback.:thumbsup I also found it looking awkward first:lol but this version grew on me (I had other wing versions also). I want to make it look totally SW yet totally new. A car designer from SAAB once said he dont want ppl to imideately love his designs, but instead letting them grow on them. Im pretty sure a lot of the original designs must have looked a strange at first.

The hole is in the front, the Vader wings are backwards. I can see why one would be confused at this stage, but with the canopy and weapons added, it should be more obvious.

I like your idea with the wings and guns and will consider it. I am thinking of remaking the wings.

I continued adding greebles and the topside is pretty much done.

I will continue with the nose part. Starting to lean to scratching a new canopy instead of the standard one. Havent decided though.

Update:

Im now done with the detailing. I made the turret and missiles.

I decided Im gonna paint it white, one reason is the original imp gunboat is white, another reason is Im a sucker for white. I might do some TIE blue stripes though, like the one on the Emperors Lambda shuttle. I havent decided yet.

Hey thanks!

Update.

When I started to weather it it turned into some Falconish grey color, that didnt look right at all. I decided to go for a darker TIEish blue. I want it to look as if the lightspeed traveling and the battles had made it dirty and used. Not the "just out of factory" look of the TIEs.

Our camera just broke, so the pics is from my mobile phone. Ill take better ones when the camera is fixed.
