Help with Nice-N SS TIE

Yup - what Jerry said. His post is a great instruction/tutorial on assembly.

Alan, how is your buildup coming?

It's coming along. I've got my hull sanded and prepped, almost ready to paint.

My wings are almost ready to go, but I plan to replace the t-bar on the struts to get a look that's a little closer to the ESB filming model.

I took Ryan's advice and got some Rustoleum Slate Blue from Home Depot and did an ESB color test this afternoon. I REALLY like the look (thanks, Ryan.).

I still need to order up one of the pylons like REL is using on his starship build and make the display base. I'll probably go with a hardwood base.

EDIT:
Here are some progress pics... the only work I've done on the stars is to remove some material to get them a little thinner to match the ESB ship I'm replicating. The detail on the wingstars is super sharp. I was very impressed with all of the visible detail.

That's great work Allan. You did a great job cleaning up those wings.

I was inspired by seeing ckwanwoo's studio scale X-Wing base buildup to try the same thing myself when I knew I was going to need some extra bases for my studio scale ships and I always wanted them to be idealized "what Icons SHOULD have offered" versions. When it became hard to get extra Icons bases I opened my mind up a little to using something else and Tony Agustin, who I knew in high school and always marvelled at his model kit building and painting skills back in the 80's, did a remarkable Death Star tile set that replicates the Joe Johnston Death Star tile designs done in pre-production for "A New Hope", which it seems Icons tried doing also but much, much sloppier. The only trouble in replicating the configuration of the Icons base with Tony's tile set (available over at Starship Modeler) was that it lacked one tile design, so I scratchbuilt it myself. So below are pics comparing an Icons base casting with an idealized version using Tony's tile set and the extra one I made. I still have to plate the tower for the pole mount, but you can see how it's going to look:

And here are the beginnings of the base I am building for my SS X-Wing. It matches the tile configuration of the Icons base but I lengthened it a row in the back so that it would be an equal length to the X-Wing that will hover over it with a rear pole mount:

I am going to cast my tower component as a seperate element to epoxy into both bases so they match.

If anyone wants the extra tile I made to go along with Tony's tiles to replicate the Icons configurations (along with the tower mount and plaque holders I am also finishing up) just let me know.

I am going to use the tiles also to create Icons style bases for two ships Icons DIDN'T do... my Vader X-1 and a Y-Wing. So I will have a great, idealized display of all the fighters from ANH.

Very nice work, JV.

Wish more people were posting their TIE buildups...

Initially, I'd rotated mine to the backburner due to my Star Destroyer Avenger project. But, I found once I touched the kit, I couldn't leave it alone. Plus, of course, it won't take nearly as long as the ISD. :D

Hmm, I'm still a little confused here... :confused I thought there were three "levels" of this kit. 1. The Standard kit 2. The "Hero" kit minus the Koolshade and 3. The "Hero" with the Koolshade. Each one got progressively more expensive. So what is exactly is the difference between the standard kit and the hero kit minus koolshade, and why the increase in cost?
So Steve, any chance of getting some casts of the wings from those new molds to replace the ones I've got? :)

I asked him the same but did not get an reply yet. Would be great if its possible to replace, for a certain pricepoint if needed.

I wish there was someone here who could help you pull molds off of your star destroyer buildup segments, now THAT would be an awesome kit.

There are Three TIE Fighters that I make. First being the standard (cast Koolshade in the one piece wings) The Second is the Hero, (4 wing Stars and trim pieces, MINUS Koolshade) and third Hero with (4 wing stars and trim pieces and Koolshade.)

PMs sent bobbyfet, spiker

Steve forgot to mention that there are also 2 "options" availabe with each of the 3 kits: Cored hull being option #1, and cored hull with the fairly recent pilot being #2.

bobbyfett/spiker LMK if Steves PM did not clear things up for you guys.
