Godzilla (Post-release)

I enjoyed the movie, but I think that the bean counters probably killed this movie. I think they took one look at how much it would cost to have Cranston in the whole film and how much it would cost for a proper amount of on screen kaiju time and took an axe to both.

Oh , I would be skeptical of that.

The hubby and I went to see this last night.

Overall, I really enjoyed it, but cripes, could the lead couple have any LESS chemistry? I thought that Aaron Taylor Johnson did a perfectly servicable job, but I had serious issues buying Elizabeth Olson as a doctor and a mother because she looks about 12. Also, although I know they're actors and they're just roles, seeing those two kiss set me up to view them playing siblings in Avengers 2 as kind of icky (unless they delve into the Ultimates universe ).:sick

Overall, I really enjoyed the movie (seriously, I'd probably pay money to watch a recording of Ken Watanabe read his grocery list, rawr), but would've liked to see more kaiju fighting and less human drama.

Just saw the movie and it was great, Did not care for the human stars, and the Japanese kid on the train was much more likable. Very nice monster fights and the effects was GREAT!!! .... At the end i was thinking....."Still not as much damage to the city as in "Superman: Man of steel"

Was Ford's kid suppose to be Mentally handicapped or maybe have Down Syndrome? He was like 5 years and could barely put one sentence together. The mother acted like there was something wrong with him, I seem to remember a early scene with him where they applaud when he had said a sentence (and not even saying it correctly if i remember right.)

There were some nice touches they did with G to show an intelligence there.
I appreciated that sort of heavy sigh he gave after defeating that first MUTO.
Sort of oh man, glad that s*** is over, one more mofo to go.
He seemed to know as he looked down at that that tiny human that he actually helped him out by torching the eggs and getting one of the
MUTO's off his back, This is all gold to me because for me it establishes Godzilla as character and not just a big monster fighting and breaking stuff.

I caught the Mothra easter egg, but I didn't notice any others....anyone?
Is the fossilized Godzilla skeleton a possible lead up to Mechagodzilla?

Like Kiryu in Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (2002) where they build Mechagodzilla around the bones of the original Godzilla.

The skeleton they found was weird, though. Extremely long compared to the diameter of the ribs (and the sheer number of ribs).. more like a snake than anything resembling Godzilla's shape. Unless he has ribs in his tail or something. I wonder if they simply assumed that it was the same species without taking a close look, since he's the only one they knew about at the time?

the movie fell flat for me....it lacked a ton of emotion. I didnt care for the human portion. It didnt give me enough time to actually enjoy the family, so it felt empty...just one broken messed up family that never stays together for more than a minute....

Ford's voice bothered me at times...sounded like he was going to puberty...also, his portion was too far fetched...Too much captain america....surviving all the events that he could had easily died....monster staring him down several times...and limping to the docks under a few minutes when it seemed miles away...then him getting rescue on the boat when they said its a suicide mission.....just got silly...

monster fight was pretty cool, however they kept teasing a fight throughout the film...once it actual got to the fight, i just didnt care anymore...

best scene in the film was the skydiving part...

You summed up how I felt about this film perfectly, for me it was meh.

Strange thing, the only character I really cared about was the young soldier who goes with ford to check out the railroad tracks for the nuke train, I was hoping he would live, but of course he got killed with every other soldier that went with ford ( and I mean EVERY other soldier).

Maybe I'm becoming a grumpy old movie goer.

It was a little better second viewing. This time without 3D. That 3D just killed it for me. Nothing but dark, blurry blobs on the screen. This time I could actually see stuff. I don't like the new design. Godzilla looks like a dog with elephant feet. I agree that the young guy should have died. I kept saying 'how convenient' everytime he survived.

So the whole plot is ancient creature is accidentally awakened. It needs nuclear energy so it burrows to Japan and kills Cranston's wife. It grows wings, kills Cranston, and calls to its mate who is locked up in Nevada (I still don't get that part). Godzilla 'awakens' because his job is to restore order to the planet. They all converge on San Fran. Military there doesn't know Godzilla isn't a threat and try to shoot him causing him to trash the bridge (still don't know why he grabbed it). Military then decide to lure creatures with megaton bomb and then detonate it with mechanism that once armed can't be unarmed. Military screws this up and try to send bomb far away from San Fran and fail. Gozi defeats creatures with 'surprise' breath at the end. Nuclear bomb detonates (killing off-seen millions in the fallout). Godzilla is a hero as he stomps innocent people while lumbering back into the sea. The end.

Aren't America's Nuclear bombs safe? The bomb couldn't detonate, no EMP. He was saving the kids on the bridge. All I know is that black guy driving the bus was a badass!

.......... Godzilla is a hero as he stomps innocent people while lumbering back into the sea. The end.

That is very Japanese, the whole love/hate thing with Godzilla.
The first film, when the oxygen destroyer is used to kill him, it's a somber moment despite what he had done to their cities.

Caught a second viewing of it and it was better.

I did catch a glimpse of a poster of Mothra on the wall in the school too before the plant melted down.!

Sounds like a well written oscar-worthy epic-vaganza :lol or not. Glad I'm skipping this :)
