GHOSTBUSTERS Pre-Release - film discussion only, no social commentary please!

I never heard of patton oswalt before he became involved with Mst3K. I liked what little i saw of him in the telethon.

Didn't think much of him until he insulted the nerd for no reason. then, i saw this.
I guess we can welcome the newst sony shill to the club.

Although supposedly his wife was in the movie for a little bit, so, he might be just a tad over emotional about the whole subject, lashing out at people going against it.
Still, the whole james tweet kind of soured me on looking forward to enjoying him in the reboot.
seems like a typical hollywood goofballto me.

This one I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, given his wife died suddenly back in April. I have a hunch it takes more than a few months to get over something like that. As for Patton himself... I liked him a lot in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and I love his stand-up. This is not to say I agree with everything he says, but I feel he's earned his geek street cred. I'm not gonna hate on him for liking the reboot as well as the originals. There are people who have been Trek fan since the '60s who like JJ's 1009 Star Trek. In both cases, it baffles me, and I can't see how they can possible reconcile it in their heads, but it's what they like and I'm not gonna try to invalidate that. As you said, the way someone phrases something can touch a raw nerve and boom. That whole comment string is gone now, from the looks of it. So make of that what you will.

as generic action movies, the nu trek is ok. the cast does a decent enough job. but as star trek movies? no way. i'd hope this is the last one, but so long as it's in the hands of paramount and cbs, who clearly don't want to do real star trek, i have no hopes of something better coming along.

looking online, it's nice to see i'm not the only one who feels the same way about pattons attack on the nerd. it's getting to the point where people with negative opinions have to stick up for one another so we don't get droned out by the positive like everything crowd. it's ok to disagree, but attacking the nerd for a well thought out opinion is probably not a good move.

A media friend of mine sent me something about ghostbusters and snap chat. apparently they are releasing something soon to go with the new movie. apparently comes out today.

I wouldn't even say it does that. It iis well cast and well acted, but the science is so egregiously bad it threw people I talked to who never pay attention to such things. A supernova that will destroy the galaxy? Red matter? Beaming across light years? "Delta Vega" being closer to Vulcan than our moon is to us? Sadly, we see more of the same in The Force Awakens. The planet Maz's castle is on 1) isn't in the same system as the current Republic capitol, or 2) even in the direct line between the capitol and Starkiller Base, and yet somehow the folks on the ground saw the lightspeed weapon streaking slowly across the sky and the individual planet and moons of Hosnian Prime exploding visible in daylight. I mean, ugh. >_<

I'm pretty much in the same mindset... but I put the "faltering" point back at the inception of Voyager and the latter part of Generations. Everything after Picard went into the Nexus in the Prime timeline, I treat as his Nexus fantasy, including getting out. Enterprise is a prologue to the JJ-Trek universe -- the "Kelvin timeline".

Yeah, but it looked cool, didn´t it? And we know nothing about Astrogation in the SW Galaxy. Even their maps have blank spaces in them, but at least those spaces are normalized, otherwise the puzzle piece wouldn´t have fit so perfectly :p

fast and furious with terriblness now. new clips.

one showing their progressivness of a secretary that i think called ghosts goats...and one showing an action sequence and how bad ass these idiots are...

I'll tell you what it looks like,it looks like any other "summer blockbuster" the last few years i.e. Transformers,Ninja Turtles,Matrix.....

Gritty action? check
Slow-mo shot? check
Close save of a friend? another check.

Add in they're women and the drum beat on that plus the requisite stupid male and you've got a perfect stew that folks eat up and cry for more! more now!!

I don't mind these things but sometimes they get too full of themselves I think, this is one of those times, looks like utter crap.

You're right on all points. Here's the question...who finds any of that entertaining anymore? Every movie is the same string of seen it a million time cliches. Nothing remotely engaging, suspenseful, exciting, unexpected, funny, witty, scary, shocking or original about any of it. Nothing! At all! It can all be seen coming from a lightyear away. Have audiences REALLY gotten this dumb? I accept that as a society, we're dumber than at any point in recorded history. But, has it gotten THIS bad?

maybe not all, but hollywood sure thinks we've become COMPLACENT. when you accept anything with a no ghost log on it, or give it a try based on bad trailers, why do they have to try anymore?

then you get a few fun gems like gaurdians of the galaxy that come out of nowhere that remind you what good is when people really try.
however, that never lasts long, when suicide squad comes along, and tries to copy trailers beat by beat, and the cycle begins anew.

The reboot toy sale continues. At Toys R Us:

Way too much reboot stuff acting as peg warmers in the boys action figure aisle. Goes to show that having all female main characters and no male characters for the boys to relate too doesn't work.

Like I said I find it odd the Walmart I shop at has both the new film and the old film stuff piled together, and the figures at least are from 2009 I dunno about the hot wheels Ecto's from the first two films but I suspect they too are from a few years ago.

what's funny is, the stores are hiding the ones that do sell and putting the ladies out front.
All the OGB figures are buried in the back. supposedly target was reached for comment, claims it was 'an error' and is working to fix it.

A SLIMER Spin off movie? what's that going to be? GhostMaids? the story of Slimer and female slimers nuptuals?

IF they include real screenshots, i wonder if they should expect lawsuits?

Luckily me and my team are in driving distance of the premiere. I'm most excited about meeting a lot of busters I've only talked with online for years. Got to experience that some back in March at the trailer premiere and this will be multiplied many times that. Also, unlimited Papa John's at the film premiere, so very excited about that as well.

Also don't forget the Ghostheads documentary will be streaming on Netflix the 15th as well, very honored to have been a part of it. Haven't seen it yet myself but heard nothing but great things about it.
