GHOSTBUSTERS Pre-Release - film discussion only, no social commentary please!

I don't need cameos, just meant that keeping the continuity means a lot to my perception of this film.

It's kinda funny y'all talking about stuff that is sourced from 4Chan :wacko and IMDB forums :facepalm as if it were fact. That's like going to a cesspit and reporting your stank induced hallucinations as news scoops.

I don't doubt that this film will be a crap-fest, but really the only solid info seems to be re-shoots (extremely common) and the complete lack of promotional materials/trailers (not encouraging).

the other problem I have with this becoming ghostbusters three.....

Do we really need another movie where the ghostbusters went out of buisness

the game was a nice touch where it was two years later, and they where still operating as normal, after the city recognized them for the heroes they are after the end of ghostbusters 2.
the fact that they keep on going out of business for one reason or another, without having the need to train others to protect the city in the long run is a tad depressing.
just as much as it was seeing luke, han and lea not evolving at all as characters, and in some cases, regressing further than where they where at the end of rotj.

heh, reading some of the comments from possible millenials online, wondering why we are bashing this thing without having seen it first, I felt compelled to make this image from the wizard ;o)

Right there with ya on that. I still love and hang onto the notion that they'd evolved since the video game, due to the shift in public perception of the paranormal. We have Destination: Truth and Ghost Hunters out here in Reality-Land™ now (I won't mention the other, awful, show). What must have happened in-universe? After the first incident, everyone was able to convince themselves it was a hoax, and the Ghostbusters suffered as a result. After the second incident, the reality of it is kinda gonna get hammered home. Add that on top of a general increasing acceptance that there may be something going on that we should develop the technology to measure and interact with, and I can see the Ghostbusters spearheading that.

It would make more sense, to me, that they'd be pushing for communication with the normal background-noise level of paranormal incidences, doing lectures and assisting local paranormal-investigation groups in getting going with good technology and technique (nothing like ignorant noobs to screw things up), and only "busting" in cases of extreme hauntings, where a family is being run out of there home due to paranormal activity (please note lowercase). Perfect lead-in for an actual GB3 would be establishing that as the old/current status quo, then Something Happens™ and Ray and Winston and Louis, now recently sans Egon, acknowledge they're Getting Too Old For This [Crap]™ and -- possibly with the help of characters from the video game -- recruit some new blood to go out and kick some paranormal heiny.

As I said, it doesn't take much familiarity with the Ghostbusters canon to have a story practically write itself. A part of me wishes we hadn't run into Ivo Shandor in the video game, 'cause it'd be nice to close the circle back to the guy responsible for the first incident. *shrug* But it still wouldn't take much delving to come up with something good. Maybe a foray into the Lovecraftian...

yep. agreed you don't even have to be a fan. just a creative enough person to be able to follow what the universe set up, and extrapolate logically a new plotline that could be fun.

It might even have been interesting to see the ghostbusters hold a recruiting call......Call out all people from across the country who want to be ghostbusters. take them on training...weed out the weak ones. have one of the students into the paranormal accidentally set off the next chain of big bad events, and boom , there is your part three story. and you could still have a 'going into business' story of sorts with the new recruits angle.

it'll be a long wait till next thursday heh.

So, did we ever get confirmation that they filmd the dance number in the streets?
Those shots in the trailer look like that's what they'd lead up to....and I wouldn't be surprised if they did exactly that....maybe those where the first few shots from the trailer itself, and in the full trailer, they cut away to the spectral dance number....

And you know the other thing that's been bugging me? not ONE ghostbusters fan page on FB seems to be against this movie. Not One. some are aggressive on their stance, others seem to have a wait and see approach. while lots of the comments on their pages trash it. well, minus one of those pages that polices that kind of thing. you'd think at least one of them would be trashing it rather than promoting it.

This movie could be decent but the problem I have is they have too many of the cast from brides maids in this. I thought it was a horrible movie so i do not have a great feeling that this movie will turn out ok.

what, you don't want a scene of slimer crapping in a sink? that's high brow millenial comedy right there, friend!

just saw something odd...supposedly warwick davis is in this movie? people for some reason think he will motion capture the rowan avatar?

sigh...if he also voices the thing....who's going to take a 100 foot tall logo ghost with the voice of an ewok seriously?

Rowan is being played by one of the SNL writers. Rumor has it that Warwick is
doing mo-cap on a Stay-Puft parade balloon that gets possessed.

That's a bit of a rude comment towards Warwick, who seems to be a very cool dude. Besides, did the Ewoks even talk?

I get that you're not anticipating the GB reboot, but must you really be so hateful? Take a note from Mr. Stay Puft...

that WAS one of the more polite ways I could think of to phrase it.

Do I really have to explain myself?
I have nothing against Warwick himself. I'm one of the few people who LIKED the ewoks(NON BLINKING Ewoks, mind you)..... .....and on a limited basis,I don't even have a problem with Jar Jar if he's handled right. and yes, they did talk ;o). All I had going through my mind was one of wickets lines coming out of rowan as he fled the blaster shot in the woods.... 'Aichewa wa!' I believe it was.

But usually a performer will voice the same character he portrays, motion captured or otherwise..and after hearing his normal voice, I can't see him voicing an evil demi god. I can't see MANY people voicing an evil demi god for that matter..
Was that nicer put?

sigh..if just bringing up the facts of life is considered 'mean' these days...no wonder people on the net get driven crazy second guessing what they shouldn't and should be able to say..hell, have you heard my voice? I get confused for ma'am 90% of the time I use the phone.

So you mean EXACTLY like the big-bad demigod from the original GB? Slavitza Jovan didn't voice Gozer. :) Status quo.

there are exceptions, of course....

But the four people who did mo cap in the new turtles movie did the voices too IIRC...same goes for jar jar ....

I think the reason gozer got replaced, IIRC, was because she couldn't say the lines right. for some reason I seem to recall harold saying she thought 'Choose and Perish' was 'Jews and Berries', with a bit of a language barrier.. who knows how she would have ended up sounding if they used the original voice.

at this point, nothing this movie does would surprise me with the choices they make, hence why I can't be happy about it. every new bit of info I hear is nothing but instant doom...and it's like lemmings off a cliff ;o). I still can't get over how dumb they made stay puft sound in his only abc appearance with, I think it was dave coulier voicing him to sound more child/elmo like.

We arn't all wired the same way to expect goodness out of hollywood ;o).

Leo and Splinter were both voiced by different actors. Word is still out on the new TMNT if Knoxville will be back. Consensus is Ploszek, but Knoxville's name keeps popping up in articles. In fact, a good chunk of the characters in the 1990 TMNT movie were voiced by different actors-- Leo, Mikey, Donnie, Shredder, Tatsu. Shall I also mention Vader? :lol

Going back to GB, Vigo was also voiced by a different actor. It's not uncommon at all. :)

You seem to be really into GB. There's a ton of awesome 'behind the scenes' material and info out there for GB/GB2. You might enjoy yourself more diving into that stuff, rather than spend your time hating on a movie you obviously have no interest in.

The "Jews and berries" comment was from Murray, poking fun of Slavitza's accent. The casting of the Gozer character happened pretty late in the game. Reitman liked her look, but not her voice. She was going to be dubbed since the day she was cast.

'Because, when you like something, and you care about it like I do....you don't want anything bad to happen to it.........what?'

'because you hope it'll be an isolated incident....a one shot deal'.....

again,I reiterate...if folks have a hard time accepting that people like trashing something, please start a positive thread.

we will stay out of that one, I promise ;o).

Warwick Davis is awesome. Lay off! :lol

No, I sincerely doubt they'd use his voice, but if they do it might work. He's got range. Besides, he didn't do the voice for Wicket.

I get you not wanting anything bad to happen to a franchise you like. I totally get it. What I don't get is why do you think complaining on a message board will have any sort of effect on the outcome of the reboot? I'm not trying to be defensive or combative-- I'm genuinely interested. :)

Darth Vader, Darth Maul and Admiral Ackbar........ they were all dubbed. And without wanting to shatter your childhood dreams..... so was R2D2!!

Sorry.

Oh and hugely disappointingly so was Boba after the prequels...... dumb.... real dumb. Come to think about it, I sure the Mighty Sarlac AND Chewie were dubbed too...... Oooooh I need to lie down for a bit.

Still, it doesnt change the fact that they seem to be trying to appease fans with some changes after our negative feedback so far. It looks like fan power has a foothold in the Wood that is of Holly. Lets hope it lasts and we can get a few things made that we all want and not what producers want to shove down our necks. It worked with Deadpool.... what a movie....

I still wont be seeing it in a Cinema though. I cant bring myself to pay good money to see it. But I will see it eventually if only to confirm what we all suspect.

R2? NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

on the other hand, anthony daniels did his voice ;o).
Personally, I don't mind the fett voice change. It took a while to get used to, of course...but once I did...maybe the original guy didn't sound like he did back in the 70s so they decided to do something new? the only problem I had with it was the 'acting' sounded rather...stilted, just like all the characters. especially young bobba's awkward laugh as he and 'dad' throw charges at obi-wans ship.

good thing I didn't criticize jar jars abilities...imagine the pitch forks ;o)......I also am one of the few people who don't mind jake lloyd either ;o).

I already got frustrated once trying to explain it... i'm not going down that road again!

If you don't get it, my trying to explain myself away a second (third? loosing count) time isn't going to help much ;o)

but for the sake of clarity, the short version....and all i'm going to say about it...
just know that sometimes it's incredibly freeing to bash something that deserves it. my posts may just be reading off a little more doom and gloom than intended, but it's more draining trying to explain myself and my reactions than it is bashing this silly god forsaken movie. if that makes sense ;o). After Bay Turtles last year, I just felt the need to let loose... i'm not even paying attention to the sequel on the scale that I did the original trash fest. I didn't even know when it came out until a week or so ago.

Just PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE don't let someone trash Thundercats next. I can't take a third disaster.
