GHOSTBUSTERS Pre-Release - film discussion only, no social commentary please!

On the other hand, who knows. Maybe it'll be terrific or terrible. We'll find out in short order. I, for one, will be glad when it's finally out so that at least the "You can't judge it unless you pay $14 for a ticket, and at least $6 for a bucket of popcorn because that's the only way to judge the film, unless you want to substitute nachos for the popcorn, or possibly Raisinets."

I'd be glad it finally came out too..but, with the one two punch of first turtles being ruined and ghostbusters immediately after, I know the next one down the line will be just as bad and tarnishing of fun properties will never stop.
.
although these are the two biggest in my pantheon of favorites.

Sadly the 'you can't judge it until you see it' crowd will never go away. and you can no longer talk sanely with the positive crowd either. I either have my words turned around to make one look foolish or uninformed, or to shame you in someway...or questions ignored and non related topics brought up to try and prove some point they want to make.
It's happened time and time again on other areas of the net and on twitter...
this is modern net discussion these days..and if i've gone crazy, it's because of dealing with people like that which make you frustrated more than informed ;o).

I wonder, what where the reviews and star ratings of other paul feig movies? if they where all about the same (Either because people genuinely like that kind of modern comedy, or because they where to scared to give an honest review)....i guess we can expect the same for feigbusters.

"You can't judge it till you see it" will be replaced with "you just didn't get it" or "you're biased to start with."

I've said it before - Hollywood pumps out trailers like crazy trying to make us pre-judge movies. They only complain when we don't pre-judge movies in the intended direction.

Well my buddies daughter likes McCarty and she seems to enjoy the GB preview I showed her, she's also eighteen so maybe this humor is what makes young folk laugh (gawd never thought I'd say that!) nowadays.

I'm still not sure I want to really say how it'll do,it may bomb,it may shine,or it may just be something that happens and is quickly forgotten.

I think it will, as a film, be a "meh" film. Not awful, not SUPERAMAZEBALLS, just, you know, fine. People will watch it. People will like it. And then people will move on.

Like, Spy, for example, was generally well received...and aside from referencing it in the context of other Feig movies, we aren't really talking about it. It'll probably get a sequel, maybe two, before the studio and audiences move on. My guess is that that's what happens with this film.

Best case scenario: first film is more popular than expected and launches a franchise. Second film attempts to "embiggen" what happened in the first film (on the theory that more/bigger = better), and scores a box office success with mediocre reviews. Third film is barely a blip on the radar.

Has anyone else noticed the amount of testosterone that's been added to these sponsor advertisements lately? Done on purpose or just odd coincidence?

And to this:
you may have just heard the largest groan and OH MY GOD you've ever heard after i saw this..

how....does.it...just...Keep...Getting...WORSE?

Image didn't post for some reason but just in case. found online

I'm amazed it continues to find nails to add to this coffin I thought was thoroughly well nailed.

done on purpose o;)

and some people wonder why so many where railing on this for two years non stop ;o).

We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to Riff on, we're going to Fight for Quality! We will not accept uncaring mediocrity!

Whether or not the reboot makes the predicted $40 million during its opening weekend will depend on The Secret Life of Pets that opens the weekend before. If Secret Life makes the same splash and money like Finding Dory did with the kids and families, then the reboot gets buried it opening weekend like the Independence Day movie did by Finding Dory. I see most of the reboot commercials on Nickelodeon and my boys groan and grimace every time a reboot commercial comes on. it does look like Sony is aiming this reboot at kids. But. pG-13 rating may hurt that. If Secret Life is good and keeps the families interests for a week or two, then the reboot will be dead on arrival.

Well, here's to hoping that the reboot finishes in second place or worst to Secret Life the weekend of July 15.

BTW, what is up with the reboot merchandise going on clearance, yes clearance, at Target two weeks before the reboot arrives in movie theaters. Never heard of such as thing happening with other movies.

Ha, was just about to post that. Bad sign for the film, good for people who would like the toys though.

is it only at target? wouldn't it be funny if the owner of the stores is not a fan, and is doing this as a protest ;o).

I still can't find any of this so called merchandise locally. last time i checked was a week ago.
People arn't really clamoring for a mcarthy or jones action figure. no one even really knows them outside of paul feig movies.
and don't act like SNL is still relevant ;o).

looking at imdb from the places that can find these mythical theater seat checkers, supposedly theaters are only pre selling tickets 4 at a time.
the one i saw that had the most pre sells had 15 seats sold...
hopefully that's a GREAT indication people are staying true to their typings.

Not only at Target. The proton pack is on sale at TRU. Around $5.00 off.

Some Walmarts in my area didn't even stock the reboot gear. Some Walmarts didn't even stock any GB merchandise.

One of my local Walmarts has the new GB stuff, but they have the "original" GB figures right along side it which I find odd as hell since don't you want to promote JUST the new film? why bring up the other? oh and last week when I was there they had the GB and GBII hotwheel Ecto-1's too.

I posted the Venkman I bought, these are the $19.99 ones, strange the package dates them to 2009......

with turtles, it was the opposite. even if it was something old, they made sure that whatever iteration was current, took center stage.

for instance, the 1989 arcade release had a wrap around of the 2007 movie turtles on it for some reason.
The Turtles in time Reshelled was more of a reboot with the 2003 Nick Series cast, complete with the new series voice cast. it was a nice touch, but one of many things wrong with that game.

it might be a branding thing, considering that ghostbuster toys where last in store a few years ago on clearance at big lots
Maybe they are trying to get rid of old mattel stock that isn't selling online anymore and using this as an excuse.

as with all things considering this movie, who really knows?
;o)

The set of the "original" Ghostbusters toys they are selling are re-releases of figures Mattel made as exclusives to their web store (Matty Collector) back in 2009. You can actually still buy 2-packs of the GB's with proton stream effect pieces for $50 a piece (used to be $40).

Every Target or Walmart I've been in has plenty of the new merchandise. Even saw some at a Family Dollar last week. :)

i don't really like saying that comedy is being "dumbed down" for this generation. Plenty of good and bad stuff out now JUST like back in the 80s. Try to see if a lot of stuff you found funny in the 80s holds up. Most don't.

this was posted from imdb.

it's one of those 'buddy of mine' things.. but with all we've seen, i wouldn't doubt it at this point
>>

Bill Murray's cameo.
He basically re-does his "this man has no dick" gag, except the twist is, the man he says it about is a eunach and literally has no dick.

Murray then asks the man if he sprays when he pees.

It's as bad as it sounds.
A buddy of mine on Facebook, posted a cheeky, sneaky 30 second clip taken off his phone, when he saw the flick.
>>

sounds like a paul feigette movie.

Im gonna call this a $40 million opening weekend with a total haul around $140 Million. Thats my guess.

Anyone else? Come on post up your predictions!

i'd like to think less than $10 Million. if secret life of pets is a hit with families.

total haul $54 million considering what's coming after it.

International? maybe the same.

Neil, from reading the Secret Life of Pets thread here on RPF, it sounds it is a good movie for families with kids. Hopefully this should help kill the reboot's box office take.

These don't have the proton stream thing, just a piece each of the no ghost insignia.

*ETA*

Worth maybe noting the one I have says "Mattel Canada" on the back.

This thread is getting bonkers! I can only imagine it'll be even more so the closer we get to release day. Keep up the entertaining work, guys!

I still want to do a cable news roundtable debate show with portions of this thread as the dialog.
