I love a power costume. After completing my ESB Vader for the 501st Legion i decided to enter another universe for my next project. Gene Simmons Destroyer costume. I love this character/alter ego. It is like the love child of a Kabuki dancer and an a Orc. Wish me luck!
So based on my budget this is going to be about an 80-90% accurate costume- Just so i dont get peoples hopes up. What i do hope is that this should be possible for most people to make using commonly available materials.
Fist up i made a mold for the spikes that will be attached to the arms. I got some smooth sheet plastic and cut a square base pyramid.
Then cast ten spikes. To speed up the process i made 4 molds. I cast them as solid as they will be exposed to getting bumped. As a solid i have a firm base to screw into. I used a two part resin for the spikes.
Next up for the shoulder bells i got a kids $10 construction helmet and cut the sides off it. They were a bit short so i extended with a section of flowerpot as you can see on the left one.
A hot glue gun is essential for this project. It will give a nice welded look to the edges but also hold everything together.
A coat of builders bog (Bondo type stuff) and attached the spikes, then some welding detail with the hot glue gun.
I will also be using these fixtures for most of the costume. I got these from Tandy Leather. The one on the left is permanent and bangs together with a light hammer tap. The one on the right is a screw fitting, so good for parts that im not sure about.
This is looking brilliant. I built a few of the Destroyer/Rock and Roll over armours back in 2010/2011. The arms and shoulders are EXACTLY how I made mine!
Looks great....i have an old latex destroyer costume that i bought in the mid-90s...it’s pretty cool, but hot as hell and the latex is starting to degrade.
