Found Item Buckaroo Bonzai Overthruster Case

Brundlefly,

Any chance of you taking and sharing some pictures with us? Are you (or the owner) above bribery? I've seen a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts make miracles happen.

Ted.

Just got a response today, looks like about $90 for a case painted green. I haven't gotten any indication about handles, so I'm going to get some clarification there and ask for a picture of the paint to ensure it's the right color. The turn around time for manufacturing and painting is 52 days though.

Well, perfect timing.

Kerr Avon, is the $90 in addition to the price of the case? I'm just curious.

Here are a few pictures of my case painted with Tamiya AS-17. Not a perfect match but I'm happy with it. Just another option for the rest of you builders. It cost me about $5.00.:lol

I still need to add padding top and bottom, the panel on the right side and stickers. The handle is clearly not the right one. But I wanted to show the group how the case is looking so far. Please note that the panel to hold the overthruster is just a piece of foam core with magic marker. I'm going to replace it with metal or styrene. I wanted to see how it might look all together. Details are rough but it's coming along nicely.

Tried to match the screen grab with this one.

And a few more just to get a better idea.

Excellent work on yours so far! The quoted cost is $90 per case, the paint is just part of that cost. I'll check with them on Monday to check about the handle, confirm the color with some paint sample and that it's the smooth not textured type.

Funny about the 'smooth vs. textured'. It looks to me like some of the pictures show a smooth case. But the ones with Hikara trying to shove the case under the fence to Penny has a wrinkle finish.

Looking forward to what you hear back.

And Brundlefly, thanks soooooo much for looking into the 'real McCoy' for us. It would be awesome to see the real deal.

Ted.

Nice work so far Ted.

Finished my first Overtruster a couple of days ago, its a Racprops version that was a very clean cast. Rich`s cast is perfect for the pre activated OT model and was going to do this one for the case and get one of Shawns activated versions down the track for display but when i found i had all the bits needed to do the full version, couldnt help myself. Still getting one of Shawns though.

This is a really wicked thread. Has anyone grabbed the soundbite it makes and use a micro digital playback/recorder and put a movement activated sensor to trip it? On a sidenote I found a clip and it's now my text ringtone sound.

What a great idea!~ Put a sound chip in the case and have the activation chirps work with the light indicators. Hmm.....

And a big booty thanks to B Fly for writing the owner of the real deal. I am all chills!

I've tried to figure what the ultimate hero Overthruster replica would include.

-the push buttons that release the clear rods (I swear those button release mechanisms are some kind of found part. BUT FROM WHAT???)
-the beeping sound
-a green glow somehow (I know that the green glow is shined onto it during the jet car run but it would look cool and hint at the sequence.)
-cast in metal?
-machined brass parts?

Maybe 3D modeled and printed to make a hollow cavity easier and cleaner?

T'would be sweet.

Nick

If a version with the three buttons that actually worked both ways and had the appropriate tone for each could be put together, awesome.

Mr Webber,

Great job on the overthruster! I really like the details you added to that one.

Here are a few more pictures of my case. Not quite the right foam but I'm pretty happy so far. Just need to get rid of that darn silver paint pen I used to trace the overthruster. And I need to start work on the panel to the right of the overthruster and the labels.

As to the labels, there is something on the left hand side of the case in the screen grab above. It reminds me a little bit of this symbol.

RPF member Guy Cowen who hangs out in the Studio Scale Forum said it's a scan of something from the B-Wing in Return of the Jedi. Anyone seen it before or have any idea what the symbol is? Or any thoughts of what else might be there on the side?

Some really, really cool ideas about lights and sounds. I'm lousy with electronics so looking forward to what one of you monkey boys come up with in your builds.

Cheers Ted.

It was based on the screen caps of the original.
I think your foam is fine, remember the massive difference in movie lighting. Ive put together an interpretation of the two labels that are on the top and front of the case, old school style, like a ransom note, and stromo has very generously offered to graphically put them together when time allows.

Gotta thing for special briefcases and just noticed the Pres has got a smoker.
The phone looks like a straight up vintage and the stuff on the right is a little weird. Anyone know if the " YOUR ALL PURPOSE STORM KIT" is a real item? I also see a spoon and what looks like a flick knive, strange that the big cheese is a shank man.
