I sent a message to Oliver Peoples (asking why they discontinued the OP523) and got a real quick response:
There are many reasons. First, the lenses are not safety approved by Luxottica (the popular red cancels out red and green colors, which is a safety hazard when driving). Second, it doesn't fit into the current collection, which is kept tailored and at a certain number of styles (we discontinue excellent styles all the time in an effort to keep the collection tight) - this also contributes to the limited amount of most styles. Third, apart from Fight Club fans, the frame is undesirable (not very attractive, heavy and a bit uncomfortable). We released a small quantity in 2009 to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the movie, but only the red lenses sold (we made them in the original orange too).
Hope that helps!
