Female WW2 Captain America [Pic Heavy]

Thinking of adding some more props to this to give it a bit extra.
DBCooper kindly added some stuff in the paper props thread so I'm thinking of using the newspaper clipping of Peggy and making a replica of Cap's compass. I know it's never seen with the rescue outfit but I'm not really going for screen accuracy anyway, plus it's a nice little conversation piece for my collection.

Also, I'm still unsure over whether or not to change the jacket. I want one that's got a bit more screen accuracy going for it, but I don't want to have to button it up all the time. The ones with the nice lapels always look strange when they are open. Anyway, if anyone could help out I would be very grateful, unfortunately this is a low budget build so I won't be able to get anything too pricey.

Just purchased a new jacket for only £30.
It's cropped so you'll still be able to see the corset when it's zipped up and it doesn't fold over when it's open.
I'll just have to do some work on distressing it and give it a coat of dye to make it a tad darker, since it looks a bit too red for my liking, but I love the shape.

Also managed to bag an old military compass on ebay for just 99p. It's almost exactly like Cap's, minus the picture of Peggy of course, so I'm super happy with today.

Oddly, my wife and I have started putting a Miss Captain America costume together for her to wear on Halloween and we purchased the same spats exactly off ebay (they've not arrived yet). We really like your costume, especially the corset, it looks very professional, well made. Looking forward to seeing the MK2

Excellent purchases! Since you are doing a female version of Captain America, are you going to put a picture of Steve Rogers in the compass? I think that would be a neat touch.

Hmmm tempting. I really love Peggy so I think I'm going to stick with her in my compass. That would be a cute touch though. Oooooo decisions decisions

I bought the dye from a shoe repair store. It's technically leather shoe dye but it'll work on any leather, you'll just need a couple of bottle as they're a bit small.
I used 2 Dylon 50ml bottles for about £3.50 each. They covered the entire jacket but I think I should have treated it or something because there were areas that were darker than others, but for the distressed effect it doesn't really matter anyway it just came across as battle damage.

If anyone has any tips for dyeing their jackets it would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks for that Fly4v. Your thread was ridiculously helpful when making this costume :)

I've invested in some proper rubber washing up gloves this time. The last time I used really thin cheap clear rubber gloves and didn't notice that they'd managed to rip on almost every finger which resulted in dark brown finger tips for days. Looked like I'd had a tanning accident

Thanks for the complement but this costume and all its greatness is all you.
The jacket you have will make it even more so. I Look forward to seeing the next set of pictures.
Guess you want it done in time for April 4th.

Well the winter solider comes out on the 26th of March here. Which just happens to also be my 22nd birthday :) So I don't think I'm going to wear this out to the screening as I'll be going out for a meal and stuff afterwards, so I'd be stuck in it all day. Might have to wear some of it though

Thanks Fly4v :)

My Dog tags came today. The P at the bottom is a bit too far to the left but the woman said that's as far as it'd go. But I like them anyway.

My jacket also came and it fits perfectly. going to go pick up some more leather dye tomorrow and get it dyed.

I like this alot! The picture fits perfectly in the compass. I cannot wait to see the jacket, hopefully the dying goes well.

Well the spats came and they are lovely. Fit like a glove, really really pleased with them.

Managed to get a few little bits done today as well. Decided I'm not willing to spend £35 on a holster as it's not a necessity for the costume and I really don't have the money for it.
So, I went out and bought a piece of craft foam for £1 and whipped up a quick holster. Also managed to pick up a lovely bright blue childs play gun for £1 from the toy isle which fits the holster quite well. Good day all round really.

I also managed to get a US cartridge belt on ebay for £7.30 so that will be arriving soon and my outfit will be complete :)

Good call on the holster, from the pictures I would say that the craft foam will look the part unless someone gets really close and looks carefully at it. I'm confident that your two quid were better spent than the 35 would have been.

The shield is amazing! What specific paints did you use? I'm working on doing a WW2 Captain America shield as well. Could you post a link to where you learned the Vaseline and weathering trick from? I, like you, am making my shield out of wood and I have really no clue on how to make it look like metal let alone weather it to the beautiful state you did yours.

This is going to be my first build ever so wish me luck. Any advice, tips, and tricks would be greatly appreciated.
