Female WW2 Captain America [Pic Heavy]

Brilliant idea Bayouwolf thank you :)
I think that will be the kind of look I go for with this shield.
No point me having 2 battle damaged ones.

This turned out really great! The leather scale top was a nice addition, and I love the paint job you did on the shield. And the boots are perfect! =)

Have you thought about trying a short bustled skirt with it? Between that, the corset, and the boots, it'd be an interesting, almost steampunk variation for you to have in your wardrobe!

Hmmm Originally it was going to be a dress. But a skirt could look really good. Didn't want to go too fem with it but it's worth looking into thanks :)

And Ironmanpreston constructive criticism only thank you. If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all.

You are FRAKING FABULOUS in this - and it is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!

You are beautiful!!!!! I LOVE IT - I currently have two steel capt. shields I am working on.

:$
Hoping to really improve on this one soon. Maybe add a holster and some spats to make it a bit more screen accurate.
Your work really makes me want to have a go at some of the other cap uniforms. Especially the round shield, that's a beauty.
:confused This was your first? WOW, even better. :cheers

Hi there
So this is one of my two costumes for London Film and Comic con in July
I started both in late January and I've been meaning to post a thread on the forum for a while but now it majority of it's finished I thought I'd start one up

I wanted to go for Cap's WW2 outfit with his first shield. So I started off with the major components, ie the shield and the helmet, seeing as they would make or break the costume.
The shield was originally made out of a steel sheet metal, courtesy of my father, but I later found out I wouldn't be able to take it with me around the con for obvious reasons so I needed a thinner lighter material that I would be deemed safe to take around the con. In the end I used the back off an old frame from IKEA.

Here's it after it's been cut out. I used a curved piece of wood which was then screwed to the back of the board to keep the shape of the shield. The screws were then covered up with a light layer of bodyfiller.

Here's it after a layer of black and then silver paint.

I then used vaseline to mark out bits where I wanted the paint to flake off. Then I proceeded to give it a coat of white, repeat the vaseline technique, tape it off and add a coat of red.

After the coat of red I realised the stripes were too far up and there wasn't enough room for the blue and the stars so I remeasured everything, taped off the new line for the blue, taped off the stars and then went straight to painting the blue layer.

After weathering it this is the finished result.

Thanks for the complement. Yeah, I'm kind of a one horse show.
Yet, there are some great metal shields out there but my second was just a modification of an airsoft.
It was done without power tools and I broke out the specifics of the airsoft shield into a separate build if you want to have a go.

Edit: Sorry, but including the heater shield guess it would be the third shield, don't want to be called on the carpet about the math. ;)

What is the airsoft shield made out of?
I really want a nice metal one. But at the same time I want one I would be able to use at cons and I'm pretty sure they don't allow metal props so I'd have to have a lighter less "dangerous" one

It's some kind of plastic with metal mounts set in the back.
While not as nice as the aluminum shields but has better heft and less flex than the steel saucer.
Much safer to let the kids play with.

Hmmm that is tempting.
I could try and paint it up to look like metal. Maybe try the spun effect with wire wool or something.
I just really want a metal one. They're stunning.

Brilliant! Thank you so much for the link.
I'll definitely be looking into that. It looks pretty good, plus it'll be good practice to paint up one of those before I had a go at a metal one

Okay, so finally purchased tickets to this years London Film and Comic Con. I also managed to get a photopass with none other than wait for it... Stan Lee!
I'm actually going to be standing with Stan The Man. Freaking out!!!

Anyway. This means I need to make sure my Fem Cap is as good as I can possibly make it. So NEW EVERYTHING. It needs to be perfect.
As I start I ordered some spats for my boots which came in the mail today.
They're actual spats worn by the nurses in WW2 and they're super nice.
Unfortunately they don't fit, they are ridiculously tiny. So back to the drawing board.

Thinking of just making a pair seeing as there's no way to make these fit.

As much as I loved my first attempt I'm thinking of scrapping most of the clothing. So, new jacket, new shirt, new spats. As well as a holster ans a gun.
I could do with opinions. I'm definitely keeping the corset and I like the look of the shorts so if I did change them they'd be for something similar.

Those spats remind me of the boot covers some guys wore when I did some civil war re-enactments... good times.

I am really glad to see that you are still working on this, can't wait to see more!
