Face off season 4

to answer a few of the questions that i saw. Yes some of the past contestants work in the industry ..of course most of those actually worked in the industry before they were on ( In some cases, they even worked for their "Judges") Patrick was filming the sequel to 300 during season 3 AND 4 ( they were shot back to back..season four was taped long ago)
I can see that, especially season 1. Is the currently airing season the one they were casting for this past Spring? Given how "refreshed" the judges looked last season, compared to the current one, I wonder if they are being aired out of sequence.
He was not an original judge even on season one ..he replaced someone else before taping began.
Would this be Steve Johnson, or someone else?

You dont see the whole process because the contestants dont actually partake of the whole process. All molds are run by techs at the end of the day. Costumes are not fabricated by them ..and all the concept art you see are by the same hand. oh .and dont worry .. The Judges didnt really decide who stayed and went ..just like America didnt ( producers wont trust ratings surges to anyone else)
Then why are they locking and breaking?

season 3 and 4 were taped virtually back to back. Yes to Steve. They make the molds ..they just dont run the foam or silicone ...the snapping of handles ...well that happened on season one ..i forget the episode ..i think they focused on Anthony's mold handle snapping ..but in truth it was happening to many of the molds ( i think thats an episode they were working with syntactic dough) ..they only edited it that way. As for after the material has been run ..molds can be tricky ..an undercut missed...not enough release ..who knows ..but when working fast and not popping them correctly, anything can happen

I just wish they focused more on the actual process instead of all the staged fake soap-opera reality-show crapola.

I liked "Hot Set" too, because I found the process of set design and construction to be interesting--but apparently I was the only one, since virtually nobody else watched the show. ;)

Jeez, so much train wreck in that challenge... I really liked Anthony and Amur's (?) Hindu-based demon. She was beautiful and looked sufficiently demonic that I knew that's what she was supposed to be. The others though... sheesh. I liked Eric F's horns on the Chort demon, but other than that, I didn't think they deserved to be top looks. Everything aside from the Hindu demon just looked half-assed.

I caught an episode of Top Chef the other day where the chefs did such a crappy job they refused to name anyone a winner. I wouldn't be surprised to see something like that happen on Face Off with this group. Anthony seems to be the only one who has any actual skill/talent.

I liked it too although I didn't like the format of it. It just felt off... or had a weird kind of campy feeling to it when it came to the judging etc. I don't know, it's hard to explain. I like the judges on Face Off and I never had the same liking to the folks on Hot Set, even if they were key players. Perhaps it would've worked better if there were a set amount of contestants and each week one got booted like the standard format of these shows? I know it may be a space thing, as the areas needed are huge but, anyway, liked what we did get to see though.

I missed this last week's episode and from what I heard, it wasn't any better than the super hero challenge. That's ...sad. I know I said I wish there wasn't as many 'already in the biz' kind of contestants, but how did some of these people actually make it on to the show? :(

Still can't believe that the snake demon was safe! I thought it really sucked, especially with the, flaccid snake head hand.

the only one who can do anything is anthony.

the weird guy was all like: yey monster challenge, thats totally my style. and he created a generic looking demon, with a bad paint job, after blatantly announcing: time management is my speciality.

also, the black haired chick was like: i must be blind, just because someone said someone elses work was better than hers. she thinks she is so good, and cant produce anything worth anything. talk about illusions of grandeur.

Alright guys, I'm a bit behind, but I'm still gonna opine (see what I did there? Huuuh?)
Ep 1: Mountain Goblin was obviously the best, but I also enjoyed the look of the desert one (skull motif was a very nice touch) and the jungle one (the short, square jaw was an unexpected aesthetic choice that really made it work). I did not like the Ice Goblin. The entire thing seemed sticky, and the manufacture techniques on all but the silicon mask were awful. Ice is crystalline. It tends to look either hexagonal or rounded. Blobby icicles that look like blue mucus? No thanks. I think we all knew Volcano Goblin was gonna fail when they went for a dunce cap as a crown.
Ep 2: The black haired woman who was wearing blue lipstick seriously needs to stop crying. It's awful. It was unfortunate that they went with DC, as in my opinion, Marvel has better history with characters that need makeup, but that seemed to matter little to the contestants. Much as I liked Dick Gritty, he isn't a superhero. Comic book character? Sure. Superhero? No way. The only one that was any sort of good was Infernal Core, and it wasn't even complete.
I'm a little afraid of catching up, from what I'm reading here. But maybe they'll get better.

Just watched this weeks show last night and I've got to say that I'm pretty disapointed this season. Maybe it's what the producers want, but Anthony is going to sweep. I can also see it where the producers sweep the rug out from under him like last season and pick someone else (who is crap) to win.

As someone who is just starting to tinker around in this realm I wish they would spend more time on the process. I want to see how they get this stuff made, something that might be a tad educational instead of just running the same video sequence every episode to explain that this is the "mold" process or the "application" process, etc.

Well at least what they have now is better than that idiotic pig-nose thing they had last time.

But of course they CAN'T show more of the process, since none of the contestants is actually DOING any of the process. ;)

The show is a soap opera, just like every other "reality show" is. Nothing more, nothing less, nothing else.

Just watched the new newest episode this week. I am just stunned at how ****ty the work is this season with the exception of Anthony. If he doesn't win, I'll be pissed. He's proven that not only does he know how to sculpt and paint well, but that he can think outside the box in terms of design.

That Chort demon was pretty garbage too with the exception of the horns. Even Michael Westmore said "don't sacrifice time for paint to do animatronics" and yet gothboy did just that. The judges are more forgiving this season too ie. Asian girls missing back piece and gothboys Chort open mouth. In previous seasons, they've told them about sculpting open mouths because they can't emote or anything like that.

Asian girls feet makeup this week were garbage too. The toes are siting like 3 inches off the floor and you can see the boot underneath.

I also hope that fat red haired girl with cancer doesn't start using the tumor/cancer stuff as an excuse or to garner sympathy. As soon as she mentioned it in the first episode I thought "welp, here we go". Admittedly as bad as her face makeup was, her partners back piece and those stupid looking cane/leg things were worse.

Also black haired chick who cried during DC challenge.....I can't stand her. She thinks she's amazing and the best there but she sucks. "Oh I just have to beat Anthony and that's all I need to worry about". The only day she'll beat him is if a stage light falls and he becomes a quadriplegic.

I also like how that house dude was a total ***** to his partner and yet her sculpt looked killed compared to his limp dicked snake puppet.

So far I hate Gothboy, black haired annoyance.....ok I pretty much can't stand most of em.

I feel better getting all that off my chest.

Believe it or not, they actually are doing the work. It's difficult for someone who doesn't know the process to follow, but I can tell exactly who's doing what and why. Now, I'll grant you that many make pretty severe manufacturing mistakes. I was especially not a fan of either Glass Man or the Ice King, just because of the manufacturing failures. But they are working.

As crappy as the leg canes were, I was rooting for Autumn to get sent home. The fact that she honestly thought hers was better than Chort or Deumus was sickening, and that kind of blindness will kill you in the industry. Eric F doesn't bother me as much as he bothers everyone else here because I know people like him, but I do feel like he should've judged the electronics a bit better. For something as silly as blinking eyes, it was unnecessary.

Face Off Recap: When Hell Freezes Over | TVgasm This sums up my feelings on the episode. Normally I'm cool with the last minute twists, but this one was just stupid. None of these characters look like ice monsters of any sort. They just look blue. When I hear the phrase "hell has frozen over", I think of taking the hot-and-arid demons and showing how they now have to cope with the cold, not making them instantly adapt to the climate. I wanted to see shivering imps wrapped from head to toe in the furs of dead things.

Yeah, Autumns sculpts aren't really all that great but she thinks she's the ****. It's like buying a Mazda 3 and saying it's so much better than a Dodge Challenger SRT10.
