It's possible Rey knew the stories of Luke and Han Solo but the stories weren't completely detailed on what model ship the Millennium Falcon was. So this whole time she had it in her backyard but never knew it was the actual Falcon.
And I agree about hearing stories about Luke and The Force. I wouldn't expect someone to know details down to the model of ship that was the Millennium Falcon.
Maybe I missed it, but if flying straight through the shields of Star Killer base from hyperspace was possible, why didn't the Rebel fleet do that in ROTJ? Heck, why didn't the X-wings do it in TFA?
I didn't really think its flight characteristics were too far off from what we had seen before. It did have a little more freedom of movement but I chalk that up to using a CG model rather than a physical one. It did bug me how many hard hits it took with no ill effects. I wondered when it crash landed on Star Killer base with the gear up, would they have even be able to open the boarding ramp? Maybe they crawled out of the top hatches? I don't recall if it shows them actually exiting the ship.
The usage of the hyperdrive in this one did seem weird. In ANH it took several minutes for the navicomputer to come up with a good, safe trajectory and now we're flying into and out of hyperspace with wreckless abandon, under conditions we might've assumed would've torn them apart. Maybe I missed it, but if flying straight through the shields of Star Killer base from hyperspace was possible, why didn't the Rebel fleet do that in ROTJ? Heck, why didn't the X-wings do it in TFA? Btw, where is the Rebel fleet anyways? I guess that's a topic for another thread.
I hated everything about the falcon in this. It was JJ trek all over again. It moved unlike it ever had, it did things unlike it ever had. Coming out of warp in atmosphere? Going into warp from inside the hangar?
That's just smoke and mirrors.
- Rey seems to know everything about the ship and all the modifications done to it by its previous owner and how he got his hands on it. She also knows the story about Han Solo and Luke Skywalker by heart. She knows the Millennium Falcon did the Kessel run (although she got the parsecs wrong).
BUT all this time she doesnt know the name of the ship??? That's strange in my opinion.
Don't forget this is the same director that turned the Enterprise into a submarine.
The YT-1300 light freighter (which is what the Falcon is) is a fairly common ship type when it comes to smugglers. It's not like the Falcon is the only ship out there that looks like this (though it is the only one we see in the films), so she probably thought "what are the odds of this famous ship winding up on MY little backwater planet?" and didn't give it much thought at all.
As for her knowing the stories, it's no different than anyone else knowing the story of the leaders of the rebellion. She grew up as a scavenger, probably listening to stories from older scavs who saw the battles and pilots blowing through on stop overs, etc. They would certainly attract the attention of a young girl looking for good in the universe who has a particular affinity for things mechanical.
Okay, but then after The first order discovers BB-8 is on it they're talking like: "It's on the Millennium Falcon", not "it's on a YT-1300 type light freighter", which would make sence on their behalf. They know EXACTLY what ship that is and Rey doesn't???

Actually no... At first they only said that it was a Corellian-type YT transport when it was reported that they had escaped the planet... it was only after the freighter incident with Han and the other smugglers when the Irish smuggler guy radioed the First Order that Han Solo had BB-8 and that they were on board the Millennium Falcon....
