EP VII Millennium Falcon

Re: Thoughts about the Millennium Falcon in "Star Wars The Force Awakens"

Obviously after loosing the original radar dish Han coated the ship in liquid diamond.

Re: Thoughts about the Millennium Falcon in "Star Wars The Force Awakens"

It's possible Rey knew the stories of Luke and Han Solo but the stories weren't completely detailed on what model ship the Millennium Falcon was. So this whole time she had it in her backyard but never knew it was the actual Falcon.

And I agree about hearing stories about Luke and The Force. I wouldn't expect someone to know details down to the model of ship that was the Millennium Falcon.

Plus there were THOUSANDS of YT-1300 freighters produced by Corellian Engineering Corporation. It's hardly a one-of-a-kind design. It was sheer luck that it happened to be THE Falcon.

Re: Thoughts about the Millennium Falcon in "Star Wars The Force Awakens"

Maybe I missed it, but if flying straight through the shields of Star Killer base from hyperspace was possible, why didn't the Rebel fleet do that in ROTJ? Heck, why didn't the X-wings do it in TFA?

Because those guys aren't HAN SOLO!!!

The Falcon coming to rest on the snow.....I'd say the shields were still up......she has a deflector layer,...cant imagine Chewie turning them off

Earlier in the movie:

“And put up the shields—if they work!”
“Shield controls are on the other side of the console,” she shot back. “Not so easy without a copilot!”

Re: Thoughts about the Millennium Falcon in "Star Wars The Force Awakens"

I didn't really think its flight characteristics were too far off from what we had seen before. It did have a little more freedom of movement but I chalk that up to using a CG model rather than a physical one. It did bug me how many hard hits it took with no ill effects. I wondered when it crash landed on Star Killer base with the gear up, would they have even be able to open the boarding ramp? Maybe they crawled out of the top hatches? I don't recall if it shows them actually exiting the ship.

The usage of the hyperdrive in this one did seem weird. In ANH it took several minutes for the navicomputer to come up with a good, safe trajectory and now we're flying into and out of hyperspace with wreckless abandon, under conditions we might've assumed would've torn them apart. Maybe I missed it, but if flying straight through the shields of Star Killer base from hyperspace was possible, why didn't the Rebel fleet do that in ROTJ? Heck, why didn't the X-wings do it in TFA? Btw, where is the Rebel fleet anyways? I guess that's a topic for another thread.

In ANH he wasn't expecting to be chased. He was just bopping over to Mos Eisley for a drink and to look for Uber fares.

In TFA he's had time to run calculations in advance. Still, there's a slim margin of error - (at least as narrow as navigating through an asteroid field, I'm sure) so not just any pilot's going to attempt it. Think of it like pulling a Crazy Ivan.

Re: Thoughts about the Millennium Falcon in "Star Wars The Force Awakens"

Shields and star destroyer metal plating should be able to take a lot .

Ray has been scavenging electronics from very complex ships, I'm sure it's advantageous to know what your trading in, but also she calls out "we have a pilot" so the tech used in the falcon is old , well known by experienced pilots ?

Re: Thoughts about the Millennium Falcon in "Star Wars The Force Awakens"

The only time the "come out of hyperspace into a planet's orbit" ever worked for me was during the escape from new caprica on galactica.

It was so well directed and it was a perfect tactical maneuver. That was one of the all time great star ship moves ever.

And one of the reasons is that there was such a cost to it. The galactica was beat to hell after that. It could probably never do it again.

Re: Thoughts about the Millennium Falcon in "Star Wars The Force Awakens"

As said, it's ABRAMS! This is the guy who made the JJ Prise go under water!
He doesn't care about that kind of stuff and never will, just what looks good and exciting,
so suck it up, the JJ Falcon is capable of amazing things.

Re: Thoughts about the Millennium Falcon in "Star Wars The Force Awakens"

I had no problems with the way they portrayed the Falcon in TFA, it didn't bug me that it crashed into trees without getting smashed up, I just figured it had its shields on or it had a particularly strong hull since it repels blasters shots with no problems. I'm rather surprised that anybody would have a problem with its strength, but I'm betting that a lot of these critics would be just as critical if the Falcon got dinged and dented up from the trees and snow plowing.

Something that I noticed and liked was that you got glimpses of the gun in Finn's turret facing perpendicular to his facing like it should if he was trying to hit any TIEs that were in front or behind the Falcon since the only time we should see the gun facing straight away from the gunner(s), like in ANH, is when the enemy is directly above or below the Falcon. However, is there some sort of built in artificial gravity that's always on in the turrets? Because they showed Finn as sitting upright when in reality he should be looking down at the ground and held in the seat by the seat belts, if there are any.

Re: Thoughts about the Millennium Falcon in "Star Wars The Force Awakens"

Was the whole "ship of riddles" thing "fixed" in TFA? What I mean is, did the full size set match up to the CGI model or miniature?

Re: Thoughts about the Millennium Falcon in "Star Wars The Force Awakens"

I find it crazy how much whining people do about stuff that doesn't matter.

So the Falcon is more maneuverable in TFA...

in Empire Strikes Back, did people whine as much? Go watch ANH, the scene where they first leave Mos Eisley... Han needs to lose a Star Destroyer while the make the jump to light speed... so he casually veers left.

In Empire Strikes Back when the falcon can suddenly maneuver an astroid field did everyone get all "Oh so now the falcon can move quickly? that doesn't quite fit with what I know of it's previous, limited screen time"

Gads.

Re: Thoughts about the Millennium Falcon in "Star Wars The Force Awakens"

I think I'll start another thread the costumes of TFA and a few other ones on TFA. Because no one will stop me, apparently.

Re: Thoughts about the Millennium Falcon in "Star Wars The Force Awakens"

I hated everything about the falcon in this. It was JJ trek all over again. It moved unlike it ever had, it did things unlike it ever had. Coming out of warp in atmosphere? Going into warp from inside the hangar?

That's just smoke and mirrors.

WARP ????? wrong franchise my friend

Re: Thoughts about the Millennium Falcon in "Star Wars The Force Awakens"

- Rey seems to know everything about the ship and all the modifications done to it by its previous owner and how he got his hands on it. She also knows the story about Han Solo and Luke Skywalker by heart. She knows the Millennium Falcon did the Kessel run (although she got the parsecs wrong).
BUT all this time she doesnt know the name of the ship??? That's strange in my opinion.

The YT-1300 light freighter (which is what the Falcon is) is a fairly common ship type when it comes to smugglers. It's not like the Falcon is the only ship out there that looks like this (though it is the only one we see in the films), so she probably thought "what are the odds of this famous ship winding up on MY little backwater planet?" and didn't give it much thought at all.

As for her knowing the stories, it's no different than anyone else knowing the story of the leaders of the rebellion. She grew up as a scavenger, probably listening to stories from older scavs who saw the battles and pilots blowing through on stop overs, etc. They would certainly attract the attention of a young girl looking for good in the universe who has a particular affinity for things mechanical.

Don't forget this is the same director that turned the Enterprise into a submarine.

Just wait till episode 8, Rey and Luke climb down to the bottom of the island and the falcon is gone. They look around bewildered. Then suddenly the Fakcon rises out of the sea and Chewie gives a big Wookie roar!

I called it first! [emoji12]

Okay, but then after The first order discovers BB-8 is on it they're talking like: "It's on the Millennium Falcon", not "it's on a YT-1300 type light freighter", which would make sence on their behalf. They know EXACTLY what ship that is and Rey doesn't???

They can read it's IFF given off by its transponder?

Actually no... At first they only said that it was a Corellian-type YT transport when it was reported that they had escaped the planet... it was only after the freighter incident with Han and the other smugglers when the Irish smuggler guy radioed the First Order that Han Solo had BB-8 and that they were on board the Millennium Falcon....

that was an awkward moment in the movement btw: Han Solo stumbling onto the Millennium falcon after all these years within minutes after it takes of for the 1st time in years, getting boarded by the smugglers at the same time. Crowded place in the universe.
