You can also see in the first pic by positronic the one with the obi stunt saber in the center of the pic. That there's a box in the upper right corner with green, pink/red, and yellow strips. Maybe someone can identify that box. It maybe the box the colored tapes were held in.

I also notice to the left the stunt blades. One of them looks like it has a threaded rod or a smaller supporting rod within it. What's up with that? How exactly are the Ep3 blades held in place?

well from what i learned some of the blades were set into the hilt by screws espically anakins,same for the obi stunts w/ the bigger necks :rolleyes

but the ones w/ smaller, more accurate necks the carbon rod wouldnt go in to were it was secure so they put a smaller rod inside the bottom of the carbon rod so the blade would secure into the saber :D

so alot of them were permanetly fixed in the saber some were resin in, others were even set in with set screws.... :confused, and they didnt have to worry since only 2 or 3 blades broke during the course of filming... but they had many stunts just in case and if is they were set in with a screw they would reuse the handle :D

and yes most of the sabers were made of VERY STRONG liquid resin/plastic with some metal parts

Where did you get this info? No questioning it's validity. Just wondering if you know someone from the inside?

Also why the various methods for securing the blade. Could you illustrate how they were secured. It's hard for me to visualize that you've described.

sorry i dont know wut i was thinking............im stupid..... they were all set in by set screws i meant to say that the ones i made are resin into the hilt NOT the screen used ones ....srry


YES i know an insider

i met HIM at a certain event a few months ago i told him if he knew how they were made and he said he helped asemble them....


they had a resin that had metal propeties, which made it prefect for a stunt saber

which saber are you interested in , then i will give you more info on that saber
 
And yet you have been contradicted by images, and what not and you still profess to know all this information...because of an insider.

And for the record, when I asked gillard if any blades broke, he said not one did, not even Ewans broke and he himself had been using his particular blade for 3 years with it not showing signs of breaking.

Your facts need to be checked I think.
 
since you talked to gillard, i am going to believe you over the othere person about the blades although i believe everything else

please tell me everything nick said im so currious my head is about to explode :lol

I've held nothing back.

I asked directly how they were made and put together, I even found out they used Bamboo for some of teh big end duel. The fact that he told me how they were made and why they were made in such a way is what I said over the course of the 4 pages here.

However, no matter how many times I have said what was said or used photographic proof DarthJRW there hasn't seem fit to take it because it didn't fit within his scope of what he wanted, namly resin hilts.

I was explicitly told and illustrated how the hilts were made while Nick demonstrated with a Graflex. He seemed fairly forthcoming about it all and I would take his own word over that of some insider source. I've shared the entire 45 minutes I've spent with the man, take it as you will though. I learned alot and will pass it all on, as I have.
 
After talking too a KILWELL rep here in New Zealand, from what I understood is that the stunt sabers & blades will be offered for sale in the not too distant future via one of Lucasfilm's license holders.

Anyone care to guess which holder that could be. ;)
 
I didnt meant to come off as if I think your holding back... lol I just want to know all there is to know.
 
No problem Positronic, I do too, hense taking the oppurtunity to ask :)

As for why Bamboo...its much lighter than carbon fiber and they could get really fast with them. Bamboo is still used for practice weapons, so its tough. It was only used in part of the duel. Gillard didn't like it too much though...
 
were can you get bamboo rods ?????

Bamboo is strong, I've used it on a stunt saber just to see how it swas before I knew about them using it in the movies, I saw a broken bug catcher and thought I'd try it out. :p
 
Look for a wicker/cane supply in your local phone book JRW.

They should have both bamboo, and Rattan (which is used by the SCA because it doesnt splinter like bamboo does.)

so they had an adpator stuck or glued on the outside of the carbon rod so it would thread into the hilt?????

Gillard told me they had an adapter fitted to thread into the saber hilts and then 2-4 set screws to told the blade as well. Him and I specifically talked about it at C3, he was demonstatting to the Graflex I had with me.

As for the holes, they have to attach the hilt parts together somehoe, maybe its kind of a tube of the tops that slide in and decrease the overall width of the hole, i don't know.

This is just from what I've seen and what Gillard himself told me, we talked a bit on it, imagine my surprise on finding that they used bamboo in some shots.

Perhaps Chris you should pull some strings and check out one yourself ;)
