Elysium Props

Here are some more pictures. You can really tell the line on these. Also last picture is for size for me.

Yikes. Those lines are hideous. Doesn't seem like Weta would pass that off as a hero prop. Must be a background or stunt piece, like you said.

Yeah no way on the hero prop...but I think they just made it for comic con cause it wasn't behind any glass or anything it was just out in the open. I don't think people would have the public just come up and touch it.

I wonder what that is. Solid rubber? Foam-filled rubber? Fiberglass clamshell? And what the hero guns are...

I have the "Making of" book on the way, like I assume most of you do as well, and the wait is killing me.

This weekend all will be revealed!

Sharlto Copley is giving away his hero sword used during the filming of Elysium. This contest is open to American residents only. More giveaways for fans in other countries is in the pipeline.

"WANT TO WIN KRUGER'S SWORD? Hi guys - i've decided to give away my beloved sword to one lucky facebook fan. Yup, it's the one and only actual "hero sword" I used in the film. We had other stunt ones, but this was the only "hero" one that I had to be careful not to damage during filming. It's made of aircraft grade aluminum. I'm sorry but due to legal issues, we are only able to offer this contest to American residents. Will have to find some more stuff to give away for other countries later. "

I really like the look of those impact plates on the webgear. They look so heavy duty and utilitarian.
My favorite comment on that page is "What about the fokken prawns??"

Saw this today. Great movie, and now I have a list a MILE LONG of badass stuff to build! So much cool stuff I lost count. Homing detonators are first up...

And what the ChemRail does... holy crap.

SHUSH!
Okay, no. It's my own fault for coming into this thread. I won't be able to see the movie until it hits the $2 theater (because it's less frustrating to sit through an hour of people flashing their cellphones if I'm only losing $2, instead of $8)

For those who mentioned that the space-station bears similarities to other designs...

This is all you need to know:

Not sure why you're directing that at me, since I wasn't commenting on the other similarities to that story, just the fact that the torical space-station concept is well established, not some unique design thought up by a single individual. I was referring more to the mention of 2001 than anything, and simply as a "hey guys, this is actually a 'real thing', pretty interesting, check it out".

ST-like designs for a space-station are featured in dozens, if not hundreds, of other sci-fi stories/movies/comics for close to 40 years. They look cool and have a proven way of achieving artifical gravity, why wouldn't you go for it.

By the look of it, none of this pertains to the Tiphares thing, since its a completely seperate design, and not a space station.

Tiphares dangles off of a space station-sort-of-thing. There is a giant ring that encircles the entire planet. It's held in place by Earth's gravity, while not actually making physical contact. Tiphares dangles off of it from an enormous column, which is visible in the image I posted.

red4: Now, that sounds like a cooler design altogether! :)

I'm loving the design of Elysium judging by the trailers, checking it out in IMAX tomorrow.

For those that have the Art book, how good are the robot references? I thought they were freaking awesome and would love to make a head for police and the Medics.

Oh and FWIW: The garbage doesn't come from Elysium, Earth is the result of years of pollution and over population; better known as LA. :lol And Matt Damon isn't a cyborg, just equipped with an Exoskeleton. ;):thumbsup Though from what I read I really need to give Battle Angel Alita a shot, looks like my cup of tea!

thereby turning him into a cyborg. It's cybernetic, and attached directly to his organism. Therefore, he is a cybernetic organism - a cyborg.

And yes, you should read Battle Angel. I have read it 4 times, and never get bored. I recommend the 9 main volumes. The stuff after it, called "Last Order", is kind of... bleh.

ah, I'm more of the Star Trek definition where a Cybernetic being can't function without it's devices and vice versa.

In any case, here's some references lifted off the Civil Cooperation Bureau. Looks like a pep of the top portion, canisters for the face, and laser cut sides with integrated fan; and of course all the awesome greebles. Time to start modeling!
