DST WOK PHASER... Who got theirs?!?

When I put my P2 in overload, everything lights up. If I remove the P1 everything goes off. Sounds like yours works differently then mine? Does your P1 go into overload on it's own?

I just tested mine, and it works like JW said... put it in overload, pull off the P1, and everything stays lit (all white and red LEDs). No buttons are active, and you can't do anything with it until you reattach to the p2. Pulling the p2 trigger at that point completes the "overload" routine. So basically when you're pulling off the p1 you're preventing it from getting the trigger signal, so it just waits.

Do people really have phasers that don't work like this? Could it be a circuit board change...?

The color on all mine (I have 12) also resembles "titanium" more than champagne gold. There is not a touch of gold in the color as far as I can tell. Unless you are talking about the control buttons. The only gold one I have seen is FHC's test shot version.

I Wish They had released the TNG Phaser Rifile as a toy replica... it is better than nothing... while we can criticize the quality/accuracy of the Playmates Role Play toys...they were better than the Mego toys and anything else similiar prior to them....and while the quality/accuracy of the Playmates toys isn't as a good as AA/DST or Master Replicas stuff---at least they came out on schedule and easy to find (wide distro) and had a nice variety.... Thanks..

Note: I have been urging AA/DST to make a First Contact Phaser Rifle Toy Replica-- BUT as a laser tag type of toy---but they won't accept the idea.--Thoughts ?

All right fine, maybe the Playmates phaser rifle would have been a perfect replica. Point taken.

But as to all the prop-toys that Playmates actually did produce, and with the exception of the TMP phaser (I don't know about any of the Bajoran stuff, I never owned any of it), I don't think the items were particularly accurate. The TOS tricorder was absurdly small. The First Contact phaser was too large. The Trek 5 Assault phaser was too small. The McCoy TOS medical scanner was way too big. The TOS communicator was wonky in a number of ways. The TOS phaser was a reasonable replica - of a Mark English fake. :lol

So let's just call it a draw and say that there would have been something wrong with a Playmates TNG rifle and leave it at that. :rolleyes

Hmmm, mine seems to vary now. Sometimes the P1 stays on when removed, sometimes it turns off. If it's on when replaced, sometimes it stays on sometimes it goes off :lol

I think it's due to how carefully I replace it. If the pins make contact and then briefly break contact while putting the P1 on, it cancels everything and turns off.

As for the color, champaign gold is what I'd call it. Not yellow, just a hint of gold. Like white wine or Ginger Ale :lol In any case, I'm re paintin' it so it don't matter :cool

The phaser looks so much better with the correct tape on it. Thanks go out to Zodou!:cool

You're quite welcome Robiwon and I agree, the phaser does look better with a more accurate tape.

The color of this thing does seem to change depending on light conditions. I too have noticed a golden hue when viewed under certain lights (My halogen lamp) and then a lack of gold when viewed in others, nature of the color I guess.

I'm still repainting it, I needs me an acc'rate phaser! :cool

There are a couple of reasons why DST is unwilling and/or unwilling to produce such a product. First, the size of a rifle would take up more shelf space and some retailers might be put off by that. Also, cost would be higher, which could inhibit the number of sales needed to justify a run of such a product. Lastly, lasers have to be licensed by the FDA. It is a complicated and costly procedure to get licensing to produce laser-based products. There would have to be enough profit to make it worth it and Trek isn't exactly setting the retail world on fire right now. And, putting it in a more costly product, as mentioned before, could also mean lower sales.

I don't have pictures but I took the P2 apart over theweekend. Yeah, those P2 plugs are long! I had to drill out the one on the tail end. It's O.K. as I will be puttying and sanding them smooth for a repaint. I also plan on doing this with the trigger and making a working plunger. If you remove the plugs and two screws from the side of the body you can pop off the very top of the P2. It is held in place by tabs. Same snappy push buttons in here as well. Lots of empty space and definately enough room to add some lead weights for added heft. I'll try and get some pics of it up opened up tomorrow.

Received mine yesterday. Absolutely an awesome toy...perhaps one of the best I've used from DST so far.

I'm going to burn through so many batteries with this thing. ;)

Finally had a chance to finish my upgrades. I Didn't do much, but I think it's improved an already great toy. :)

I repainted the phaser with GM 253.

I replaced the foil stripes on the sides with better prismatic foil.

I sanded a slight radius around the parting line between the phaser I and phaser II.

JoAnn's didn't have that pattern at all. Neither did Hobby Lobby, the only place that had it was Michael's, but not in small sheets, only in the roll.

Took me three auto parts stores to find the right shade of blue paint too. What can I say, I'm dedicated.

I didn't order a TMP yet, but that's the one I'm actually much more interested in. I got the TWOK phaser just to tide myself over, and to see how it would look repainted and with the right prismatic tape.

Cool. Another thread talked about possible delays :eek, hopefully that isn't the case.

Again, awesome job!

I've ordered the TMP Phaser from Entertainment Earth and am still waiting for it:angry - I thought TMP looked overall - better!:lol
