DRIVE (2011) Scorpion Satin Jacket

any idea where i can get a similar jacket? i think you got really lucky stumbling upon your jacket at goodwill. i saw someone post a jacket from american apparel, but i browsed around there the other day and didn't see anything.

Here's two jackets that are pretty similar. First is satin like the drive jacket, but has the lack of a proper collar, the second has more of a collar, but isn't satin. Hope this helps.

This baseball jacket has buttons, which is its major short coming, but with some modifications perhaps it could work.

Satin Baseball Jacket (White) Sunstarr Apparel

It has a better variety of sizes than the American Apparel jackets, and I am guessing that since they have a lining that they are ticker as well. They do offer custom embroidery but I am guessing that doesn't include large Scorpions on the back.

I bought one of these. Just so you guys know, the fabric is pretty stiff and thick. The jacket makes a ton of noise, it's like walking around in one of those big blue tarps. Fit is good, lining makes it nice, but it's noisy as Hell. Just a heads up.

I ended up buying the ivory jacket from American Apparel. It's at the local t-shirt shop getting the scorpion screen printed on the back right now. I was able to find an exact match to the ivory satin, so I'm going to just add a collar, brown cuff material to the cuffs and waist, and sew a lining to the torso so I can quilt it. We'll see how it comes out.

be sure to let us know how the screen printing comes out and how much it is. I have a loca T shirt shop and if yours comes out good, ill take mine down there...

I went with the satin baseball jacket from Sunstarr as well. It's not great but with the cuffs and collar dyed brown it'll do the job for Halloween.

For sure I will. I'll probably be posting pics all the way through the process. I'm also having three white t shirts with the scorpion on the back for my friends and I. So for 4 screen printings, including the price of 3 blank shirts, the guy charged me 85 bucks. The most expensive part was him making the screen, after that it was worth paying a little extra for some shirts. His shop actually has a graphic designer that worked with the image I submitted and cleaned it up.

Is anyone going the levis trucker jacket and jeans route for halloween instead of the satin white jacket? Thinking of doing this

Seems like no one would know who you are. You'd just be a guy wearing a denim jacket and jeans. Fashionable but not recognizable.

I am definitely ordering the American Apparel jacket and wearing a brown track jacket under it and letting the cuffs and collar poke out.

1) What do you guys think is the easiest/best way for me to get a large yellow scorpion on back? Take it to a screenprinting tee shop, or trace/stencil it myself with fabric spraypaint? Not experienced at this stuff...

2) In case it helps anyone, this is far and away the best deal I found on gloves online that fit the costume:
Sears: Online department store featuring appliances, tools, fitness equipment and more

3) His shoes - do they need to be boots or would brown dress shoes likely look pretty good?

I'm making my scorpion jacket, but I also already bought the slim trucker jacket (fit is awesome by the way), dark skinny jeans, Italian leather driving gloves, found some near identical sunglasses at Target along with a white Henley Tshirt, and the specialty tea tree oil toothpicks. I figured I would just wear my bown suede wingtips or my tan suede boots, which ever looked better.

I figured if the jacket I'm making doesn't turn out as well I hope, then I'll do the costume sans Scorpio.

Just received this email from Ashley at Rock Steady in regards to my question about that image of the scorpion embroidered over the quilting pattern:

Hi Samuel,

The embroidery will be over the quilting. The ones for the movie had
quilting sewn by hand after the embroidery was put on. We do not have
any finished products other then our sample and the pictures are up
online. The jackets are just like the movies jackets.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong but, the embroidery will be over the quilting on their jacket. The jacket in the film had the quilting pattern hand-sewn AFTER (read: over?) the scorpion was put on.

And yet their jacket will be just like those from the film?

And Rock Steady are out of XS now. You guys said that those from Get Go Retro are the same exact ones right? I need to grab this now to make sure I'm not left out in the cold.

Just got email from Steady regarding scorpion and diamond stitching in top of it.
here is what they wrote:

"Hi Michael,
The scorpion is a large eryembroid, it is all stitching. Our jackets are
exactly the same as the movie."

well, lets hope so, but from the picture they post on their blog, the pic where scorpions are being embroidered.. it just doesn't look the same. They would have to put diamond stitching on top of scorpions but it looks too thick to put anything on top of that. I dont know what to think about that. I guess I just have to wait to see it :)

Haha. I know I wouldn't but it would still be a bummer if they said it'd be just like the movie and it wasn't. It's a small enough detail that I wouldn't really be bothered by it. I hope they keep posting progress pictures, since I was really enjoying seeing those.

You'd really return for something as small as the quilting being done before the embroidery?

If it looked good enough overall I might be able to overlook it, but if it isn't as close to look of the film jacket as possible (IMO), my first impulse would definitely be to return it.

Especially if Magnoli is able to do it the right way (assuming those pictures we saw of the Steady jacket are indicative of the final product).
