DRIVE (2011) Scorpion Satin Jacket

The selvedge slim trucker lacks the pockets as well and is the only model to do so. Along with having the brass rivets..

That's true. She still said they used a vintage jacket. I thought I remember someone saying, I think of film jackets forum, that his jacket is a capital E style tag, making it vintage.

If you did use that Selvedge one, *****, you know how long it would take to wash and break it down to the point that it looks like the movie? I mean without ruining it or turning it ugly.

Trust me, it would take a while. You would have to soak it a # of times and then give it hard, and I mean HARD wear. But, after a couple of months or so, it would look EXACTLY (and I'm almost willing to actually place a monetary bet on it) the same as seen in the film, even down to the fit because the cold water shrinks the denim just a little and then you body literally "molds" the jacket, right down to the wrinkling and creasing on the sleeves, etc...

There's a lot of tailoring going on too. Look at how tight the cuffs are on Gosling! It's like he's wearing a denim shirt more than a jacket.

I don't doubt it'll work. I mean vintage denim jacket probably was a raw denim jacket like 20 years ago. It's just that, for me, I don't know if I could spend $200 on something with the intent to basically ruin it.

I'd rather spend the money on the jeans.

So I want to wear the jacket every day. It would kill me not to have the scorpion but i'd still feel as cool without it. You don't see many people walking around with scorpion embroidered jackets. I'm just trying to keep it real and avoid stares and judgements... I think i might get it from Indy without the scorpion, but i'm wondering about the Steady or getgoretro jackets. Would it be possible for a tailor to remove the scorpion embroidery? i'm not very familiar with this stuff.

But then again... i just don't know altogether!!! :wacko

Neither am I, but I think that'd be possible, especially if they're embroidering the scorpion over the jackets stitching. Then again I don't know what it'd look like when it was taken off. When I talked to the woman from getgoretro, she said someone was buying a jacket so they could remove the scorpion and attach it to one of the screen-used jackets. Maybe it is, but I really don't know.

Yeah, the woman who runs Get Go Retro told me someone is buying one of the jackets from her just to remove the scorpion. She didn't show any signs of worry about the idea, so maybe it'll be easier than we think.

Ok cool thank you. I'll ask her about what she thinks about that and if it'd be possible for a tailor.

If it is, then that way i could get the jacket and THEN make the decision if i want the scorpion on there or not

If it was a patch that would be one thing, but embroidery... I'd have my doubts about how that would look. I'm no tailor either, but I think it would ruin the jacket. No matter what you did there would probably be a scorpion shape left in the fabric.

I'd either save the extra money and get an Indy jacket without the scorpion, or just find a jacket that reminds you of the real thing.

My thoughts exactly

I'm working with a friend on a psd/pspimage file of the scorpion on the jacket. I'm trying to piece it together as well, and decided just making the image and then doing some vector work to add shading like that in the embroidery. I'm going to print it on printer-fabric and go from there in adding it to my jacket.
Would anyone like the image when I'm done? It shouldn't be long for my friend to finish cleaning up the edges. Then I'm doing the shading. I guess if any of you want it, feel free to message/email me and I'll get it to you as soon as possible. :)

Where can I email you at?

Well, after desperately searching for all the pieces to put this outfit together, this is where I'm at in case it can be helpful to anyone. As for me, this fit is a one time thing just for Halloween. The fact that Steady Clothing didn't have the business sense to have this jacket available in time for Halloween is beyond me. So if you're fortunate to know anyone who can sew, at least a Halloween quality costume, I found white quilted satin fabric, black rib and this embroidered scorpion patch all under $50. Here's the link for the patch which is so much better than the actual one: Large Scorpion Tattoo Motor Fighter Iron Patch No.3 : www.BeltPolice.com Belt Holsters, Gun Holster, Pistol Holsters Accessories Bargains in my opinion. After looking for the Handsome Guy mask to match, I've come to find that some Steve Austin or Dr Evil masks come pretty damn close to it, 100's cheaper than the $800 mask. I have the jeans, hammer, henley shirt, and just need to get similar shoes and blood stain the jacket. It's close enough for one night and think with the mask makes it perfect for Halloween. I'm winning the Halloween contest this year! Good luck.

I think the the person is buying the Steady jacket either to add the scorpion to the prop jacket or removing the scorpion to make a replica of the non-scorpion jacket by replacing the back with a plain white diamond satin piece.
Atleast that is what is sounds like. If you removed the embroidery off something like that you'll be left with a bunch of little holes in your fabric.

I haven't seen the movie but there is something I like about the jacket, what was the significance of the scorpion in the movie? Or was it just a prop?

Was the black rib a cost choice? The cuffs and collar of the screen jacket are brown.

Not a cost thing. Don't dig the brown and really think the jacket is hideous anyway. I'm a fan of the film more than anything and wouldn't wear the jacket for any thing other than halloween. For those of you who are more interested in just simply replicating the look for Halloween and not trying to actually become Ryan Gosling, check this: Do your best Ryan Gosling impression with ‘Drive’-inspired style . I must say I'm surprised I haven't read anyone talk about matching hair or skin color yet with all these Stans here. Anyone go out and buy that Mustang yet? It's actually VIN #1ZVBP8X#C510001GETALIFE!

Here are some other great photos for reference, but please note, they actually stained the jacket with cow's blood, so make you do to or else others will know you're not actually Ryan Gosling. http://www.thegoldencloset.com/merc...re_Code=TGC&Product_Code=A0205&Category_Code=

Wow, man. Did you just make fun of people for trying tor replicate something on the REPLICA PROPS FORUM? Why are you even a member here?

I personally dont try to look like Ryan. I just like the jacket.
There will be only around 500 made so it will be pretty rare.
Most likely you wont see anyone wearing it in your town.
I'm also surprised how many people didn't see that movie.

Yeah, cobra, im thoroughly convinced you missed the point of the entire forum. Thanks for the information but if you're going to be like that then I think you should just leave it at that

It was influenced by jackets guys brought home from Korea after the war. Usually satin with something embroidered on the back. But, as far we've been told, the scorpion doesn't have a meaning. I think they just picked something that looked cool.

Anyone that's heard anything different feel free to chime in.
